Guts for fishing

So I recently started fishing to unlock more dyes from achievements, and I looked into the proper bait for the proper areas; which I might add makes a HUGE difference in my opinion using the proper bait, but anyway I've noticed I'm not getting any guts from lvl1 animals.

I remember I used to find them like crazy, but never bothered to use them. Now with a better incentive now to go fishing I can't find anything dropping it. I've tried squirrels, foxes, rabbits, rats, and anything else I run across, but nothing seems to drop them.

Have they been removed, or has the drop rate been lowered, or maybe some unnoticed bug keeps them from dropping?

Guts still drop for "low" level characters (level 3 and below).

It's not working as intended. Since patch..characters over level 5 (I think) are not getting guts. I created an alt and ran over to noob island and farmed them successfully there.

Yes, this is a bug introduced by 1.3 - guts and rawhide/hide/etc no longer drop from creatures 5 or more levels lower than your character. So if you've got a low level alt you'll still be able to get guts. If not, you can't, so you won't be able to do the fishing you want to do. I haven't heard any word on when a fix will be coming for this.

Take note, that if you create an alt to hunt guts; that char will only be able to do so untill you hit lvl 4... so be sure to skip intro after creation, or you risk loosing the ability to have guts drop pretty soon...

1.3.3 released on Aug 4. Yet they still haven't figured out how to make guts drop again? I don't buy it. It seems unlikely this would require a client-side update, to fix. Even if so, how non-trivial can it be to make this work again?

Other than the very limited amount of minnows that can be caught, fishing oceans, this all but eliminates the bait required to effectively catch rare fish from Lakes.

If a "completionist" type person is attempting to earn fishing achievements, this would certainly slow their progress. Food for though.

You can get guts harvesting some plants for making cloth. (cotton, void blossom, etc). Or was it alchemy plants? argh, I can't remember, but I was out harvesting and I found guts on a plant of some sort!

I've only ever seen worms and crawlers from plants. Pretty sure that's all you'll ever see from plants.

It better be a bug because I have yet to see a lvl 30-40 rabbit I can gut. I've only been really getting insect parts and rarely a worm here and there when picking things for alchemy.

Be sure to write a bug report. The more people report this, the higher the chances of them reacting to it.

Had the same absence of guts for a while now. I tried everything I remembered before the bug - hunt low level wild live, equal level, even higher level, different kinds of animals but nothing. I'll try out your workaround with the low level alt now. Try to only hit the level one deers and whatever so you avoid gaining levels.

Yeah the cloth making plants also have guts drop with them sometimes.

Just a workaround for now:

Make a low level alt (don't level it to lvl 4 - so skip the wailing prison) and farm critters.

For AD specifically:
-make lvl 3 (skip to start right away)
-travel to someone in Haven, Grahtwood.
-go to Sacred Grotto north of Haven.
-farm the frogs there.

*To help gauge how much you need, I've probably used up to 7500 Guts before I finished Master Fisher and Craglorn Angler achievement - of course this is dependent on how lucky you are or if RNG is just giving you bad luck - I've had the latter on many lake fish.

It is a bug and is acknowledged as one in their thread about 1.3.x.

Guts do not, and never have, dropped from plants... Only crawlers & worms, thankfully insects are not considered levelled creatures so that bait is still easy to get.

Exactly this, the bolded statement. It doesn't even make sense to say that guts drop off plants. Plants don't have guts to drop. Worms and crawlers make sense, because they would be on the plant trying to eat it. The only time you might see guts on a plant (real world) is if something recently died on it and more than likely the guts would be gone because whatever killed it ate it.

That said, I do hope they fix this soon. I miss fishing.
