Should horses be able to swim?

Yes, but have them move at half speed compared to a toon swimming.

"We read fantasy to find the colors again, I think. To taste strong spices and hear the songs the sirens sang. There is something old and true in fantasy that speaks to something deep within us, to the child who dreamt that one day he would hunt the forests of the night, and feast beneath the hollow hills, and find a love to last forever somewhere south of Oz and north of Shangri-La."

Yeap , i would expect that was already in place since the start.

IF we had underwater stuff , THEN it would be resonable to unmount the player since they could go underwater and all that , BUT that is not the case in ESO , we can only remain on the surface anyway. I would expect my horse to be able to handle it.

It's highly unrealistic to be riding the horse along the beach, be perfectly fine riding in water up to the horses knees, and within another step or two be ejected from a disappearing horse.

The horse and rider should easily be able to walk/wade through water half-way up the horses flanks, and slowly swim through deeper water if your horse isn't laden with armor and packs.

I don't think most people expect to swim away from shore, but seriously, a horse shouldn't disappear as water starts to pass it's knees. Thats just stupid.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

I agree.. the proper thing should be.... speed should slow and mount's stamina should start to drain as you transition to deeper water... Clearly the dev's haven't developed much at all in the regards to water/underwater environs.. tons of work to be done....

until then, what is in place now is the most balanced for PvP....

I hate being dismounted running through a puddle on my horse. The question is simple..... should horses be able to swim?

Yup I like my horse to be like (at 2.00 start of their swim): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MZS6QPlPY8

It doesn't add much to the game. I prefer them adding character swimming with underwater zones. And it could actually work with spellcrafting (alteration school ) to make you breathe under water.

Please no. I actually like that you can't go underwater in this game. I know that I'm likely the overwhelming minority in this, but I have a very severe hydrophobia (well, virtual hydrophobia) and I start hyperventilating when underwater stuff comes along. I didn't finish a lot of content in a LOT of games because of underwater crap.

Yes, I know it's ridiculous, no I don't need you to tell me that.

And yes, I did complete a lot of content in other Elder Scroll games that required underwater moments...but...I had help...>.>

That Sonic level must have been awful for you on Sega. I always made my sister play that level, seeing Sonic drown was never fun.

But I don't really think game alterations should be made on virtual phobias. I would love underwater zones. but that z axis is a pita to work with.
Dear Sister, I do not spread rumors, I create them.

So they can swim just not with you on them like in Skyrim?

ESO takes place in an era before horses had learned how to swim.

There should be some way of determining the depth. If not just make them all SUPER horses that swim with ppl on them.

Yeah, the depth they disappear is wrong.

But having them swim with an armoured DragonKnight would be wrong too.

They need to have some way of letting us get up to our ankles on the stirrups before the horse vanished.

In other news, I got dismounted while going through a cave in the north of Rivenspire (between Northpoint and Doomcrag). That was unnecessary IMO; there was no valid reason to kick me off in there as it's part of the open overworld and a required part of the walking route.

IIRC back when I was first playing I went through one of the arches in Velkhan Guard or whatever it was too close to the edge of the arch and got dismounted. Seems like you can (or at least, used to) get dismounted if you got too close to a wall.

Who cares if my horse can swim, I want a Pegasus so I can fly over all those rivers  I also think talking about realism isn't so important, because I guess no person could walk around with 100 pieces of iron gear in his "inventory"

I never understood why horses are set to dismount when encountering water rather than swim.
There is no valid reason for this.
It's a nuisance to mount again each time my horse get a little bit wet.
Though it might be difficult to implement.
I vote for horses to swim like there is no tomorrow :)

The "dismounting deepth" could be a bit higher for people on horses. It is the same as "person has to swim" depth.
But since the server has to make the call about "who is swimming", I can see why they choose a blanket value - it is just that much easier.

If we were able to move during the horse mount animation, it would be much less of an issues to begin with.

You could in skyrim go through water at a reduced speed on your horse. I don't see why not, people want to bring realism into the game and say "not while youre riding it" thats ok, I don't remember seeing orcs or dragons outside my home...

Yes they can swim in real life and it seems to be one of the training exercises for race horses as well.

If they don't add it, I won't lose sleep. However, there's my vote and reason. :grinning:
