Horses and Pets in Town

Please, ZOS, ban pets and horses in town. Make them auto-store.

Take threads like this for instance. With the bug right now on collision with pets, it's all the more frustrating. But it speaks to a larger issue about people not having any sort of courtesy or manners with them.

I walk out of a bank and get trampled by the guy riding his horse all the way up the steps of the bank. Really?

I go to use the blacksmith anvil but I can't even see it for the crowd of flapping wings. Really?

It breaks immersion. It adds to the clutter. People are now using it to actively troll.

Please just put a barrier at the edge of all towns (like where the map shifts) that prevent use of pets and horses in town.

I know people will complain about horses and the notion of running across town, but the 30 seconds longer on foot won't kill you. And I'd not mind horses and pets in towns if they were somehow limited to only being on roads.

But this really needs to change. :(

Hate most pets in town, but my horse is essential, especially in bigger towns. Good thing horses have collide turned off. Still common courtesies don't always show in MMO.

Horses are fine in towns. There's no possibility of griefing with them because there's no collision. You can move right through them.

Im quite happy having both my horse (i dont like to be slow , if you do , then dont use a horse youself) AND my pets in town.

And i really dont think zen will even consider removing the sorcs summons either , they are planning on adding the justice system , which means people will be fighting in towns probably.

No, no it doesn't. Only thing that needs to change is collision needs to be removed, (a.k.a. fixed)

I don't want to die in a fight because my pet gets unsummoned because I got too close to a town and didn't notice.

Similarly, I do a lot of running back in forth in town from bank to crafting station and back. All those 30 seconds longer adds up. No thanks.

It's not about griefing with horses... its about how they're used and it breaking immersion. I agree, you should be able to ride a horse through town on the road. You shouldn't be able to ride it onto the bank steps. I don't know what the solution is there, but I think something needs to be done to keep a less cartoony feel. It just looks like a joke.

And while you might be happy with your pets in town, they are annoying to the rest of us when they block view, clutter space, and people have not courtesy using them. Perhaps if players had some respect for other by not leaving them out while in buildings, it wouldn't be a problem. Perception of it by others is based on the use.

Perhaps it should only be within buildings as that's where the bulk of the problem is.

They're fixing the pet collision. Removing the ability to use a horse where we can now is a negative, I personally hate it now when I walk through a tunnel or on a random patch of ground and get dismounted.

I can answer with the same logic really.

Many of us dont care about immersion the same way you and some others do and many of us like having our pets out in towns so to us not having out horses and our pets would be annoying. You are therefore trying to annoy us.

Like i said , with the justice system probably many of those places will become open for PvP , so people will require to have their skills open to them.

Hell i play a templar mind you and i still think sorcs should have their minions.

yea the upcoming justice system means you can't limit pets being in towns. Not that pets are really advantageous in pvp (excepting the bugged volatile one.)

What I really hated was when monkey pets (the most annoying thing ever made) would start spazzing out in banks. They would be having seizures of some sort and would screech endlessly. So here's a transcript of a ten-second trip to the bank:

We respect the fact that this behaviour makes you quite happy, perhaps you should in turn consider respecting the fact that it doesn't make many other players quite as happy.

Even as a pet-based sorc, I completely agree that the whole pet situation is extremely irritating, and the whole justice system will probably make them more present than ever in towns.
And while ZOS have stated they intend to turn off pet collision for friendly PCS, since the collision of pets is meant to hinder hostiles, I'm not sure how that plan will be affected by the coming of the justice system.

I straight-up don't have a problem with either of these. Not even a little bit. People wanna show off their pets in town, let 'em. People wanna save time getting across the city, let 'em. It's kind of annoying seeing Winged Twilight wings flapping while in dialogue with the banker, but it's hardly the end of the world (and it's also kind of amusing).

I see selfish and inconsiderate attitudes in this argument, but I'm going to have to disagree with OP as to which side of the argument is the one showing those attitudes.

I saw a guy blocking the dye station with a pet on day one of the update, which is an actual problem, but I kindly asked him to turn it off and he did. It was a painless exchange and he was entirely sorry for disrupting it for everyone. If a player does something, it isn't necessarily on purpose, and they aren't always beyond simple reasoning.

It's nice when that happens, however more often than not I come across people who don't give a damn and are not willing to unsummon their pets in banks, even if I politely ask them to do so in /say.

Makes sense and i do , i dont use my horse or pets (note that all this time im talking about mini pets not the actually sorc ones) to annoy others , i just use them.

I want to go fast , thus i use my horse , that is all , i dont stop with my horse right in the face others with the solo purpose of annoying them and so on.

@Nox_Aeterna‌ Ah I thought you meant sorc pets...Vanity pets are not that bad; 100 mudcrabs/monkeys/etc inside a bank look ridiculous, but at least you can jump over them, and once collision is turned off for those, it will be mostly an aesthetical issue rather than a practical one.
  • andre.roques.3b14_ESO
Collision on these items just need to be off. For some it is, but it is an annoyance to constantly 'rebuff' summons because of porting, entering a bank, etc. Maybe a full solution would be that the toggle remains ON and as soon as you leave that area the pet resummons. I am trying to be fair for summoner types.

Too bad. There's already a mechanism in place to stop people from mounting horses, or to force them to dismount, in places that the designers felt horses shouldn't be used. Note that this does not only apply to indoors locations - there are locations outside where you are forced to dismount. If the designers felt that people shouldn't be allowed to ride horses onto bank steps they could have easily made that the case.

ETA: The simple solution to pets in town is to give players a switch to make other peoples friendly pets inviz to the person throwing the inviz switch.

    Horses despawn at the doors.
'A' solution to horses on the bank steps and all is to make them despawn 15 feet from the door, and within a 5 foot buffer zone around forge buildings or vendors.

I agree that annoying pets in cramped banks is rude but I disagree about banning them in the whole town. Some towns are so badly laid out with stable on one side, bank on the other and craft hubs all the way on the next that there is no way I can do without my horse, especially when doing the alt stable feed/vault inv swap dance.

just have pets be put up inside bank buildings and area enlarged for dismounts in front. I already have to resummon pets half the time due to instance changing or zoning so why not

Don't mind pets in town generally. Having them in banks is a pain though especially little banks like Rawl'Kha you can get blocked in. The one that bugs me though is people with pets that stand around at wayshrine spawn points. Several times have been stuck on pets and not able to move from the spawn point. Turning collision off wouldn't be a bad thing.

I am not so worried about the horse thing. At best they can impede vision. All of the vanity pets though are a menace. If someone stalls in a doorway or takes a break at the shrine you can be stuck until they return.

Solution would be to turn collusion off for them as they are not something other then the owner of the pet can do anything about. Sorc pets can at least be killed. Perhaps not by friendly players themselves but certainly can die to mobs and enemy players.
