No, it's because magic users (mostly) can hold down block AND press instant attacks (or in the DKs case, instant attacks and a powerful instant heal) dealing out a ton of damage and mitigating incoming damage all at the same time with millisecond gaps in-between.
The OP is right.
It's the same kind of problem as animation cancelling and while all MMOs suffer balance problems (believe me Archeage is no difference balance wise) these problems are down to a broken and busted combat system and until it's fixed I just can't bring myself to take this game seriously.5 -

Its not even a DK trait... why are people so stupid with this?
the only boost to blocking unique to DK is a slight increase in the damage blocked, which maxes at a 10% boost total..
Everything else is part of the global weapon skill trees that anyone can use..
EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE reguardless of class, gear, race, can block while casting and bash. and ANYONE with a shield can get the bash damage boost passive, which does almost nothing as of the last nerf to it, unless you hit a casting target.I play every class in every situation. poodlemasterb16_ESO✭✭✭✭✭I rarely use it. I am very mobile and my Witch is a glass canon. I will block bosses, drains etc, but everything else dies so fast I don't block much. As a Vampire, it's much more useful to stun em' with Drain.
Being very mobile is part of why she gets away with it. Stuff loses track of her all the time. This is how she solos 8 man groups above her level ... reliably.
Facerolling Coldharbour at the moment. She did die yesterday, entirely my stupid fault, but she is bored by the whole thing. She uses Ultimates for fun and giggles 'cause she does not seem to need them. Pulls several sets, just to drop Bat Swarm on them. The Observer was especially pitiful.6 -

Agreed. For how long can a caster/staff user with no reductions and minimal stamina keep block up? Mine is gone in seconds. Casually pressing down block while casting will get you killed, just like you say. Need stamina for dodge, cc-breaks, real blocks and Immoveable (if you use it). Wont have any left it you keep blocking fluff dmg.
But I still think developers should start to consider bloody animation clipping and block/casting when they "balance" skill lines.
