They may become worthless with the coming modification of the Provisioning System, I'd say "hold on to them and find out" :)

I'm hoping that oats stays as a rare component to a purple recipe after the changes but I'm ready to have a sale any minute if I hear otherwise !! :)

they can sell high, but i have no idea why. while they are indeed stupidly rare, pepper isnt. all three of these make the same stated VR5 food. (different recipies but the same number in the same attributes.)

10000 for a tomato means about 10150 to make 4 VR5 foods. about 2540 gold per unit. the brittle, made with pepper, can be easily bought for 300 per unit.

would you pay over 10k to make something you could buy for 1200? maybe to make one unit, to know you made it, but then...

even if a provisioner paid as much as 1k for oats or tomatos he would have virtually no profit margin, thus this should be the upper range.

imperial motif is rare as well, but it can support the higher value because it cannot be replaced with something that is an exact duplicate. (if you cannot craft imperial you cannot say all motifs without lying- plus the pokemon effect of wanted to collect tehm all.)

If it's a stack of 100 for 10k then the price it's ok.

that would be a very low price. 750 seems right if crafting for sale, 1k on the top end to make food at what it would cost to buy, 500 on the low end for a crafter trying to maximize profits.

More like 75,000 for a stack, or that was what I got paid yesterday for 1 stack of tomatoes because you can make 4 items with 1 tomato with passives. and yes I still have around 60 tomatoes left and no I didn't cheat, apparently my hirelings knows a guy in the shady part of town, RGN loves me 1-2 tomatoes a day.

Yeah, I see people selling the purple recipes that require tomato/oats for outrageous prices, and wonder who the idiots are who buy them?

Maybe tomato/oat drop rates will be fixed at some point.

To most casuals, these food buffs (and/or potion buffs) aren't worth the cost or effort.

But Serious Players buff up. If your group is doing speedruns and is looking for an edge, you do anything you can to help your group get that edge.

Same story for pvp but to a much lesser extent than in end game pve in eso or in pvp in other mmos. You don't need food buffs if you are just zerging.

I have to believe that the lack of oats and tomatoes in the loot tables is simply an oversight by the devs that just hasn't been fixed yet. All the other purple recipe ingredients are not horribly uncommon, including pepper, which, as others have pointed out, can be used to make foods with the exact same stats.

My recommendation would be to sell any oats and tomatoes you get now, while the prices are stupidly high (to any silly people willing to pay that much), and then laugh when they do finally fix the drop tables and oats and tomatoes gain the same availability as pepper.

Not true. Devs have stated that "oats and tomatoes are working as intended" on one of these threads.

Oats and tomatoes are gained from hirelings only. This is WAI. The current drop rates for Purple recipes though are not WAI. This has been acknowledged by the devs and will be fixed.

I've been getting 1000g for a tomato and 500g for oats. I've seen them both go on a low side of 750g and 300g and on the high side of 1500g and 1000g.

And since pepper was mentioned, you can easily get that for any where between 100g and 300g. The biggest reason why all ingredients range so much is due to hireling only ingredients and the rarity of purple recipes. If you luck out on pepper, then good on you.

I scored a 20 stack of Tomatoes for 10,000g (500g ea) on one of my guild stores.
That produced 80 Consummate Honey Puddings that sell for around 350g/each or 28,000g total which makes for a 18,000g profit. Decent money to be made, but I hoard most of my pudding. Can't beat being constantly buffed with +257 each stat.

My worthless hirelings only send grapes and hops.

It does seem the provisioner hireling rate for oats has decreased recently - haven't seen an oat in a couple of weeks whereas I used to get them at least once a week.

Provisioning is arguably the easiest craft to level. Buy level 5, 15, 25 and 35 recipes from a trade guild. Make 7 alts. Go to boats anchored at docks, pillage and plunder. Level each of your alts to 3/3 hireling in 45min (not including ingredient harvesting).

I have tons and tons of oats and tomatoes. If one hireling is having a dry spell, another one is having a hot streak.

I received 8 Oats last night on a couple of 2/3 Hirelings. So they're still out there.

I agree, got a bunch of oats and tomatoes last night. Of course, i now get 30+ hireling mails per night, so that does help a bit with the odds ...

Same here, 8 chars with hireling 3/3 in provisioning and you will get lots of oat and tomato

Today my hireling sent me 4 tomatoes. That must be the highest I have ever got. I got a bunch of tomatoes. The problem I have is pepper and the purple recipe. I must be the unlucky player who seems to never get one.
