I was once one of these people. Until the start of ESO in fact. And now I love it, though I still suck.

So why do I love it? A number of reasons:

    1. It's made me a much better, more effective PvE player. I quickly realized how crappy my build was in PvP against human players. After fine-tuning based on advice/vids/posts from PvPers I improved significantly in both PvP and PvE.

    2. It's much more satisfying to take down a human player vs an NPC, especially when the opponent is much higher ranked/leveled. It feels like more of a challenge - most NPCs are easy. Too easy IMHO.

    3. I quickly learned to put aside my anger at dying and simply chalk it up to experience. There is very, very little downside to dying in PvP - your armor doesn't degrade - so go there to practice (against other players). Not getting upset when killed by another player was the single biggest driver of my enjoyment in PvP. That coupled with the realization that you really will do better in PvP once you reach VR1 and beyond. Next time you PvP and die, I recommend you see the funny side of the death. I often laugh out loud when I'm face-stomped: I find it hilarious. And then just respawn and try again.

    4. Unlike PvE, PvP is unpredictable - due to the human element. Sure, the map is static, but the unpredictable nature of human interaction and ensuing battles makes it exciting. At least to me.

    ^^This
I was once also one of those 'PvP haters' due to some bad experiences waaay back in the 90's in Diablo. (Lol, yep, it scarred me for that long! :D )
So when I first got in TESO Beta, PvP was not very high on my list but I went to Cyrodiil anyway (more out of curiosity), got caught up in my first fort battle, died horribly and was so hooked I kept going back for more! :)

Even now, many months later, I still die horribly but not as often, so I think I'm improving. One thing I do know is that I'm having a lot of fun with PvP in this game, that I never thought I would have!

I very rarely get that. Mainly because my friend and I run around aimlessly in PvP (usually trying to find cool stuff off the beaten path not many will find, like the guy who has a skeleton as a wife).

Every so often we encounter a 1-3 people doing skyshards or the same as us and we battle. It's so much more fun than zerging and you actually feel you can see your build actually shows. When I'm sieging I honestly don't feel like I contribute to much, I'm an up close and personal build, and I can't just charge in to fight because I'll die so I'm left with spamming swallow soul.

Now now now, lets stop brown nosing zos and actually take a look at why PVP does suck.

    1. Crashing. Cyrodiil was created and is being run on a potato. People constantly crash in the middle of combat. (sorry fan boys this has been confirmed by zos that the client is trash. so no denying.) Nothing like having to miss out on thousands of alliance points ticks.

    2. Players not showing up on screen. happens all the time. again fan boys confirmed by zos.

    3. Unbreakable roots and stuns that are so incredibly exploited and abused I almost want to call guiness.

    4. lag. I love lag! doesn't everyone!

    5. unresponsive skills. I press a skill, nothing happens. I try to change weapons, nothing happens. its pure awesomeness.

    6. blocking while casting. I can't sprint and fire off weapons and skills but i can hold block and spam cast. good call zos. wonder what would happen if they disabled the action bars while you are blocking. The cry of outrage would break the forums.

    7. How about those god *** people who use up your camps and don't replace them? huh? huh? am I right?

You can't deny that this game's PVP has serious issues that are completely unacceptable and are a huge reason why (among many many other reasons) that people are walking away. 11 days left on my sub. going back to eve. Where real pvp'ers roam.

I love PvP, but I haven't always loved it. I didn't really start playing any PvP in my gaming career until about 2 years ago in Guild Wars 2. The reason I started PvP was because of the whole large army and castle conquering concept. I then learned just what made PvP so special in games like GW2 and ESO. Things are unpredictable.

In all my MMO history I had never realized how great unpredictability is. You have no idea how many people will pop up to kill you, what level they will be and how good they will be. The only thing you can do is react to it. Now in PvP you wont win every fight, but you wont loose them all either. Its the unpredictable nature of fighting another human in a game that makes it so much fun. No mobs wit the same two attacks, no bosses with predictable rotations. PvP is simply the ultimate challenge in any video game because it is always changing.

A wise man once told me: you learn the most from the fights you don't win.

You then go on to list a bunch of reasons you don't like the pvp here. None of them have anything to do with what the OP posted, which was basically pvpers are mean so I don't like pvp.

I guess since you didn't list personality disorders as one of the reasons pvp sucks, you actually agree with said brown noser. Which I guess is sort of amusing.

Good post. I think you hit on two important issues:
    • PvP can be a shock for PvE players when they start, and an unpleasant one. In PvE, you expect to win all your fights. In PvP, winning half of them is pretty good. The goalposts have moved quite dramatically.
    • Those losses are how you learn. If you have an instinct to re-examine just what the heck happened, you can often adjust something in your build or behavior. Oddly, many people who are excellent about this in endgame PvE somehow lose that mindset in PvP.
I'm another former PvE-only player who made the switch to PvP-primary. For me, that was a while back (Warhammer Online launch). I've enjoyed MMO's quite a bit more since :)

Story is in your head in pvp. It is live action not where I go into detail. 20 ppl group up to siege a keep. Leader of the group (officer) tells you to siege the north wall and hold before going in. He gives you commands as in 30 secs we charge in team 1/2 go left, 3/4 go right, and team 5 clear inner keep court yard. Teams 1 and 3 set up siege after clearing walls. This is an example of big group pvp. What do you play? Solo? Watching mass amount of siege engines hitting a keep. Right out of a dam movie. Saying it has nothing you are blind to the fact it has more story than you know. Actions speaks loader than words.

I don't know your faction but mine is great.our empire gives orders and speeches of war. You say no story when the players say long live the emperor. We held the emperor for almost a week being out number 3 to 1. If that is not a story then I don't what is.

Hahahaha I'm not sure if you are confused or if the read was just a little to much for you. Who is he brown nosing? ZOS. thats who. his post states "Until the start of ESO in fact. So how a discussion usually works is there is a "topic" and then you "discuss" your opinion of said "topic." The topic here for this thread is "the official I hate pvp thread" So naturally ( I'm hoping ) you can see why me responding to the thread topic with reasons why "I hate pvp" is valid.

    You are trying to hard.

The op aliendiplomat as you correctly noted writes i dislike pvp because people are mean.

Katkon as you correctly note writes i didnt like pvp because it use to make me anxious and nervous so i thought everyone was mean. Until i started playing eso, then I changed my attitude.

The part of pvp katkon didnt enjoy was because of his attitude. He isnt singing the praises of Eso he is simply stating that when he started eso he adjusted his attitude and is having more fun.

All the points he makes are generic and can be true in almost any pvp setting.

But keep the hate alive, well i guess in 10 days now keep the hate alive in eve at any rate.

    THANK YOU!
In every last single MMORPG that I have tried it has been a constant relentless cancer upon game content..
ENDLESS *itchig about unbalanced this and that...
    ENDLESS removal of content..
ALL to encompass some **** pvpers.

I loath PVP to a point of agony.
I am sick of seeing it wreck games...
Undoubtably we have only 5 actions slots due to it.

And these letters are all in vain for the fracking flawed statistics all so readily point out that people like pvp... NOT THAT PVP game balancing bleeds out PVE content!

I'm afraid the problem with this willingness to adapt and learn is directly due to the combat system in this game not allowing it.

In other games I could have DOZENS of abilities on my bar, and "adapt" on the fly by using whichever were appropriate to the encounter. In this game, I am locked into 5 abilities per bar, and cannot change them unless out of combat.

Also, completely changing your build to negate one ability leaves you in the same boat. The next encounter is completely different, but you are still in combat until the entire siege/skirmish/resource attack/healing ticks/nearby squirrels has ended and you are finally out of combat to change your setup again.

This makes PVP in this game completely stupid IMO. No adaptability, no intelligent play, just create entire builds to counter one class's ability and die to the next class. Pick your cards before going into a fight, and die to whatever class you encounter that negates it because this game doesn't let you adapt.

This is why arena-style PVP could never work in this game. Balance is impossible with this current combat-locked implementation of the 5-skill bar system.
