I mean, it seems weird that everything like guild banking, the kiosks, the tabards, etc, etc. revolves around a system that wasn't even in the TES series period, with the exceptions of the Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, and the others.
Granted this is an Mmorpg experience, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but in a way, Zenimax is crippling players who aren't in a Guild, or like yourself, who just want smaller guilds with a group of friends, by eliminating the use of certain options in the game.
It doesn't sound like you "want" 5 more guild members, it sounds like you "need" them. This of course is to access more options, correct? If you had the choice not to have more members, it would most likely just be a static party/guild, right? At least, that's how I'm seeing it.
