Clothing, how you think it should be considered?

Firstly. This is no plea to devs to immediately start making clothing options for us. They know better than us when is the right time to add things like that.. Hopefully :)

By clothing, i mean those normal civilian clothes from commoner rags to extravagant noble clothes.

Ny wish on how clothing should be considered, is that it is light armor and can be used to replace light armor to get bonuses. Only difference would be that clothing has no armor value whatsoever.

It should also be possible to dye them.

I think they should not be costumes for costume slots. They should be craftable from jute to extravagant which need better materials.. Or perphaps you could get better quality clothing by improving it, much like armor. Also with clothing, you should be able to hide

-Gloves
-Boots
-shoulders

In fact these should be options to all armors.

Please discuss in good spirit. Remember that this is not to ask them do this soon. This is in my part, a possible idea combinations how they should be implemented when they do.

Yes, they are not as important as bug fixes, you not need to point this out :pensive:
They are important however, for players who do roleplay and care much about visuals and immersion.

never should things like this be for real cash, agrred? Even while they are cosmetics, cosmetics are as important to some players as getting best gear is to others.

Please discuss.

Separate slot, optional, Obtainable in game not cash shop.

Ask again in a couple of years time :)!

My preference then would be for appearance slots that would take either cosmetic clothes or obsolete gear whose appearance you want to maintain. They would be cosmetic only and not carry active stats, those would derive from your active gear.

Crafting should be one option for getting them, but not the only option. Some, for example, may be quest rewards during special events etc. They should be capable of being dyed.

I love the idea of craftable clothing. I think being able to craft it should be accessible from a pull down menu at the clothing crafting station (similar to how you access different guild stores when at the bank - just a selection between light/medium armor crafting or clothing crafting).

It should come with a full set of traits for it. It should use the same resources as clothing and armor.

But there needs to be some other, in-game, type use for them.

I like what SWG did back in the day with the entertainer skill line. Here's how I see it in ESO.

A person has a fancy set of clothes on with traits that give health/stamina/magicka buffs. Depending on the combination of clothes and traits in the outfit, you can buff just health up, or buff all 3, or buff other things like a protection field. I would like to see buffs that last up to 2 hours like the best foods do.

A person wearing the set clothing goes to a tavern (make a modifier where you can only receive the buff in a tavern). The person has some /perform emote with a <player> target. A player at the same time must /listen or /watch <performer>. That's how the buff gets applied to that player. Performers can charge based on the quality and longevity of the buff.

It should stack in addition to food/drink buffs.

This would create a huge role playing opportunity in game. It would spurn guild activities, be useful in PvE as well as PvP. It would add to the player trade economy.

    It would be super fun.

I'd love clothing to have some optional areas for pure fluff. Cloaks, capes, robes, etc. Not the costume slot, but actual slots for specific items, If it worked with the tabard and dye system, even better.

The Devs have responded that they would like to have costume based clothing (in that it uses the Costume slot and not your armor slots) for the game.

In the mean time, with the dye system, there are a few light armor combos that don't look all that much like armor, especially at lower levels. So you could craft some L6 or similar gear to wear around town.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I think clothing in costume slot is extremely limiting and bad idea. Reason to this is, that then there would be only full sets of clothing available. You could not create your own combinations or color them how you like. Not a good idea at all and doomed to be boring, at least for me.

The right aproach would be the way LOTRO has done it. Multiple sets of cosmetic armor available which you can change on the fly.

Main slots have the gear which gives you stats and others for pure cosmetic clothing.

We need to be able to vreate our own combinations, costume slot is great for quests to dishuise yourself but extremely limiting as cosmetic option for clothing.

Clothing should really be craftable. Separate pants, dresses, shirts and jackets with shirt. gloves, hats, scarf.. All sorts of things you can FREELY COMBINE and COLOR HOW YOU WANT.

It kind of already is, I see quite a few characters running around in their undies.

One time I remember I was picking up some gear from a bank that my Alt had made. So, in the bank, I stripped off my gear, then deposited it and went to get the new gear. In that time, about 4 players spammed me with spells. Now, I pick up my new gear, change into that, then deposit the old gear. I got the message...

They still don't really look like civilian clothes, though, particularly with their prominent tassets.

I think the same thing I've thought in pretty much every MMORPG:

    1. There should be at least 1 additional set of equipment slots, preferably more.
    2. Additional sets of slots would have no impact on stats.
    3. There would be checkboxes to select when each sets appearance (and only appearance) would be used. i.e. "In Town", "In Dungeons", "In PvP Arenas", "Outside". etc. (and at least one set of extra slots per checkbox, so if you want each situation to have it's own outfit appearance, fine.)

So your ranger could have some sort of "fancy" dress for when in town, a set of green/brown clothing for when outside, maybe a black/brown ensemble when in a dungeon, and finally some armor with his factions colors and guild tabard on for when in PvP areas.

Indeed. LOTRO has come closest to best for me thus far. It has multiple sets for appearance, can hide parts of appearance gear. Only thing it does not have is the feature to change them according to where you are. WOW had nice addon called outfitter for this and im quite sure similar addon would be possible in ESO as well.
