I go back to live about once a year in the fall around expansion time just to see the new stuff. Lots of changes but it's still a great game. You simply won't find another game with the depth of building a character like that One, even though they have made the game a lot easier over the years.
If you are really interested in old school EQ, I highly recommend the classic emu Project 1999. It's been a work in progress for almost 5 years and they've done an amazing job with it. Velious is coming soon.
Used to love EQ... then Planes of Power killed off all the major cities. From bustling hubs to barren ruins in one x-pac. Besides, my group is long gone to the four winds so no more grinding LDoN.
