Cyrodil is ok, but I'd say most people want something that isn't:

1. an AOE fest
2. requires long travel times
3. doesn't focus on class vs. class
4. Is too time consuming

Let's face it, ZOS needs to include a 5 vs. 5 or 10 vs. 10 type pvp. I just don't feel like riding for 15 minutes to participate in a 5 minute fight.

Feel free to flame, but you know the game needs this.

If they ever did a 5v5 I hope its nothing like other MMOs.

These are the rules I would want in place:

1: Limited death. None of the unlimited respawning crap we saw in the quakecon arena. If respawns are allowed then limit it to 10 for the entire team. IE: One person can respawn 5 times but that leaves only 5 for the rest of the team.

2: Interesting mechanics besides just capture the flag in a barren landscape. Something like the battle is fought in a town with houses (without doors) and other cool landscape options.

3: This ties into number 2. Do not have the same gimmicks as most arena types where its all about capture the flag. IMO it should be a last team standing type of fight. (Note if respawns are allowed a player has 15seconds to take a respawn of they are locked out the rest of the battle). Needs to have a feature to prevent someone stealthing and just hiding until the other team gives up.

4: Last team standing wins a treasure chest in the center of the map.

The pvp in ESO is such that one can typically excel at a certain aspect of the game. Mine for example is a committed support class, and a jack of all trades. This means I'm especially good at open field group fights where I can duck and dive through friendlies and enemies alike responding as need be. As I envisioned the role of this character, I actively search for this type of scenario. By implementing a new type of PVP people would likely build their characters to only excel at 5v5 fights, and probably would break that system.

I think it's on we the community to arrange this sort of thing. The guild Legend is in the first stages of this, and it doesn't have to stop at 1v1s. Why don't two even teams pick a resource node neither owns and see who can cap it first. Or pick a nifty little town which doesn't have guards and play king of the hill. If guilds on multiple factions can arrange this it could be a very cool thing.

What's so hard about arranging 5 vs 5 fights yourself? You don't need ZOS for that at all!

Besides it need to be kept in spirit as well, it has to be 5 v 5 v 5 since there is 3 factions.

Am also in for for anything 'arena alike' if ou die once you will be dead throughout the rest of the fight... rage quitting if died.. you would be on a 30minute cooldown before being able to queu again, mostly due to this.. am tired of carebear alike PvP Arena style as most others MMOs present with a respawn option.

I find small fights quite often in Cyrodiil actually. Cutting off reinforcements to a zerg fest is a good way. I just put up a video you can watch if you want that shows small PvP fights that I found.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jechGImtFio

The biggest problem I have with them setting up official 5v5, 10v10, etc fights is that it will probably take away a LOT of people from Cyrodiil itself and make normal PvP boring.
If you like small group PvP (2-4 players) and solo PvP check out my video ;)https://youtube.com/watch?v=jechGImtFio

SPOILER: The first 40 seconds of the video contains a scene from the final Molag Bal boss fight!

How is an arena less class/setup focused than Cyrodiil? :S

I've never liked arenas - or WoW styled BGs for that matter.
Open world is where it's at for me but with that said, yhey could and should take steps to improve the downtime between fights. Forward Camps is a decent idea but needs a better implementation.

I agree, far too much downtime in cryodiil pvp. Sure I can find small pvp after searching for 10 mins with a small band of 3 or 4 people, and when we do find people it'd either 1 guy on his horse or a whole zerg of impulse heroes. And there is only a limited area a 3 man group can go, soon as you get near a keep ( Which is where all the bad guys are) The guards see you and start nailing you for 800. Cyrodiil would be faaar more enjoyable if there were 0 npcs.

What I want most out of small-scale PvP is a lot less "floatiness".

For me, PvE has a certain IMPACT to it, as well as a better flow. I'm pretty sure it has to do with collision and lag, but in Cyrodiil I don't really FEEL what I'm doing.

Not to mention that things happen in an extremely choppy fashion, so you don't really feel the give-and-take of the fight. It feels more like you're just queuing up abilities and hoping for the best, as opposed to responding to the screen.

Another reason I say this is because when I'm in town in the PvE areas, things move very smoothly. However, you get the occasional player that seems to be "out of the flow" of things. It's usually in stealth, but you'll see them kind of "skipping" from one place to the next.

I'm really thinking instanced PvP with no more than 8-10 players in a small area would bring the tactical feel you have in PvE to the PvP area, as well.

Just some random thoughts. Feel free to tear them apart, show me the error of my ways, etc. :)

The only condition for this to be implemented should be through the Imperial City as a reward for serving your faction.
Something like a training camp of sorts for fighting members of your own faction.

If you want to fight in arenas, you have to make your faction win, then capture the proper district.
In other words, be part of the world.

Imagine having to defend the arena alongside your opponents and the public.
Any instanced implementation would be a huge mistake.

    1. Can't argue with that...
    2. You'd rather wait for queue + loading screen then? Besides, what travel times, with tents and all..?
    3. How is 5v5 less class vs. class than a zerg? If anything, your class and build matters A LOT more when it's not just mindless zerging with instant respawn and no penalties to dying.
    4. No one is forcing you to play more than you want. I agree though that finding decent smallman action can be hard at times. I blame tents for this.

PvP needs to stay non-instanced. They have to make changes for it to truly work though. As it is right now, each keep is like a battleground. You port there, stay until one side wins and port to the next keep.
I hope they can come up with a decent compromise for tents.

This may be an old thread, but I still support the idea of game supported 5v5 arenas.

Or even just 4v4 or 3v3.

Also - regarding setting them up privately - I dont want to know the exact composition or setup of my opponent every time I do a match. This is why double blind queuing is awesome. I dont do it for fightclubbing, that is lame.

Randomized 5v5 or team 5v5 and youve hit my sweet spot. Even numbers pvp, yes please.

    It's not promoting.
It's just a cheap way of showing the combat in a controled setting so that even someone that knows nothing of the game can handle the sensory input.

Granted, but it would be...shortsighted of them (and hardly cheap, I might add) to design and test a new gameplay mode just to use at conventions that they had no intention of using in the full game, especially when a lot of people have been asking for this feature. The inevitable rage in a couple of months if they don't release it is hardly worth the convenience it facilitated.

That was their official stand point though. They just put it together hastily to show off without having to connect to real servers.

They don't need to test it or design it, it's not meant to be played for a long time so the imbalances don't show that much. I doubt they had to put any effort in this really. It's just a team deathmatch, that's it.

I understand that people are asking for this kind of gameplay now, but the game was advertised as not having arenas and not having any planned.
It wouldn't make sense for me to subscribe to WoW and ask for open world full loot pvp.

AvA was designed as the sole PvP aspect of the game, and it isn't living up to its promises just yet, it should get priority.
Arenas would be destructive for the open field world, especially instanced ones.
But I understand the appeal, and I believe they can be implemented as a reward for a well fought war. Just like the imperialcity PvE appeal.
