Character looking charred/burned

Maybe this has been discussed before but lately my player is taking on a charred/burned/blackened appearance sometimes in battle. I have only noticed it in Cyrodiil. Never noticed it before..is this a new feature update? I have to log to get back to my "pretty" appearance. Who wants to run around looking swollen, bruised and burned?

Also my NB is seriously squishy now. I am not happy about this at all. I thought they were working to "balance"...not *** one build to suit the others?

Third complaint is, while I enjoy seeing the other factions areas and doing their quests I am very frustrated that the food items that drop do not correspond. As a level 50 provisioner in Auridon and Grahtwood I only come across ingredients for super low recipes-I am not totally unable to cook my recipes based on what I am finding in those areas. I have to go back to my faction's higher level areas and merely scour ingredients? BORING and a total impediment of gameplay.

Phantax-that may be it LOL but I have certainly gotten hit with oil before and didn't get this weird charred and blackened appearance.

I am just wondering if it was something new that was added in the last update. Or am I the only one experiencing it?

There are a few procs set off by skills that make a toon look like it's on fire, covered in oil, wet, etc.

It may be one of those since you said "sometimes in battle".

I am a NB too and this happened to me for the first time on Friday. I was also in Cyrodiil, but unfortunately I don't remember what I was doing when it happened. I just suddenly noticed that my brand new white tabard was smeared all over with black soot or something and then saw it was also on my face and armor. Weird...lol

The templar skill "repentance" causes this look to happen. sometimes it's randomly popping up on me, though.

It clearly has nothing to do with class skills, your templar and my nightblade experience the same thing.

I also had this issue while running with a group on my templar. It looked like I'd taken a curling iron to my face.

i'm not a templar, i'm a NB. it happens when a templar uses the skill on corpses.

I got that, too.

Nightblade.

Was curious about it for <1 second.

Then I realized this is Zenimax probably trying to do something creative and failing.

Or their game is broken.

Probably both.

no worries. the thing with it is, though, the BBQ face is sticking around a lot longer and randomly shows up on me now. Before patch it was briefly after i'd resurrect. now it's whenever the heck it feels like it. i pretend its my warpaint.

I have the other morph of the ability that consumes corpses, so maybe it's Restoring Aura in general? Or multiple abilities.

They changed stealth recently to give you a darker look while hidden, it looks like you are getting visually stuck in stealth mode.

Yeah the burned look is all the rage now.

If you are disintegrated or roasted you keep that look for a bit.

or at least until your Pc crashes from that sweet, sweet memory leak , then your good as new.

I would have to say yes after a rez vs after respawn. And my face looks swollen sometimes, too.

Aaaaaah yes the crashes. I crash at least 5 times a night in Cyro now.

My templar did this but instead of burnt looking it was red , looked like her face had been bloodied. I'll have to take a pic next time it happens.

It's not a Templar only thing, as I've had it happen to my DK while in Cyrodiil.

My character got filthy after my corpse was fed on by an enemy werewolf player while in PVP.

I almost wonder if this is some sort of result of caches not being cleared, similar to how people randomly wind up with bread or some other random thing stuck in their hand long after they actually used the item in question.

There was one time when my vampire character, after feeding, ran around for almost an hour with a blood covered face. I know this isn't the same thing, but could be related.

I think it's actually a pretty cool look...especially after fighting a hard battle. I like that it affects your skin, armor and tabbard, for a nice, coordinated look.
