How much do you sell items for?

Now I ask this because I recently sold a recipe for 30,000 via guild store (it has a purpose, sorta...)
Then I see in Crag someone running around trying to sell a virtually identical recipe (purple, increased HP for 240-250 for 2 hours) for 135,000
Besides trying to explain to him that that wont sell because there are no items at this time worth that much I am wondering how other people play.

See that is the one thing I never understood, not just in this but in other games, setting the price so high that nobody except a Saudi prince could afford that virtual item.

Do you go with the happy medium, do you offer for the bare minimum price, or do you play the long game, set the prices high and wait for it to sell (if it ever does).

Up until this patch, they did sell at that price and higher. The drop rate for purple recipes changed this patch and not everyone has adjusted. Just saying, that person may not have been trying to gouge. 135k for a purple recipe was a bargain last week when recipes were selling for half a mil.

Recipes - especialyl purple and veteran - are some of the last big money maker ways.
Unlike Motifs (other big prices) they actuall have a game effect.

and as nudel pointed out, they significantly boosted purple droprate.
So much I found two purples sicne patch when I found none the entire months since launch.

I don't sell items. I give items away for free, much funer^^ Same deal with crafting(up to blue quality, anyway. I simply don't have enough purple and golds for anything above that often, so only with mats provided). Sometimes people tip me for that more than generously(sometimes more than the item was worth originally xD), but that's up to them.

I put rare motifs and stuff like that in my guild bank for my friends to take if needed, everything else I'll just give to whoever may need it more than me.

What's your guild? I'd like to join for non-bargain hunting purposes. Give me a minute, I might think of one.

I normally try and find out what the average selling price is for an item and then undercut just a little to ensure a sale !
If somebody in chat is selling something for 30k and I have one, I'll offer it at 29k.

If its something I can't find anywhere or that nobody else seems to have I tend to hang on to it for a while. (wouldn't want to sell it too cheap now would I)

I check my guild stores first then go for the middle-low price range.
    I've sold:
    Purple recipe - 100k
    imperial motif - 70k
    Purple motifs - 20k

I only sell in guild stores, every thing has sold within a couple of days.
The next day I saw the same purple recipe in the same guild store for 240k, it's still sitting there unsold.

I have several of those blue racial motif things that remain unused and at least one purple recipe and a small amount of the 'higher' ingredients for transmuting an items level. I've not really gotten into buying and selling in ESO - don't even belong to a guild!

For me, an item will only sell for what someone else is prepared to buy it at. In other games, I would always try to research current prices and try to price match other sellers rather than undercut them but this inevitably led to me being undercut.

Something that gets talked about a lot on some game forums is 'seller greed' and how some sellers will always try to get the highest payment - even if it means cheating the buyer in some way. Less talked about is 'buyer greed' where the buyer will always want the lowest price - even, or especially, where the price they want to pay is vastly less than the going rate for the particular item wanted.

Good luck to all buyers and sellers! Try to be fair in your sales or purchase price demands.

Before I sell, I check out the nearby traders and find out what you are selling for. Then, if it is worth my time, I sell for less than you.

That is how I set my price.

Basically the way one of my guilds is working. I found a purple recipe; I'm not doing provisioning yet, so asked in guild chat if anyone wanted it. Someone whispered me yes, and I had it sent before they asked how much I wanted. I've given away ore, traded items for decon, and taken one of my higher level characters back through a low level area to help someone gather materials. One of the guildies took the time to help me get vent set up and working, and another one came by to help with a boss I kept wiping on; granted it was five levels over where I was, but I got interested in the story and ended up over my head. Turning in that quest gave me another level.
