EDIT: Since everyone thinks "lol turn down the volume" is a helpful reply, I will state it as clearly as I can; Only certain sounds give me any trouble. The rest of the game is at a good volume. Some of it, I even have trouble hearing over other things. The range of volume in the game is often too high, and often between sounds that fit under the same category, ruling out "changing the settings" as well.

Please please pleeeeeeease tone down the volume on post-cast applications of Restoring / Radiant Aura. It is so unnecessarily loud. Or, you know, just change the sound of it applying to players entirely. Just keep the initial cast sound, but a bit lower, and make it stop spamming the sound if you move around in a large group.

I'd also say Healing Ritual is just too booming. It's part of the reason I never liked using it. I have some pretty solid speakers but no other abilities that I can recall have bothered me so much.

Also, the lightning on one of the final Coldharbour quests (the strikes that spawn enemies in some circles or something) about gave me a heart attack. Seriously, it was like 400% the volume of anything else in the game and I didn't expected it.

Anybody know of any other things in the game that need toned down on volume?

I haven't encountered anything that I've found overly loud, but I wanted to say that I absolutely love loud thunder booms. In games as well as real life. Even if it startles me, it's just so damn enjoyable.

As do I, typically. Just the Coldharbour ones sounded more electronic than like actual thunder. It seemed rather senseless and dangerously loud.

But do you have a Templar that can use the aura? Worth looking into. Just go to a major city near other players to test it. Cast it and walk around. You will see what I mean.

Doesn't bother me when I play my Templar. Sounds like you just need to turn down your speakers :)

They seem to have trouble balancing their sound levels at times. Still have nightmares of the clobbering sounds of horse hoofs in my head but at least they fixed it eventually and it sounds quite good now.

Oh and please work on fade levels between music and npc dialogue.

Evergnar knows what I'm talking about. I play at a moderately high volume but like I said, nothing else bothers me. In fact, a lot of things sound rather quiet. Certain abilities just make my ears bleed.

I have noticed occasions where the NPC voice will suddenly get sort of quiet and then get loud again after a minute or so.

I'm having a similar problem. I like to crank my volume way up but all of the sounds are way too loud compared to silence and quiet things! FIX THIS NAO!

I don't know about you, but my sound system has this little knob that, depending on the direction it's being turned, makes stuff louder or less loud.

Seriously though, I have not heard anything overly loud yet. The loudest sound being that of dropping anchors.

I use a good quality set of gaming headphones and find that sound is well balanced. Perhaps it is an issue with the quality of your speakers. I don't mean this disrespectfully, it's a lesson I have learned myself. If you are using good quality speakers/headphones maybe go into your device via control panel and look at some of your sound settings.

No one wants to be deafened but I do like it when some abilities sound powerful. Having a thunder spell that sounds like a party popper wouldn't be very intimidating to the enemy :)

Don't forget there is an option to tweak the sounds in game. Not sure what all options there are, but I had to tune the game volume down when on teamspeak so I could hear folks talking, so there might be something there to tweak. I am not at my gaming console so can't tell for sure.

The door to the bank constantly opening and closing. It's worse than NPC's that alternately shout or whisper at you.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Plenty of typical 8-year-old replies. Thanks, guys.

    I'm using Corsair SP2500 speakers. They're great.

Like I said, other abilities sound fine, the things I listed are easily double the volume. No sound options will change that. And yes, I know how to turn down my volume, so please take your snide remarks elsewhere.

This game is a sensory nightmare tbh. I have to turn all sounds way down accept the voices or I get all edgy and irritated. Now this is something that actually affects me in all of life ... I don't do well with lots of noises .. but this game is def extreme when it comes to volume differences.

One thing I have noticed is the better speakers make quiet and loud things sound better. You probably have good speakers, I am just throwing that out there for those who have a set of $20 speakers.

Now, I run with no music (preference) so I can actually turn down things like Ambient Volume and now I can hear the NPCs without everything being too loud. When I do have Ambient and Music too high, then I have to crank the volume to hear NPCs, then some things get jarring.

So ,try turning down the music (more so than Ambient) and Ambient Sounds and see if that helps with those things that are jarring.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I found that since they modified their implementation of 5.1 surround sound with the latest patch that somes sounds seems louder that before.

When my armor set proc fire breath this is much louder that before like my speakers are going to explode with the fire breath lol.
And when the NPC speak they are not centered on front channel anymore (center) but on all front channels (left center right). The results is some NPC seems to speak at less volume now.

And the whistle when I call my mount is now inaudible.

I agree with the OP somes sounds effects seems louder now but I think this is due to new implementation of 5.1 sounds. Give back previous implementation ZOS thanks ;)
