Suggestion -Anyone else think the game might be improved if Zenimax removed class restrictions?

If they removed the fact that people have to choose from 4 classes at the start it would mean players would have more freedom and choice in character builds. For example you could be able to make a character using the Aedric pear Tree and the Shadow Tree or the Draconic power and the Daedric Summoning Tree. You were never forced to choose between classes at the start in the single player games, you could customise and make your character knowing certain skills and spells would not be locked away from you for the rest of the game after you created your character.
It just seems out of place have restrictions like this in an Elder Scrolls game. :)
Not every MMO has to have classes.

Does anyone agree or disagree?

They had a poll on this awhile ago.

It is simple for people to choose a class. Simple appeals to more of their customer base.

There is also a fear that 'everyone would choose the same skills' because it is obvious ESO can't buff rarely chosen skills or adjust them in any way.

My hope is that the introduction of Spellcrafting to the game may bring more of the flexibility the OP is looking for. If it is implemented well, in theory we should be able to customize our skill bars enough that perhaps class skills will no longer be as relevant or even as powerful. Of course, I did always like rose colored glasses myself... ;)

I desagree, because it will decrease diversity of builds more than now.
I just can imagine all with this bars: talons, bolt escape, cloak, reflective, mark, whips, dragon blood, sun shield, aoe templar healing, critical surge, crystal shard. Ultimates: standard and veils or negate magic.
It could be ok in an only pve mmo, but not here with ava/rvr.

Far more fun to have people complain about "broken" builds than to simply let them adapt to ones that currently work.

For that to work they would have to redo all the skills. The lower down the list, the better the skills usually are. The last skill you unlock in a skill line is usually really powerful, nobody would bother using the first 4 skills for the most part, they would fill their bars with the last skills from each skill line. Right now, we're limited to 3 'last' skills, if there were no classes, you could potentially have every slotted skill being the best ones in their respective lines.

Point being, it would make 90% of the skills pointless because nobody would want to gimp themselves by using them. Obviously there are some exceptions, but the game is built around the idea of using less amazing skills and working towards the better ones, but not having enough amazing skills to completely remove the need to use the ones you started with.

I just think removing the classes would require them to go back and completely redesign the whole character & skills systems.

If they do do this, I would probably use these 3 skill lines:
    Daedric summoning
    Storm calling
    Dark magic

    About it I suppose

True, would be nice if they put restrictions on things though, like you could only have 3 tree's active, but could mix them how ever. The only problem with it is that the game is unbalanced. It would be best implemented when they introduce spell crafting/DBH/TG. I'm thinking by update 7 classes will start becoming the "guidelines" they were meant to be.

    -marcusstratus' wife speaking-

I definitely wish I could mix and match skill lines. As mentioned in another thread asking "can you play how you want," it's very disappointing to me that I can't, for example, have a mage that uses invisibility along with his dark magic, or a Dunmer who specializes in fire using both the dawn's wrath and the ardent flame skill lines. I would really like more flexibility, as the limitations make it hard to choose a class and impossible to create certain character ideas I would enjoy playing with.

I suppose I can imagine it could be a bit of a hairy mess if it was a complete free-for-all-pick-whatever-spells-you-want from all the different lines scenario, but if you could at least make your custom class by choosing three character skill lines out of all the ones they have for classes now, I think it would be a big improvement.

Another thought though is that if you did have a chance to level more than 3 class skill lines it could provide some extra entertainment later in the game to try out different things - especially if you don't really feel like going through all the early content again on a completely new character in order to try out some different skill lines, that can be pretty tedious. I know I'd enjoy switching it up (a bit more than just changing morphs) to give an old character some new interests.
