Weighted Weapon Trait

Okay, just now I got in a debate with a fellow guild member about the weighted trait. I was under the impression it works like the NB Haste ability, and speeds up the time in between attacks, making the effect negligible.

However, they insist that they notice a significant improvement in dps and believe it hastens the attacks themselves, because they seem to do the actual light attacks faster.

Now I'm very curious, because I thought this trait was useless, but now I'm not so sure.

Has anyone tested this that can give me definitive answers?

I made a Weighted Sword once and sometimes I was amazed at how many times I could hit someone with it. It is only supposed to be a 4% increase in attack speed, but it seems like more. I think it goes up with Temper, so if that's true, I was at a 6% increase. Even if it was not increased, it still seemed faster than it should have been, particularly on the back swing hits. One person I was grouped with even remarked on this.

I refuse to have a bunch of flying numbers on the screen (I have most of FTC options turned off) so I don't have any numbers, just what I saw on screen.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I've noticed a non-trivial DPS increase even with a 6% increase on greatswords and mauls. Every little bit helps

It doesn't matter if the trait increases the attack speed by 6% or reduces the time between attacks by 6%, the net result is still a 6% increase in attack speed, which increases your DPS.

no the two would have a very big difference actually. One might give you an extra attack every 5-10 hits, the other would make all those hits faster.

No, it does matter, because when you're cancelling the basic attack into a skill attack, the cooldown before the next attack is based on the attack speed of the skill attack rather than the basic attack. So in animation cancelling, the time between successive basic attacks is irrelevant.

However, if the attack speed increases, then that means that the animation of the basic attack goes off quicker, which does increase DPS.

Well, the trait description says that it "increases weapon attack speed" not "increases weapon attack animation speed". So, not too hard to figure out. Unless, of course, it's another description that they screwed up on, like the no-cooldown potions.
