Is fire resistance really bugged?

I tested with a VR12 character versus a VR1 scamp.

With absolutely no armor on, I took 264 from his little bolt attack every time. No variation.

With 1120 fire resistance from an ammy, I took 183 damage.

With 2240 fire resistance from an ammy and a ring, I took 183 damage.

With 3420 fire resistance from an ammy, and a ring, and a ring, I took 183 damage.

Does that sound right to anyone?

Or is something bugged?

Edit: Just tried with 3770 fire resist and still take 183 damage.

Damage mitigation is capped at 50% in regards to spell resist and armor value.

Thus if you are currently at the soft cap in spell resist you currently have 35% damage mitigation against spells (abilities the go against spell resistance).

Adding Fire Resistance on top of that 35% means you can at most only obtain 15% more damage mitigation for the total of 50% fire damage mitigation.

At most a player will need no more then around 850-900 Fire Resistance if they are around the soft cap in spell resistance to gain there 50% hard cap value. Thus stacking more is pointless.

Also be aware just because an ability says it goes magic damage or even flame damage does not mean it is against the targets spell resistance. Some magic and flame attacks is actually against a targets Armor.

    Example is Flame Lash.

So, prevampire i was taking 400 dot tick from flame ballistas with no fire resistance.

After becoming a vampire, with 1475 fire resistance from an ammy, i was taking 600 dot tick from flame ballistas.

With 3720 fire resistance I am taking 900+ dot tick. So, I am going to consider my character bugged.

Same with oil. I am taking almost 1k per tick from fire damage.

Can some of you guys post your vampire damage ticks from oil in pvp?

    Thanks.

    The math works like this

800 Damage from fire, reduced by spell resist (cap) to 50% = 400 Damage

800 Damage from fire to a VAMPIRE (x 1.5 = 1200 damage), then reduced by spell resist cap to 50% = 600 damage.

If two players, both at the spell resist cap, but one is a vampire, the vampire will still take 50% more damage from fire.

Now most player will not get to the hard cap of 50% reduction, but your numbers look about right. Anything over the spell resist cap (hard cap, not the soft cap) is a waste.

Also note, if you are at the spell resist cap, then fire resistance does NOTHING. They do not add together, one is a subset of the other.
So, prevampire i was taking 400 dot tick from flame ballistas with no fire resistance..
You still has spell resistance, even a L1 toon has about 200 spell resistance. The default damage of a flame ballistas is 750

But if the person firing the flame ballistas has the passive Slayer, it does more damage vs vampires as well and hitting you harder causes is fire.

Ok, thanks a lot. That information helps a lot.

You take higher damage as you gain more fire resistance?
I'd probably put in a /bug report about that.
