What about adding a megaserver in Australia?

Ok, so there is a megaserver in NA and one in Europe, but what about Australia? all the people who live here are experiencing quite a bit of lag. Every time I ride my horse I get a loading screen for a couple of seconds (this happens regularly and several times on long rides) and fighting is very frustrating, because commands are not responsive. Sometimes, when I summon my horse it takes 3 or 4 seconds to appear...
I realize that both NA and Europe have more customers than Australia, but I am sure that also all the people in Asia would love a closer megaserver, and Australia would work for many of them as well.

Sandmanninja✭✭✭✭As an Aussie, I would love to see this. However, I don't pvp and the ping times to the States isn't a huge issue for me. But I would like to see this happen.[Hard Mode Dungeoneers] is recruiting all players of all levels for this new Guild.
THIS IS A NEW-BUT-GROWING GUILD. We are focused on doing vet pledges, vet dungeons, getting achieves, & doing hard mode bosses.

Taself✭✭✭I live in Hobart, Tasmania the southern most Aussie city. Have been using the European Mega Server both when it was in USA and now that it's been migrated with no real lag issues. Except for the major glitch that everyone was suffering from after the migration. Would be nice to have a local server but not something I class a major concern.2

yiasemi✭✭✭✭In Hong Kong there is occasional lag (every couple of weeks or so I have a bad day), and I can forget PvP for now, but as I am not interested in that part of the game I'm happy enough on the EU server. Not sure if an Oz server would be good, but the time zoning would rock at least. But then I wouldn't get the pick of the treasure chests and virgin dungeons. The second is not what first sprang into your diseased minds by the way.2 -

I never said insignificant. You have to think like people who actually make money, since this is a business we are talking about.
We don't have numbers as to how many people are playing from that part of the world. A mega server might not make sense as there might not be enough people to even make it work...
I feel you, I don't think I could online game with a ping higher than 100...I don't know how aussies do it...
but don't make the troll bait stretch on my comment saying its insignificant.
we all know how the world works...and we all know your region doesn't have a ton of players....wait...whatever...do your im significant mega server, enjoy group finder with 200 people online at one time and enjoy pvp that's dead in most of the areas..since you want to feel so damn special...there now your insignificant.

✭✭Maybe a better idea would be to relocate the US megaserver to Oceanic NZ/Aus, seeing as the numbers of us having good ping would be so "insignificant" to quote the guy above, then everyone would be playing at the same ping disadvantage

A game that lags this bad is hardly worth 15 $/month...
I understand that the devs are probably still recovering from the cost of making the game, but at least give us some hope for a better future. What is the cost of running a megaserver? would it really be that expensive to add one for Oceania/Asia?
They made this huge efforts to create some cool PvP, and then many people can't play because of latency issues...

Which sucks, and I really feel for the Aussies. At least as a Canadian, the server being in Texas isn't too bad (and no one ever puts servers here either, I bet). I'm actually surprised that my latency to EU isn't that bad, though, and sometimes still feels more responsive than NA.
That sounds really strange. Why would that be? Crappier lines in Asia?

Dyabolikal✭✭Im Aussie, I would love to see that happen but we know that it wont. Wishful thinking, at least we were not forced to be on the EU server no that would be real bad. Having an Asian server would not work either as you would need to know Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and English to be able to play effectively.
I am learning japanese and thats hard enough as it is. Lets just leave it where it is and know that Aussies are better players because we can still win under bad latency

OK, so catch me up, then, do you still have a telephone monopoly called Telecomm? We sort of have phone monopolies here, too, based on region, but cell phones kind of broke that.

✭✭✭It probably depends on how many customers would be serviced by having a megaserver in that location and whether or not they'd be able recoup the expenses by having one there.
You'd need the hardware, obviously. But you'd also have to rent space for the server. Plus you'd have to hire people to handle it. So you'd have to have another setup like the one they've got in Germany.
If the Aussie/NZ subscriber base is large enough to cover the expenses associated with running a megaserver there, I'd say they should consider doing it. Especially if it would end up encouraging more Aussies/NZ's to buy the game and subscribe.

It is about half the population of germany or 1/20 of the total european population.
And they had to multiply that number of servers by 3 - one for the PC players and one for each console.

mips_winnt✭✭✭I don't know why people seem to think local population is a major deciding factor in data center location, as a matter of fact for the Asia-Pacific region Australia has one of the more advanced infrastructures for outsourced data centers (Seoul would be another one), along with reasonable costs and decent ingress/egress network access at a reasonable price. So locating a data center in Australia to service APAC is a fairly attractive option (if ZOS decided to add a DC in APAC that is) some of the other options in the region are either more expensive (e.g. Japan or Singapore) or suffer onerous network access restrictions (anywhere in China).
