[Resolved]Dyes! What is going on?

Hello all,

I'd like to know what is going on with dyes. More specifically why do I get mixed availabilty of dyes?

What has happened;

First time I used dyes I had a list of unlocked dyes and did not show the locked dyes by my choice.

Further use of dyes (no further achievements) I had all same unlocked dyes on the various characters I played and used dye with.

Today I have gone to dye the new gear on a levelled character (new armour) and I saw only a few unlocked dyes and nowhere near amount there should have been.

Thinking that maybe this was an achievements bug or such I checked a few achievements but, admittedly, got a bit bored so I tried a different tactic and logged out.

I logged into the character that has kind of become my main - expecting to see the earlier and fuller list of unlocked dyes. I was surprised to see the amount of unlocked dyes was higher than on previous character but lower than expected.

Back to original character used today and I have all the unlocked dyes back - or so I thought!

It seems that at least one dye I previously had as unlocked is now locked. I'm not sure the name of the missing dye but it is a whiter kind of colour and is clearly part of the one saved set I have on the character (previously able to use the set) but no tooltip shows for any dye in the set to name the dye and I cannot apply the set.

I can understand if I was accidently allowed to have a dye unlocked and that is now locked. However, when I change character then get different amounts of dye available, including changing amounts when logging in and out then back in to same character, something is amiss.

Anyone else getting these varied amounts of unlocked dyes on different log in to different or same character?

Is this a bug?

There was a bug that some dyes were unlocked that shouldn't have been. This was fixed in the hotfix 1.3.4 on Monday. There's another bug that some achievements aren't counting/registering, preventing the dye from being unlocked when it should be.

As far as I can tell, if you unlock a dye on one character, you get that dye on all your characters.

Log in with your veteran character or whatever character you unlocked the dyes with, then go back to your other ones. Since the patch it seems like you have to log in with the character in order to re-unlock them.

I had the same moment of confusion - went and read the patch notes - turns out, the patch *fixed* certain dye colors that were being unlocked for your character when they weren't supposed to be - something about better matching the achievements to the dyes they were supposed to unlock or some such

I know it's not the best option, but I hope that helps clear up the confusion, at least

Yeah, they've screwed the pooch with this one for sure. Some dyes show up on one character, but not another....achievements that were tracked prior to this rollout now got reset...it's a real flustercuck.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Yes, you need to log into all characters that may have completed an achievement unique to those of any other characters you have. Then they will all show up for everyone.

I had heard about the first bug you mention but not the second and I thought that the unlocks worked as you say - unlock once for all characters.

I tried just that but I am getting various quantities of unlocked dyes each time I log to a different character - even after logging on to my 'accidental main'. That 'main' is only level 38 - I'm not exactly rushing through conent! :)

I'm not looking to get dyes I am not entitled too - those I have not unlocked should stay locked.

What should be seen though is consistency!

Also, if I did have a dye I was not entitled to and it has now been (as it should be) locked then it should not remain in any dye set as this just causes frustration.

Thanks for the replies (both given marks as deserved) but I think I will have to see how this plays out and, if needed, put in a support request. As is, I'm now reluctant to dye anything as I feel the system is a bust and totally unreliable.

If you read my post and did what i said then you should know by now that this is not an issue.

I had to do the same thing.

I appreciate the comments from you all but It's getting late here and this issue has made me not want to continue playing tonight so I have logged off.

This is the latest coffin nail for me and I'm now seriously thinking of giving up on the game.

I will try again another day and go through all my characters and do further testing but, in truth and right this moment, I've had enough.

    Thanks again for the comments.

    Edit: slight rewording and spelling.

yes, minor bugs with entirely aesthetic choices in the game is a horrible, game breaking thing. lol

It's not that a single minor bug is a horrible game breaking thing. However, many small individual bugs add up (so to say) and there is only so much people will allow to add up until they have finally had enough.

As is, I am taking the comments thusfar onboard and will be going back into game later today to see what I can do to rectify the issue myself based on the comments.

Sorry! When I shut down PC last night your comments had not shown for me. I have read all the posts (that have shown to date) and, as written, will be going back into game today armed with all the useful information you guys have given.

I can only appoplogies for not taking your post(s) into account until now - when I have seen them. :)

As for this being a non issue then I will agree so long as I have all the dyes due to my account after following the generously given guidance.

    Moonstone White?

I'm totally unsure! All I know is that the dye is a whiter or lighter colour. There is no tooltip to show the colour when I mouse over it in the set.

Thanks again for all the replies. Hopefully the guidance given is enough to rectify the problem.

So! I have been back in game and used the information given.

Now I have my dyes back including two colours not shown at all yesterday and one is the dye that was in a set but made the set unusable - Varla White.

Thanks again for the comments, guidance and advice. This was a small issue but still an issue. Gladly, the issue is resolved* and (it appears) I now have correct dyes showing up correctly and consistantly across my characters.

    What I did after reading the replies here (in case anyone else needs to know);

    Log in as usual
    1. Start playing next character in list.
    2. Go to dye station and use it - important to do this.
    3. Uncheck 'Show Locked' and compare the dyes to your achievements.
    4. Note any dyes you think are unfairly unlocked and list them to report later - optional.
    5. Note any dyes you think are unfairly locked and list them to report later - optional.
    6. Log out of current character.
Repeat the list as shown for each character in character list.
If a 'new' dye is listed check it against achievement and alter locked or unlocked lists you made already as required.
Should you have dyes that are thought to be unfairly unlocked or locked then report or 'ticket' them to customer services as required.

*There are a lot of dyes to check against achievements but I have done a quick check and all seems OK for my dye list (unlocked or locked) at the moment.
