Megaserver downtimes

I feel the developers could have picked better downtimes for maintenance. Is eight o'clock in the morning eastern standard time really the least populated time of the week? It seems like they do it out of convenience for themselves... for 15 dollars a month I think they should work harder to keep the game up. Maybe I'm wrong :/ any thoughts?

I make a great salary (not bragging, I mean it in the sense that my pay is fair compensation for my skills) at work. Does that mean I should go to work in the middle of the night so as to not inconvenience others? Hell no. My opinion is that if it would be unreasonable to ask me to do it, I can't expect somebody else to.

They base the times off the servers their metrics give them about what the peak and slow times are. Based off when they launched and updated on maintenance days when they don't take the server down.

They say the numbers point to 8am being the best time and I'm inclined to believe them. I can't see them scheduling regular maintenance for times when they know they're inconveniencing more people than they have to.

Depending on your job, if it is service based then you need to be there for your prime times. That's like saying a pizza shop shouldn't open on a Friday night because they didn't feel like it. Well yea they could do that but they might not keep loyal customers. That was my point. I'm sure Carnagan is right about peak times. I happen to feel like its a bad time because I work third shift. I figured more people would work third shift and would get on afterwards. Maybe not as many as I thought...

yea it seems like 5am would be more appropriate. I am with you as part of the ESO morning crew and downtimes are always happening when I am playing.

But 5:00AM EST is 2:00AM PST, which would still cut in to nighttime play (by far more popular than mornings) as well as Aussie primetime. And we know the Aussies love feeling like no one cares about their timezone.

Most people in America work during the day. I usually have strange hours, so I'm often on in the mornings. However, I accept that my schedule is not the norm. They build their maintenance times based on when the majority of people are not going to be signing on.

Sometimes I feel like that isn't true driving around western Massachusetts on a Tuesday afternoon at 1:30. I'm guessing not many of them play online role playing video games either...

I can't think of one occasion I have tried to log on and been unable to so I'm fine with when they are. Whenever that is.

Firstly, it’s about numbers, pure and simple. Inconvenience the least statistically and get the job done.

They should do it at 4 am EDT/1 am PDT for the NA server. That's when the servers are least populated I bet. Also, to any of you Europeans about to complain that that's in the middle of the day for you: the EU server is a thing.

Did... did you just do preemptive complaint-complaining?

Working 3rd shift is an issue, knowing when I get off work the server will be down, (if I paid attention to the notices anyway). But I have characters on PTS and EU servers also. Allowing me to get my daily fix, as well as taking some things I've learn on my NA main character and applying them to my other server(s) crew.

It's not very productive to complain about lag, and drop of FPS, etc. on the one hand, then complain for the maintenance down-time on the other, (I'm directing that to the general tone of the forums, not the OP or any other particular post in this thread.)

Well EU server can be down between 03:00 to 11:00 just like WoW have and those few hours have work for WoW for 10 years now so why should not work for ESO what im saying is that those hours most people are sleep and at work and school as well but have down time as the have now in day time and afternoon is not the best for then most people are come home from work.

Normally in Australia we get use to getting the raw end of a deal: new movies come out later here, t.v. series are behind the U.S. but awesomely enough the ESO downtime is mostly happening when I am at work or asleep so has had next to no impact on me :D

I've seen this argument time and time again in every MMO I have ever played. The truth of the matter is... that yes, yes the developers of these games are out to get you and plan their maintenance at the times they will inconvenience you the most.

"We will not be having our regular maintenance for the North American and European Megaservers on August 18."

I feel that looks pretty damn good for Zenimax and their intentions. Although it could just be a good gesture.
