This is a VR12 Ancient Elf legendary 2H sword. I even checked ESOfashion.com to make sure I liked the style and weapon color before I invested almost 30k worth of tempers to craft it. The picture on ESOfashion showed this weapon as silver with a golden hilt. I'm sure that is the correct color until you upgrade it to legendary.... then it changed to this...... god awful green lantern weapon :(

I like the way it looks, especially with the way you've styled your character!
Your title said there was a reason why weapons should be dyeable....

Perhaps; instead, they should add a "preview" button we can use for crafting, and for checking out how items will look on our character before we purchase them.

I would much prefer that over the ability to remove signature and awesome looks from signature and awesome weapons, instead forcing all weapons to look the same.

If I've worked hard to get a badass weapon, I want people to know it.

A preview button would be a step in the right direction. The issue is that I would have never upgraded this sword if I knew it was going to be green. And that is a ton of coin we're talking about gambling with.

EDIT: I changed the color theme of my armor to match and it looks much better now.

It's just a bummer that I feel compelled to do so since I'm not a big fan of green :(

This really needs to happen in Update 4.

The green actually looks pretty good on that sword. But if it were some other color like purple, I wouldn't like it. That's why without the dyes, upgrading your weapon runs the risk of making it look crappy.

Sound reasoning, but a bad example. Here's a better one: How about Daedric weapons being... GRAY? Like seriously?

Make weapon dyes a thing, do not make pink an option, Keep weapon "dyes" (keep semantics to yourself please) strictly to metallic hues and properties. win-win for everyone.

It is only a bad example if you like green. Which I do not. Nor did I have any reason to believe that after I used 30k worth of mats that I would be stuck with a green sword.

Many people seem to like the green color and that is fine. But to me it just feels like playing the lottery with your coin. If it were dropped from a boss, that would be fine. But I just feel like there shouldn't be any surprises like this when you are crafting gear. Especially when you are crafting the best gear in the game.

Just an FYI - in other TES games some of the strongest weapons are made out of volcanic glass, which is where the "green glass" weapons and armor are derived from. That's what your sword is.

Completely understandable if you don't like green, but thought you might look at it differently if you knew.

I must admit that I have very little experience with the ES franchise prior to ESO. I've always liked the art and lore, just never really got into single player RPGs due to whatever MMO I was involved with at the time.

Thanks for the explanation, and I can certainly appreciate the lore, art, and history behind the weapon's appearance. But it really doesn't change the issue at hand. These weapons are incredibly expensive to make. To me it seems reasonable to be able to either preview or change the appearance of these items before you invest all the materials you have been saving only to discover afterwards that the item changed into a bold, specific color you weren't expecting.

That first picture of you is completely badass. The contrast from a black and gold robe to a deep emerald blade is fantastic.

It actually makes your character iconic in the sense that he doesn't completely blend into the crowd, but instead, has something unique that distinguishes his identity.

*Midnight, in a local tavern a fire roars in the background as two gentlemen take their seats, a nervous silence between them.*

"Hey, have you heard rumors of the recent killings?"

"Yeah, they say the killer hunts in the dead of night; that you can never get a good look at him."

*A few feet away an old man is seen seated next to the hearth; his eyes transfixed on the flames. Turning his body, the old nord stared at the two gentlemen; eyes wide as a full moon. In a slow, hushed whisper the man spoke.*

"Be wary traveler for what roams this fade, is absolute judgement from the evergreen blade."

I took a gamble and converted it to Imperial. Can't supply a screenshot at the moment, but for my taste it turned out nice. Jet black. I was horrified that it would turn purple.

It would be nice if zos provided a web page that has images of what all the crafted armor/weapons look like once converted to all 4 different temper upgrades. At least we would have some kind of reference before we jumped blindly into the void so to speak.

In single player TES games you can easily use less-than-optimal gear if you think it looks nicer and "get away with it" as far as the power of your character is concerned. I really liked the way Steel Plate looked in Skyrim and was luckily able to cap armor with it. In an MMO, this is not possible, so we should be allowed to dye weapons and shields.

I'd really prefer a dye change for weapons. Its odd that my greatsword is made out of ebony but it is bright gold.
