Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

Loyalty system and Wraith vanity pet, would you rather take a lore friendly cat or dog?

You never heard an orc calling 'Here Scuttlebuttywutty'? My Orc doesn't go anywhere without her Scuttlebutt, or sometimes Buster the Crab but we end up walking sideways everywhere. She's an Orc from a Skyrim stronghold so an ice wraith will be nice. Probably call her Cream.

I mean taming a wraith? Thats just silly, they are creatures that are there to kill you. Same would go for many other possible pet types i can think of but sadly people want something #cool" and even more sad is that Devs give them these "cool" items that disregard lore and reason. Soon it will be like WOW with stupid mini dragons and hellhounds as pets.

What next? Some stupid mount that never should have been a mount in the first place.. Or over large shoulders maybe, thats cool too right?

I have to respectfully disagree. I play this game to take a break from real life if I wanted that I could get in real life I would go out and buy them in real life. this is a fantasy game after all and that implies that taming a wraith may be possible within the confines of the Elderscrolls universe.

I won't even vote. You see, whatever pet they chose as a reward - there would always be someone who would prefer another one. Sure, I'd rather have a cat. Or a dog. Or a dragon. Maybe we'll get some of those later since they said they will expand this program.

Just want to say, that I'm thankful for whatever they give us. It's not that they promised anything like that. It's a gift. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

    Well said.

Not! Im not looking gify horse to the mouth, im just sad that something that cant really be pet.

I wish it be that simple but sadly it is not. Every fantasy universe there is has its own set of "Rules" the lore and facts that have happened and what can and can not happen. Certain creatures are agressive and can only be interacted certain way.

Where is my banekin pet option? That's what I've wanted since the first time I saw one. Don't tell me that's not "lore-friendly" because as long as the devs can give a reasonable explanation pretty much anything can be a pet. It could be as simple as them saying a calm or obey spell has been cast on the wraith of that the banekin follows you because you have some kind of item that binds its will to you, etc.

Wolves are cautious rather than agressive animals. They are thinked as agressive but this is not true. They hunt for food, attack only when threatened and usually avoid contact with humans. They just have bad reputation because of fear and ignorance.

If we are going to have pets (and I am positive mine will just stay in the mail to save bankspace) they need to be a bit special like the Ice Wraith.

Still, where is the 'Other' option ? Personally I'd have liked a title, no wasted bankspace there !
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

At this stage, I am not that concerned about lore. The world is big, who can day nobody can domestic some wild creatures and bring them to different places?

I agree. And who is to say it's not lore friendly? They can write in some reasoning if they'd like to. You can't sit there and say "lore" based on previous games only. There is also a lot of unwritten history which is unfolding in ESO.

Stop with this silliness. They are releasing a dog down the line they said!

Wraiths are lore friendly. Dog's aren't necessarily (IIRC there's a Khajit in Kenarithi's roost showing off the wonderfully strange creature from far off daggerfall or something (a dog))

If they really want to appease as many people as possible, they should give out leashes as a loyalty reward. These leashes can only be used once, but you can use them on any (select) creature in the wild to tame them.

Here are a couple of things to consider regarding Wraiths as pets.

1.) you say there are no wraith pets hundreds of years in the future but can you really be so certain? I remember fighting my way through ice caves in northers Skyrim filled with wraiths and necromancers. The wraiths weren't attacking the necromancers and other bad guys, instead they only attacked me. That being said how do we know these wraiths weren't domesticated to be some kind of guards for their lairs?

2.) If they aren't pets in Skyrim how do we know the secret to domesticating wasn't lost somehow. The person or people who domesticated them for us in this era may have died off or been killed by bandits taking their secrets to the grave.

3.)The last thing to consider and certainly the most important is this. The Elder =scrolls universe was created by Bethesda, they are the true gods of that world and of they something happened, well.... it happened or will happen if it strikes their fancy. If we agree or disagree with their decisions regarding the in game world it doesn't matter. Its not different than reading a book that disappoints you to the point you would like to change it, in the end the entire story front to back was the authors creation and the readers are only along for the ride.

Cats or dogs are strange pets for some races, ie Dunmer.
Ice Wraiths are perhaps strange for every race, but things like Scuttlers are not lore breaking at all.

Actually, I really dislike the tendency to call the more weird stuff "lore breaking".
People using this term for weird stuff probably never read the Sermons of Vivec...
