Seras Loren’s Fashion House: Advice to the unsuspecting fashion victim

Hello fellow Vestiges! When the Prophet first addressed you, did you think you were special, one of a kind? Set to save Tamriel with your unique skills only to find a world full of Vestiges? Are you now trying to carve out an identity with mismatched dyes and armour combinations?

Allow me to offer some tips to keep you looking fabulous while carving a path through your enemies.

Many of you may have heard the old saying “Blue and green should never be seen unless upon a fairy queen”. That still stands and for good reason, you look like a cool mint candy pop. Not a heroic look at all but even fewer seem to be familiar with the “Purple and Red, I’d rather be dead!”. Ok, so I just made that one up, but please stop this isn’t Mardi Gras.

Now I know you might want to be all intense and moody looking in your plumb and scarlet robes, but so does every other angsty tween out their. The point is to stand out and look fabulous yes? Kill them with style!

Your main colour should pop so if going for a neutral main, use intense colours for highlights and vice versa. A saturated main should be accompanied by muted highlights unless of course you are being ironic or simply like to look like someone puked a rainbow over you.

Now for armour types. Many of you are strutting about in a mix of light, medium and heavy armour. The reasons for this we need not discuss but in order to not look like a Lego man, choosing what piece to wear on which part of the body is important.

Legs: You can wear just about anything here as other pieces will pretty much hide it. Some light styles can look like pyjama pants when coupled with a heavy chest piece so be mindful of racial stylings.

Head: Medium head pieces are just ugly. Hide them if possible or choose either light or heavy if you wish to have it visible. Pair either light or heavy head with a heavy chest but not a heavy head with a light chest..

Arms and shoulders: should always match your chest piece if wearing heavy amour. Light and Medium can be mixed here to reasonable effect.

Belts: Express yourself here, as long as colours are complementary to the outfit, weight matters little.

When dealing with Daedric gear. Base should either be any of the Blacks, period. From Obsidian and Vampiric black, to Coldharbour Ash and Legate Black.

Trims can range from Daedric or whatever other red you may have available for a traditional Daedric/Dagonite scheme; to blue for a more Coldharbour theme if that strikes your fancy. Ash black with Obsidian black or any of the grays for your trims can also achieve a Coldharbour look based on some of the Dremora I've encountered. But the base and central color being Dark is essential for an honest Daedric look.

    Dear @UlanX‌

I am attending a formal gala in a few days. I have several outfits to choose from but simply can not decide.

Should I go with the Ancient Elf Medium ensemble in blacks with shiny baby blue highlights, or do you think it would be more appropriate to go in the light pantsuit affair in Daedric in hues of brown and gold?

I don't know if it matters but it is for a charity, to raise money for the orphans of people I have murdered. It seems like I will need to make my best impression to really "Wow" the crowd.

    Thanks in Advance,

I am kind of boring, I make 7/7 in LA or MA or HA (have a character for each) and then dye it some shade of black and blue (for stealth)

I can see putting a loud color on some armor to make it easier to find the toon on a crowded battle field or public dungeon, but I would rather blend into the shadows.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Hello @smeeprocketnub19_ESO‌,

If there is one thing the Ancient Elves loved, it was flamboyant shoulder pieces. The heavier the armour type the more extravagant they became. Where medium armour often lacks a certain presence, your Ancient Elven Shoulder Cops will announce your arrival in no uncertain terms.

Dye applications to leather can be questionable at times, leaving more of a colour “stain” than rich, luscious hues so keeping your primary colour as black is a good idea.

As it is a formal affair I would usually avoid the pantsuit option. Save it for sipping Golden Apple Ale at an Alik’r Oasis after a hard day of slaughter.

There is however an exception to every rule. If you are a templar of the smitey variety, you may wish to assert your divine wrath in a Daedric ensemble. As you are dealing with children whom you have orphaned, you don’t want to come across as too overbearing. I suggest cream and golden hues would be more appropriate if going for the softer “Vengeance of the Gods” look.

The choice is as always yours, remember “Own the fashion, don’t let it own you!”

I really hate ZOS for coming out with the Dye stations. It was hard enough to get my wife ready to go out for adventuring because she was always wanting to create new armor, something a bit more fashionable. And now the first thing she says when she gets back in Daggerfall is "I need to hit the Dye station!". Sigh :'( :)

    Darling @poodlemasterb16_ESO

Exuding evil can often feel restrictive when choosing an appropriate colour pallet for you latest outfit “Do I wear black or do I wear red” seems to be about as far as most people can get.

Evil is however much more fun when it comes as a surprise to your victims. One challenge you face is avoiding colour clashes with your crimson eyes. While mine are a delicious shade of quartz, as a Dunmer most of my brethren struggle with matching their attire to their eye colour. This is where people often fall into the tired trap of the red/purple combination discussed in my initial advice.

You may find an emerald green base colour will not only set off your eyes beautifully but lure your prey into a false sense of security.

If you find green far too conservative for your tastes, opt for a snappy orange to grab attention. Not only is orange this season’s black, it is the colour of the flames you can enjoy tormenting souls in for an eternity.

    Keep Fabulous,

She is and has always been the Red Witch. The dyes just make that easier.

I question your colour sense here as some of what you say just seems ... wrong! Especially the orange recommendation. I could assault you with my Provisioner who wears Provisioner Orange, as a bit of a joke, who knows, you might even like him. ;)

You have set a challenge for me. It is rather difficult to respond to someone who seeks advice then states they can only wear red, rather limiting really. I would ask if it is the robe that defines the essence of your Witch or if it is her cruel and unnatural tendencies as a Vampire? True evil doesn’t need to be loudly proclaimed, in fact it is a sign of self doubt “Did I terrify that travelling merchant enough?”, “Should I have slaughtered all six virgins instead of just the five in the temple?”

Evil should smoulder like hot coals, ever a warning of something deeper and far more dangerous below the surface. Embark on a journey of self discovery and be the “Red Witch” for the blood you spill not for the colour of your dress.

As for your provisioner, I am rather fond of a fellow who can cook. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like yours does it shirtless while ruggedly sweating over an open camp fire. I do have rather particular tastes but that is a discussion for another time.

May your undergarments always be silken,

    Hello @Thralgaf‌

I can appreciate the desire to feel the caress of sheer nylon on ones legs. Pantyhose do strike me as a little "9 to 5" though. You are a Vestige. Get daring under those robes and slip into some lace top stockings. Not only will you feel stunning, you will find it more convenient when you need to address a "call of nature" on the road.

A most elegant endeavour this is! Since darling, everyone knows that a blade swung by a colour-coordinated chevalier (or for that matter, spells slung by a well-dressed wizard) strike more true than the paltry pokes of a poorly-painted peasant. And since these lands are rife with those that seek to besmirch our pristine panoply with grime and blood, it is never too late to turn the odds in our favour with a striking colour scheme!

Therefore, I shall bestow upon you some simple and effective tips for the aspiring knight, in full shining armour of course.

A metallic base colour of course works always very well. But which one to choose? You probably would do well to avoid matte colours in this step, for what fair lady or gentleman in distress would ever notice you from afar, if the sun did not properly reflect from your polished plates? Yet beware! For no matter what colour you choose for this, you could entirely ruin the effect with improperly coloured detail or armour lining, making you look like some perfidious knave had painted a caricature of your magnificence, yet framed with thick mismatched colour lining. The horror!

One excellent and fairly easy to obtain solution (of course from a fabulous Breton armour level 36+ viewpoint), would be Obsidian Black for the steel component. Now this name seems deceptive, for if applied to the steel surface of this glorious Breton armour, it almost magically becomes a rich, shining steel colour. Especially the engraved details stand out very well, due to the deepness of this particular colour.

Now, a proper knight of High Rock would of course compliment this shining steel with golden accents. But be warned! Choosing too light a gold to compliment the earlier decided upon steel colour, will make the end result much less fabulous! And you do not want to be seen like that! Therefore, I would suggest the brilliant Hunding Gold. This rich and deep gold colour provides a perfect match as if made by the Divines themselves!

Now hear ye and cast off those eyesore inducing mismatched garments and heed these words of wisdom well! Go forth, ride into glory and be the envy of High Rock chevaliers throughout the realms!

And whenever you see that dye station in the distance and the daedra tempt you with redpurplejutegreen, know that I shall be closeby watching you. Silently judging you.

    With love,

    Gaebriel, High Rock Fashion Police.

I love, love, LOVE this post Seras and Gaebriel :) I do enjoy a night of high fashion, but like a fine wine, I only imbibe in moderation. If the hues do not compliment my locks, then forget about it! And a helmet!? Never sweetie, for my foes will know my wrath by the fire in my eyes (which is why Autumn is my colour) and the toss of my hair. If I need to draw my weapon, then I sometimes wonder if I have not expressed myself adequately and maybe reconsider my choice in pallete. Unless they're a complete monster then I couldn't care less. As far as armour is concerned, the play of sunlight on one's pauldrons is indeed a key element to the overall presentation. Duh! Who dares to even go out with so little fashion sense? Sunlight reveals all our little imperfections so please just please. I just have such a difficult time with Mage light. I just look like a hot mess with that little blue orb circling my girls!

Hmm, a visitor from a competing fashion house, yes? None the less those with a keen eye for style are few and far between in Tamriel so I welcome you with a cool sense of professional jealousy. Well no, that would be unfair, I am far too fabulous to be jealous.

I do agree with the sentiment of “Fashion Police”. We have a Fighters Guild to complete contracts requiring physical prowess and a Mages Guild for pursuits of a more arcane nature yet nothing to address the ever present fear caused by distasteful attire.

I have been contemplating the concept of a Guild dedicated to standing by every known dye and crafting station. Whenever a wayward adventurer equips an outfit that indicates they are actually a bag of skittles we will be there to rectify the disaster. We will accept special contracts to hunt down the most heinous offenders and strip them of all clothing until they learn that Heavy Greaves and Light Foot Wraps makes it look like they are entering combat in their socks. Socks with holes at that.

We will be fearless in the defence of couture!

Much like their smaller, domesticated counterparts, every Khajiit thinks they are the epitome of suaveness. Not every Khajiit can be Razum –dar though. A good thing too, there would be far too much swooning involved otherwise.

The biggest challenge any Khajiit faces is keeping their fur on their bodies and not all over their clothing. Remember: cat hair is lonely person glitter. Even for Khajiit.

That said, a Khajiit should never hide their face behind a helmet or hood. Snarling fangs can terrify an enemy into submission while fluffy ears can bring the furries running from a mile away.

    Dear Seras et al.

Although I personally prefer dark and sober colours, especially in my line of work, I felt compelled to add some advice for our more nocturnal visitors.

If your eyes are glowing High Blue and arms begin to emit a wispy smoke I recommend using Silver Bolt. Sunlight Yellow can really make your skin glow as will the application of Smouldering Orange. To really make your eye's pop there is also Oak Stake Beige and Blazing Inferno Red.

This also works well for the older woman who likes a cackle a little too often.

    Hope this helps,

    Light Grey.

This gives a nice black "outline" to a white outfit with purple enhancing.
