Costume slot, please do not implement clothing to that system.

First of all, PVP argument is moot. This system can easily be done so it is automatically disable in PVP.

As some of us read somewhere in the past, some people have been hinting that some day they would like to implement clothing via costume slot.

In my opinion, this is terrible idea and needs to be adressed even while clothing is years in the future.

Much better system in many ways, would be to implements cosmetic outfits slots similar to what Lord Of The Rings Online has. In that system, you can have whatever gear equipped to give right stats for your character while meanwhile having the looks of say, iron plate from levels 1 to 14 if you want or combinations of gear of your choosing. Also you could mix clothing with armors and basically have any look you want. If you dont like the shiny look of Veteran armor and want to look as weary adventurer with worn out armor, made from pieces you supposedly looted on your adventures, this would totally be possible. Winwin for RP and those who just want a certain look for their character.

There could also be multiple sets of cosmetic slots to change or make an addon to automatically change based on yoour location.

System like this hasvast possibilities compared to costume slot where you basically can only use what someone else has given to you. In this case art team would propably choose aproriate clothing for you. Too limiting, please do not add clothing as part of costume slot system. Have them exist as craftable, improvable and dye-able system so that each player can truly choose the outlook they want.

EDIT: There could be one small restriction that some folks may deem necessary, i wont like it but i would accept it without complaint. Restriction i would suggest is that cosmetic slots recognize what armor you have in your "Armor slots". Then, when you place pieces of armor to your cosmetic slots, you could only add a piece of armor which exists in armor slot. For example if you have light armor in head, you can only place light armor in cosmetic slot. If rest of slots are heavy, then rest can only be heavy.

Light to light
Medium to medium
heavy to heavy

Why i would not like this? Reason is, it limits my roleplaying possibilities while i am adventuring, How? Well, if my hero or heroine is suchm that the equipment is just some clothing with simple blade, a poor adventurer doing some work around Tamriel and hunting tresures for fortune. I could not do this if i wear medium or heavy armor. Most likely my equipment would be on character like this as follows

-Heavy helm
-Clothing houlders (Scarf or such)
-Heavy chest
-Clothing pants
-Medium boots
-No shown gloers
-worn out basic sword.

You can see where that goes wrong if i am a Nightblade in full medium or Sorcerer in full light. Even full heavy warrior wont work. I want my character look as what he or she is. I dont play as myself, i play as character and that is why those things matter so much to me.

Here is a small video of LOTRO system for those who have not used it.

DCUO had great system also, but in ESO the realism level is so different that it just won't fit. IMO one should use disguise if armor isn't appealing, but passives are.

This is something they should add: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/121362/master-crafter-new-perk-for-crafting/p1
Light stays light and heavy stays heavy, but we could get a lot more variations :)

EDIT: OP idea is good (and loved similar thing in DCUO), but I have hard time to see it fit in the world of ESO

LOL! talk about walk down memory lane, hehe. That is a really old character panel ;)

I the nice thing about the outfit system in LotrO was that you could have a warbrobe as part of the vault system, so any char on your account could use the outfit as long as it was stored in the wardrobe.

I like both ideas. I certainly would prefer to be able to customize each slot rather than use only a costume slot. If they do go with the costume slot, then at least allow us to craft a costume item by selecting which pieces of equipment should be part of it, including special craftables such as commoner/farmer/civilian/noble clothes.

I prefer costumes, or could use a standard npc look like they do in defiance pvp.

From the player perspective we can look all spiffy but on screen viewing another person, its a just a standard uniform, of which is mowing me down most of the time....

Outside PVP, sure, dress up opens up all kinds of ideas, fan contests, GM contests, RP, etc.. B)

I recognize certain players who I fight a lot by their dye scheme and running into them ;) just before I see their name when targeting them. Making everyone look like clones would be fairly boring and leave no sense of identity, but at the same time allowing people to simply hide all of their armor with an individual slot-based cosmetic system would be quite bad. I think the current system works wonderfully for pvp minus having the disguises still usable there, and should be left alone other than disabling disguises in Cyrodiil/Imperial City.

PVE-land I don't mind if people can change their look around so long as it's the same armor type as what they're wearing, have at it IMO. Personally I'd actually support such a system even :)

-First-Wave Closed Beta Tester of the Psijic Order, aka the 0.016 percent.
Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!

-Playing since July 2013, back when we had a killspam channel in Cyrodiil and the lands of Tamriel were roamed by dinosaurs.

I think that very good idea which i also will edit to my description is that there are small restrictions. I mean i dont like restrictions but i understand the need in some cases.

Like if you have heavy armor, you only can use heavy armor on costume slots where heavy is equipped. If you have head from cloth and rest from mediem, the cosmetic slot for head will allow only cloth and rest of slots only mediem. This would prevent players looking like they are in heavy armor while using light armor and so forth.

But me? I would not implement that restriction in PVE as it is the looks that matter most to me. I do try to use good stats too but in this game, looks hardly give much info of your character. Basic armor only gives armor value, traits can be used in any armor as well as enchants. You can craft any set in any class of armor you want or you can even mix armor classes to get build you want.

I come from LotRO and love the cosmetic sets but it has one major drawback:
It clutters up your storage really fast as you will keep a lot of single equipment parts.
I'd rather see a "do it yourself disguise" interface that would look like a combination of coloring and equipment interface. You could make a set of armor/clothing pieces and make them into a "disguise-package". Allowing you to sell the seperate armor parts if you feel like it.
This would only take one slot in your bag (which should be changed anyway).
An important additional feature would be that you could copy a piece of eqipment to other disguise sets.
PvP should be no exception, I can't see a valid reason to that (and I hated it in LotRO) noone can tell me that he knows the specs of an armor just looking at it.

Theatre comes to mind, like if we ever get to build houses, cities etc, a special type of building, a theatre could add to the moral of your city! With this theatre a certain costumes open up, achievement things. Brain storming here. Coffee kicking my brain......
