If you see someone asking for help in chat, don't be "that guy"

"That guy" will always be there. It's just something you have to deal with in a large enough community of people. I find that it depends a bit on the situation. For a world boss fight, I'd say a majority of the players would find it much easier with help. "That guy" in his attempt to look superior comes across as an elitist. However, if the scenario changes, then "That guy" becomes the majority of the community and he's no longer an elitist but a voice for the majority. If someone posts in chat, "I need 100g. Someone give it to me" then "That guy" that shoots him down is just repeating what a lot of people are thinking.

The short version is that players will take one side or the other. There is black/white and a VERY large grey area that people will never be able to agree about a right/wrong way.

There is one advantage to "that guy" in zone chat. You put him on ignore and not only do you not have to worry about him anymore while you get the boss killed, but you never have to worry about him again going forward in the game. there will always be that guy. ignore him and add to your friends list the people who do help

"..only to have someone say I shouldn't need help and they cleared all bosses solo with damaged equipment and should learn to play."

I know this sort so well. They leave you alone but they don't want to feel like the "not-so-helpful"-guys, because in their heads they think they are angels..so what they do ? They blame you, so they still can have their nice self picture.
That you stand there and have still no help but told you are a jerk additionally is not their topic.

They are sissis in their heads, little girls and that is a reason i play on the us-cluster and not on the eu-cluster. Not sure if it happened there, but what you describe really sounds like eu-community.

Last night I asked in chat if anyone else wanted to help me clear The Wolf's Den bosses, only to have someone say I shouldn't need help and they cleared all bosses solo with damaged equipment and should learn to play. Don't be a jerk or a troll. If you see someone ask for help, either help them or ignore it. Other players helped, and the community as a whole has been great, but there is always someone who seems to think that game accomplishments mean anything. It's a huge turnoff for casual gamers, which you need to give the game commercial viability. Don't be "that guy".
ya ill bet that guys is the same guy that rage quits when you don't kill the bosses first shot in COH (i might add he didn't have the clear achievement but the rest of us did lol) yes all MMO's suffer from this , they certainly know it all but when you get them in a group.... they suck parts of a donkey we are no allowed to say per ZOS TOS agreement. If you need help on the NA server contact my @ name we have a friendly helpful PVE guild your welcome to join us anytime.

If you were in EP and we were both in the same zone chat I totally would have helped you out! I've given players help, advice and even some cold hard cash. Unfortunately when you're VR12 you're not often in the lower level zones and there's no "help" chat to see all the help requests even when you're in different zones. I see a bunch of trolls in zone chat all the time unfortunately

Disregard them. Their abuse is about their own "stuff", not about you - don't get involved in their head-trip.

If you need help, you need help. The ESO community is mostly quite helpful. Sorry that you had a bad experience.

I'll try and help people when ever I can. I found if I go help people with their world boss/dolman, often we'll group up and they'll help if my stuff.

I've pretty much stopped asking for help. When I had tried and failed at Wayrest Sewers (just couldn't get past Garron) I asked for help, but just got "It's a low level dungeon". As if to say it's really easy stupid what hell is wrong with you!
Some of the bosses in Wayrest Sewers are ridiculously difficult for their level. My friend and I decided to catch up on dungeons that we'd missed doing due to inability to find a group at the time, and ran through some first and second tier dungeons as a group of two at level 42 and 43. We died so many times in Wayrest Sewers that I ended up leaving my friend there to keep our instance, and teleporting out to fix my armour and make a load more potions!

All I know is if I see an LFG on a Public or Group Dungeon, I come running, once I am done with what I am doing at the moment. I may PUG with the person who sent out the LFG, but I will with the others who show up.
Problem with the LFG built into the game is that it assumes you are the correct level for the dungeon. If you try to put out an LFG for Elden Root at level 28, it won't let you. It'll automatically put you into the third tier dungeons, even if you haven't finished the second tier. So annoying!

When I first started out playing I asked a few simple questions. Personally I play mostly complex sandbox mmorpgs, and asking questions is reasonable. I get that with most mmorpgs you have to be brain dead and stoned to not get most the stuff....and therefore people are aggressive and angry when you have the nerve to ask something.

Regardless my first few questions asked in game resulted in at least 5 people picking a fight, getting extremely upset that I had the gall to ask some question in their chat or something. After all the arguing someone always pmed me the answer, after enduring several minuets of pointless insults ect....pmed me perhaps because they were afraid to help someone publicly?

Yeah its what I remember themepark mmorpgs to be like so I get it...Its silly though...most of the questions asked in game can be answered in a shorter amount of time and effort than berating them and starting a fight, and helping people helps people stay in game.

I mean this isn't a free game where people can camp chat to dive players away because its free to do so...so im assuming these people are interested enough in the game to pay for it....so why not just suck up that narcissistic ego and either help or stick the guy asking on ignore and continue on if its so damn enraging.

yet more reasons I don't bother with zone chat. If someone needs help, it seems silly to troll them.

Not everyone is a DK former emperor vampire wearing a dress and wielding a staff.

Funny enough. This is SO true^^

    I Have a VR12 NB,Sorc, and now i got a vr4DK.
To see what all the hype was.....I decided to make THE cheese build. 7light, destro/restro, dark elf, vampire.
And i must say. THIS combination is the MODERN DAY up,down,up,down, left, right, left, right,B,A,B,A,Select,Start code or ESO.(if you don't get the reference,u must have been born post-Late 90s-__-)

Anyways. I have never felt so powerful^^.
Like i go up to shadow groups and just start grinding. Don't even bother to ask for room. Cos even when i was vr1. I ALWAYS got xp^^. I get an AUTO INVITE later...cos the group knows whats up^^

Just sharing. There IS an easy mode to this game. Just up to you if you wanna use the "cheat code" or not^^

    Devlinne: VR12 NB
    Demonos: VR12 Sorc
    Devin Flames: VR12 DK
    Hellzanger: VR12 Templar

    Thats right. ALL CLASSES.

L2P, noob. My DK steamrolled it, so you can too.

Seriously though, I'd like to think I'm not that guy gal. I still have jerkish reactions sometimes, but they aren't intentional and well, I won't become all wise and mature overnight... Anyhow, once the zone chat was cleared of gold spam etc., I started using it again and took time to just chat, answer questions, jump all over the map to help people with dolmens or world bosses. It usually looks like a trade channel, but sometimes I'm lucky enough to get into a decent conversation.

So Cliff Clavin is now playing ESO?
I just realized I gave away how old I am with that one...
I have been online since the dial up days of Compuserve and Prodigy. It really hasn't changed much as far as communities. I would be in areas where most people shared information nicely, then there would always be a troll. For the most part, I think people want to help, but if someone does help, always say thanks.
I didn't realize the OP would get the response that it did. I was just hoping that maybe even one person could think before berating others in chat, but it has shown how most people will try to help those who ask. Like I've said, it is a good community overall.

This is Zone Chat, not the Group Finder Tool. I have used that exactly once. First it limits you to dungeons that are at your level only, and no one pays any attention to it.

I find all my groups in Zone Chat or by panhandling in front of a Dungeon.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

If anything, it has been my experience over the years that female gamers tend to be less judgmental and more helpful. It's usually been the young or just immature males, and that is only a percentage of them too, most people are pretty helpful.

Also, don't be the guy that no matter what someone is buying or selling, jump in and declare the pricing to be foul. If you try to sell a Daedric or Ancient Elf motif for 20k, someone will always scream its worth no more than 12k, period. Likewise if you try to buy one for 20k, at least someone will declare its worth 45k.

Not to be that guy, but I refuse to help people in the sub lv40 content, once you hit veteran rank, if you are worth half your weight in salt as a gamer, you can go back and solo all the content in those areas, which may not be the "right" answer, however I help those who need it, IE Craglorn, Vet Zones, Vet Dungeons, ETC

yes, I will do that when I see people feeding on unaware people because of patch changes. Still trying to move that garbage set and/or recipe for a ridicoulus price that is NOT valid anymore - oh how I love pointing out loud and clear that they are robbing a buyer and potentially saving an unaware buyer tons of gold. I don't like seeing people either overcharge or prey on ppl who are cluesless about pricing and that pricing is dependent on drop rate, so if that goes up, no ur lttle purple recipe is NOT wroth 250k anymore, sorry for you - consume it or suck it up. And actually, I find that being helpful, just not to 'that guy'!
