Infinite Vertical Progression - the future of ESO?

So, now we have 2 more veteran ranks, which yields more powerful gear. And with the champion system, there will be "seasoned" gear that is better and better with each release. Does anyone see a problem with this? Players will just keep getting higher and higher stats the longer ESO survives. 5 years from now, what kind of crazy stats will players have? Zenimax claims they are in this for the long run, but there seems to be a serious flaw here.

Veteran/Champion progression needs to be shifted more towards the cosmetic side. Stats on gear should be more of a horizontal progression once players reach level 50. It is more healthy in the long run for the game.

I got enough horizontal progression with GW2. I am going to roll with this vertical progression and try to enjoy it. I definitely don't want ESO to have the end game consist 95% of cosmetics.

Where is the source of this VR14 update? I can't find proof this is actually happening?

I agree with @timidobserver, if you want horizontal progression, go play Guild Wars 2, I quite enjoy games that keep things interesting, and entertaining.

I'm not saying horizontal progression is bad, and Guild Wars 1 did it pretty well. But if we're just going to get to the point where the game is all about just getting "one set" of end game gear, what's the point? There's no sense in actually playing any longer once you've achieved that. This is what Guild Wars 2 did so terribly wrong. End game gear did pretty much the same thing each, and every new content update. Great, they tried something new, and in my opinion, didn't do too well, and weren't too successful with it. I'd rather go back to how things used to be, and "should" be, with consistently "having" to go back, and play the game.

I've a feeling if a game like World of Warcraft (as much as I hate the game) went Horizontal, they'd start losing subs left, right, and center. It's in my opinion due to the very fact people go back every new expansion to get the new gear, do the new content, and hit the max level all over again, granted, the new content from what I've read (never actually played) is quickly beaten.

Point is, Horizontal shouldn't be the way to go in any Mmorpg, unless they "perfect" it, like Guild Wars 1 did. Then, and ONLY then, will I agree to staying Horizontal. I need some sense of "bettering" my character. Sure, there's talk, and plans for a champion system to be set in place, but who knows how that will turn out? We've only seen a glimpse of what it "might" turn out to be, and apparently rumors of them scrapping the entire idea all together. It's not "set in stone" yet. If I have to stay around doing absolutely nothing but making alts, I might as well take my money elsewhere.

PvP for some players in this game is fine, in my opinion though, it's not where ESO shines, and never will be, it's nothing but a Zergfest, and with all the new changes in place, it takes no strategy whatsoever to overcome your opponents, it just takes numbers. Numbers which change whenever one team is dominating in a campaign.

    My thoughts on this anyways.

I say if you want Vertical Progression go play WoW. Whats the point to reaching the finish line just to have it taken away from you in 2 months? Whats the point in constantly running on a treadmill chasing the carrot? Why not be allowed to enjoy the carrot once you have it?

Vertical Grinding isn't fun, its boring.

PVP isn't perfect but the best way to ruin it? Vertical Leveling, so that only Professional MMO Athletes are able to enjoy it, while everyone with a schedule, or a job, or school/college is just stuck in "B Level" forever.

    Within; Without.

Crazy stats, like you said. But I don't see the game living these 5 years if they stop adding stuff for players to go after, as you suggest...

I mean, would you really pay a monthly fee to keep playing a game where you won't even get stronger by doing it?

Not saying that you're wrong if you would, I'm into more 'cosmetic stuff' myself. I'm just pretty sure that the majority of the players wouldn't.

Gear grind isn't for me. What I love about Elder Scrolls is exploring new lands and going on memorable quests. I also enjoy mixing up my look every now and then - but I don't want to eventually become so powerful that I am able to 1 hit kill bosses in low level dungeons for example. That just seems wrong and destroys replay-ability.

And I did play GW2 for a year. Got so sick of the bad content updates and the zerg-fest PvE events. I did enjoy the variety of activities there was to do in GW2 though, and being down-scaled to other zones to make revisiting them still challenging. ESO needs to learn from that.
