Fishing: caught bait vs. found bait?

Any number crunching fishermen who can tell me if there is any percentage advantage to using bait that is caught, like shad or roe, for catching rare fish over using more common bait like worms and crawlers? Another way to look at it-is it better to use up caught bait quickly to save inventory space, or is there an advantage to saving it for a better chance at catching rare fish? I know chub is used for Stros M'kai, but other than that?

In my expereince so far I have not been able to tell if there is a difference in using regular found bait and cuaght bait. They seem to perform the same as far as catching rare and common fish.

There is a list of what bait gets what fish in one of the old threads.

But it will be buried by now, so good luck finding it.

The question is not 'do I use crawlers or worms in foul water?' The question is 'which has the better chance of catching a rare fish in foul water, crawlers or roe?' If roe offers no better chance than crawlers, then I should use it first so it is not wasting an inventory slot. On the other hand, if roe ( and by extension the other bait caught while fishing ) have betters odds of catching rares, they are worth the bag slot.

I have been fishing pretty heavily... until the guts stopped dropping. Run into a good number of people while doing so. So we talk when we fish.

Haven't seen myself, or heard anyone say that they have had better results with caught bait (if it is supposed to have better chances it is probably bugged or a very small bonus). I

I remember someone telling me in Beta it was better, but I have never seen any better results with it. I have fished with stacks of 30-40 roe for example and never even gotten a green.

From my experience, the chance to get a Wet Gunny Sack is a bit higher when you use caught bait (shad, chub, fishing roe, and minnows). I've noticed no difference when it comes to catching rare fish (I've completed fishing in all zones except for the 5 main DC zones).

There are 4 water types, each which prefer 2 types of bait. Primary bait is lootable while secondary bait is found during fishing in another water type. Here's how it goes:

    Foul Water : Critters & Fish Roe(Rivers)
    Sea Water : Worms & Chub(Foul)
    Lake Water : Guts & Minnows(Seas)
    River Water : Insect Parts & Shad(Lakes)

In my experience, the secondary bait type is preferred for getting the trophy fish.

I've noticed no difference between caught bait and found bait. I wish it worked better, but I don't think it does.

There is also a book on Fishing that can be found where most books are found. If you have done the MG, then it will be in your Eidetic Memory.

Here is the post your referring to:
I see a lot of questions for fishing bait. Using the right bait can significantly increase the probability of catching rare fish. Fishing in the group also affects positively.

    Ocean
    Bait: Worms, Chub
    Fish: Dhufish, Longfin, Minnow

    Lake
    Bait: Guts, Minnow
    Fish: Spadetail, Silverside Perch, Shad

    River
    Bait: Insect Parts, Shad
Fish: Salmon, River Betty, Fish Roe

    Foul Water
    Bait: Crawlers, Fish Roe
    Fish: Slaughterfish, Trodh, Chub

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Nothing so far, there is no difference at all, and you know I have done a lot of fishing. :disappointed:
