Note, the Craigslist/Classified Ad is something where people could list WTS or WTB seperately from Zone Chat, and it would be more persistant but not permanent, maybe only be up and active while your toon is up and active.

Zone chat works for commerce. At least, it kind of does. I've sold and bought things through it. It's hardly the most efficient way of doing things, though, and super unreliable. I'm in a couple of trading guilds now, so I don't ever really sell anything in zone chat anymore (pretty much only when I notice someone looking for something that I happen to have, or for a trait that I know). On rare occasions I'll see someone selling something in zone chat that I want, and I'll try to buy it. Mostly that works, but sometimes it'll already be gone by the time I hear back from them (or on rare occasions I won't hear back).

Of course, the flip side is that it's a little annoying to see the zone chat is always about 40% people selling/looking to buy things, about 30% LFG, about 10% guild recruitment, and about 10% other stuff. If the commerce was better, and if the group finder was better, then there would be a lot less static in the zone chat.

It can get annoying at times, such as when I post my WTS/WTB and it immediately gets pushed up as a dozen other posts appear, but overall it works a lot quicker to buy and sell than the Guild Stores.

I've had more luck with selling in /zone than I have finding a dungeon group.

I have an RP chat window that ignores /zone chat and /yells but does let in party chat, /say and /emotes. Mostly use it when in a dungeon, grouped with a friend or just tired of hearing general chat.

why not an auction house? I' m hoping for something like that to be added to the game.

I don't sell in Zone chat, but if I see someone posting a WTB for an item I have, I'll make their day by just giving them the item.

It's nice to be nice, and that's something that a few others on this forum and in the game should take note of.

I'd like a third "it works* voting option. For me it works for the most part, it can be hit or miss. Though usually I don't have to try hard or wait long.

However I do wish it wasn't so disruptive of the Zone chat. Especially when someone likes to pipe in and "call out" some players and the prices they're asking. Seriously, if you don't like the price, don't buy it. If the seller is asking a crazy price, they probably won't sell it anyway. No skin off my back. But it's really annoying watching other players in Zone chat bicker over it.

I have had pretty good luck with buying stuff but selling has been a little difficult. There does need to be some kind of centralized market system though.

I'm also in a few trading guilds and I mainly list crafting goods in the guild store and from time to time I sell set pieces in the zone chat. I think the key to selling in the zone chat is to know your prices, which was mentioned in an earlier comment, and to know when to sell your items.

Trade Chat is an idea with noble intentions. Unfortunately, the majority of sellers never use it because they know most players turn it off. So they continue to use Zone anyway because it's spamalicious.

I definitely disagree on this. If someone is looking for a ridiculous price for something, then calling them out is helpful - both for them (so that they'll actually be more likely to sell it) and for noobs who might get ripped off. Now bickering about it in zone chat is another story. All it takes is saying "2000 is way too high for a common motif - I usually see those going for 300-500 these days" and then move on. No need to continue the conversation past that.

Calling them out publicly in Zone chat will almost always turn heated. A private /tell would work better. New players don't need protection from getting ripped off, because if they're that new to the game then they don't have enough gold that losing it is any big deal. Or they couldn't afford it to begin with.

You're lying, The ignore list isn't that big, and as someone who does trials (Da funk, M4D) i can speak from experience in that you will be ignoring all the top players, because we ALL Sell and buy in zone chat. your gonna find endgame quite difficult.

I like the fact that is no AH and I have made many friends by trading in the zone chat and because of that friendship, I even join they active guilds before. I have no problem selling my wares (I try to keep my prices fair) or my services.

I don't mind linking in zone chat. Sometimes a person may want more info about an item. One chat window for everything is too much. I don't mind general chat and would use it to watch conversations and maybe participate. I am willing to help newbies out or make fun of someone's all pink armor set. Or just talk about the weather.

But as it is, it's impossible between buyers, sellers, and gold website spammers.

Personally, i see it as a great way to get my hands on specific stuff. Mostly crafting gear and motifs for me, I welcome those people who sell something im interested in, and if i have the gold, they will get a whisper from me pretty quickly.
