So what if you could pick three skill lines?

So im just thinking here, if there would be a possible way to balance out a game like this were you equipped skill lines to level, without class requirements.

It would function much like weapons and armors currently function. You equip the skill line as it would be more like a weapon or armor, and then as you level it levels, unlocking the skills/passives. Just add three slots for three skill lines.

My question would be more aimed to the min/maxers would would no doubt turn this game by force into a "these three or gtfo" how bad this would ruin whatever shred of balance the game currently has.

Also I wonder if this might make the addition of new skill lines a bit easier...since you wouldn't have to create a complete class worth, you could just add say an illusionist or conjurer line.

    Given how builds in this game work and the history of builds in TES games in general, it makes sense in theory.

    But then people will want to be able to respec that. There have already been requests to be able to change races and classes.

    And then, given the low priority that build balance apparently has with the people that make the decisions in this game, you are going to wind up with one optimal build that will be expected.

    It's not like we don't already now, really, except it's variations of two builds with two classes. If we weren't locked into classes it would be even worse.

    The class system plus guild lines are supposed to accomplish what you are looking for but with a modicum of class limitation. Problem is the classes and builds aren't balanced and the builds especially aren't...And there are only 3 guild lines. When thieves, assassins and spellcrafting get here I'm sure it will be rounded out a lot better.

    The game not being so linear and more replayable would help a lot, too but I'm sure it will be a while before that changes.
