Most of the hackers are now using Z-Plane hacks. You won't ever see them. You will hear them plinking on the ore or wood, but not see them. They are below ground. You know they have been there when you find 'empty' resource nodes. Ones that vanish when you try to harvest them.
    e
I was wondering what the heck happened when the resource vanished in front of me right when I was about to harvest it!
This can also be phasing bugs, the only places I have seen this lately is in towns while disappearing resources was far more common on lower levels.

Add that underground bots are easy to catch, just being underground is prof of hacking so you can ban without looking for bot behavior.
yes they exist but phasing bugs is probably more common.

The reason its not that easy:

The server gets player location information from the client.

Client tells the server its in a certain spot.

    Server believes client.

Server isnt designed to handle player movement. Too much load. This was a bad practice.

Hackers feed false location info into memory so the server thinks youre in a legitimate location but you actually arent.

Hard to detect and ban that when they don't even process the information server side.
True, server don't handle player movement in detail, it just check it, checking player position then harvesting an node has to be done anyway, if player is below the node then harvesting he has a problem, yes you can surface and then go down again so you check position 1 second before and after.

You also have other zones you check, might also want to do rolling checks on players for this sort of things.
Pretty much how you do traffic controls, and combination of speed traps and random controls along the road.

Catching normal boting is far harder at least then done by normal players who farm with bot some hour each day but also play normally usually on the same character.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

I don't know if they actually nerfed the the spawn rates of some flowers but I think that the problem is partially of our own making (including myself). Let me explain.

Ever since I maxed my alchemy, I've been somewhat selective on the flowers I pick up. Especially when questing and with a semi full inventory, I only gather certain flowers (yes, Columbine, Mountain Flower and Bugloss, I'm talking about you).

So, imagine an area that has 10 flower spawn points and columbine is on the spawn list with 30% chance. At first, let's say 3/10 are columbines. If I only pick them and not the others, when those 3 points respawn, we end up with 1 columbine. If I pick that one on my way back to the quest giver, there are no columbines left.

Edit: The problem was less apparent a month ago, because when we where leveling our alchemy, me and lots of others, gathered everything. /Edit.

I know there are dedicated people that gather everything but if you happen to farm besides me, I'm the one who drops the chances.

Maybe we need dedicated crafting material bags and bank spaces.
Make some sense, depending on if the node resets or just respawn as you say. Might be smart to pick all and dump in guild bank for other who level alchemy.

Was on two different starter islands today, and couldn't find a bot anywhere. Moreover, resources were all over the place.

I've seen that several times in the past few weeks, and it's always followed by days of mats and nodes being stripped bare.

I assume it's got a lot to do with Zeni stealth-purging bots which lasts a few hours until the botters figure out a way around the new restrictions. And then it's back to business as usual.

OTOH, I noticed that many areas have nothing but Luminous Russula and nodes of just worms, which appears to indicate that the bots have preferences, and leave us the trash that tastes bad.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

I have this feeling the bots not only teleport but they fly away with them with super speed.

The bot problem in this mmo is just killing me!

Because the brilliance of Zenimax "megaserver" was to allow the client to make the decisions. So ESO is bot heaven, I mean its not even hard to massively abuse.

I really want them to put this in.

BUT, knowing Zenimax,i think that feature might be too expensive for them. They spent over $200 million on developing this game already. I doubt they have the funds for this feature.(Sarcasm)

Okay whether it's bots or not, ZOS idea for a megaserver that runs almost always without lag in PVE and with so many things going on in the world, it's actually amazing. I'd rather them find better ways to deal with bots and am happy that they have such a server setup. Maybe have characters randomly generate keys that sends the information and if the code doesn't match, ban (or at the very least flag and investigate). Then change the formula every few days. I am not a programmer, however I do have several friends in a guild that are and whom insist it's entirely possible --- which makes a lot of sense to me as well being highly computer proficient.

I'm on the EU server and I have been ok for alchemy bits over the last week. Not plenty of everything as usual but just enough to get by. I'd always like to see more of all consumables - plants and decent ingredients.

@ViciousWayz, this worn out thread needed necroing .. why?

I get a steady stream of plant nodes of all kinds when I go to the appropriate areas, have done forever. Bots rarely go for these nodes as there were too many different mats, they hoover up cloth, wood and ore because in any zone there are only 1 or two types of each.

I do see the occasional 'legit' player clearly botting this stuff but I don't think I've ever seen a level 2/3 bot do so.

I find them all the time, got a few stacks of them. (And bots don't really pick up alchemy mats that I've ever seen, those that are even left).

OP: Well, it is one of the most popular herbs in the game. Due to 'horrible planning' with the devs making the herbs, there are only a few useful ones and columbine is one of the big two - or three depending upon who you talk to.

Anyone botting is not "legit". Also, if a necro'd thread bothers you, why even reply.. skip over it.. simple @fromtesonlineb16_ESO‌ Common sense is a very rare trait these days. :grinning:
