Guild Bank - People Opinion

So I joined a guild, havent done that on an MMO in a long time, but here with these rules, Ill try it. So the first one I join is no access to guild bank. Members cannot deposit or withdraw.

That sort of seems like to me that some joe started a guild so they could get themselves access to a big bank account AND a store, ect.

Is this normal in most guilds?

I understand the guildmasters concern that people could empty it out and sell selfishly with no way of controlling it, but I guess thats not good enough. Being in a guild everyone should have access, and the guildmaster, wanting to be one, needs to do the work, otherwise, be a member!

I need opinions on this one. Are all guilds like this??

Thank you

All members have access to the store. Not all members should have access to the bank. All it takes is one jackwagon to ruin it for everyone.

every guild that has any sense only has bank open to trusted officers, else they want to get robbed. people in mmo's are [snip] thieves.

yes, all the guilds I belong to are like this but that's okay with me, I'm only in it for the store.

    Yup.. those settings are nice.

However there can be some adjustments IMO.. Such as a split bank for member ranks. This would allow new members to have additional bank space upon joining, but with a risk. However still a reason to gain ranks, get the know the members, and finally share a bank space with them once you are trusted.

Agreed, there are so many people online that wouldn't give a wink to empty your bank. I would in a Guild set up several trusted officers with access to withdraw and all to see the content.

You may ask for something that you need and in this way control what is leaving the treasury. But in your situation, if there are no officers to ask or the count of members are around 10... the odds are you are in someone's "private" guild so that they can have mucho storage.

There are enough new invitees who jump ship <1 min after they joined and saw that the trade guild bank is not open to all to make me believe you should not open banks to everyone....at least in a 500 strong trade/crafting guild.

Having said that, our bank was initially open but a couple of members tried to take advantage of a duping bug that happened early in game and fortunately the leader spotted it in time and closed the bank down completely for the longest time. Now it is open to officers, but I have never personally used it.

Banking needs some tools for sure.

As it is you need sub guilds and banks for different guild purposes/ranks if you wanted to still open things up for newer members.

I don't think anyone with an ounce of MMO xp is silly enough to just give full access to any John Doe.

You need to be picky about who you let in your guild. Guilds that spam zone and invite people all willy nilly deserve to have their banks raided. That being said, you're not in a real guild if your GM is the only one using the bank. You're just helping him retain enough members to be able to use it. You're better off joining a guild with restrictions on who it lets in, that trusts and builds relationships with its members.

To play the devils advocate, how much "trust" can one really have for a person they only know online?

I like the idea of an open-for-all resource, but unfortunately there are just too many *** out there. I'm in a guild that was robbed 3 times in the same week. Twice by the same guy (or gal, for all I know. Do you really know the gender of all your guildmates?)

I'm hoping beyond hope that withdrawal restrictions are incorporated, and soon. A guild leader should be able to specify that a general recruit can take x amount of things from the bank on a given day.

Sadly, I think the *** would abuse that system as well, putting us right back to square one.....

I created a guild with now above 200 members and i let everyone use the guildbank. It is a nice overflow place for stuff we would otherwise just destroy and it helps with shuffling mats between alts when the personal bank is full.

In EQ you could flag items to only be withdrawn by certain ranks or even specific people. A more dynamic guild bank would be nice.

I do have a guild with a low pop that I use solely for storage. Generally, if your guild is 10-15 members and no one but one person has access to the bank, they are probably using it for storage, but if it's a good guild so what.

I have been in multiple guilds where people that got access cleaned the guild bank out as well.

In a small, social guild where you know and trust everyone, it's possible to keep the bank open. But if you have a guild with >400 members, how can you know your newest member won't clear the bank and run?

The big guilds I'm in keep the bank semi-open: all members can deposit, but only officers can withdraw. It seems to work fine. However, we definitely need more complex bank privilege options, maybe a limit on daily withdrawals based on rank or something.

1 out of the 4 guilds I am in is like this (well they do let you deposit but not withdraw). The only reason the other three are not is because they formed on the PTS before live. Two of which are very exclusive guilds.

I think that once guild masters have the ability to set a limit on bank withdrawals, you will see more guilds give their members withdrawal privileges. The only reason you don't have it now is because they can't control how much is removed at a time.

Our bank is open for "regular" members and up, but new members (people that have just been invited) don't get access to the bank (depositing or withdrawing, 'cause it seems like a jerk move to give them a right to deposit but not withdraw) until they prove they're going to stick around and be a participant in the guild.

With this setting I haven't' had any issues with members clearing the bank. Yes, people are withdrawing/depositing often, usually crafting material (and then they often deposit crafted items back in the bank). But our guild is small, barely 50 members.

When we have more bank control options and more members, things may change. But I don't think we'll see withdraw privileges for new recruits ever. That's just asking for trouble.

I don't think of it as a jerk move to allow people to deposit but not withdraw. This option allows new guild members to contribute to the resource, and if they want something from the bank all they need to do is ask someone with permission to withdraw to get it for them.

What I've found is that people are more willing to put things of actual use or value in the bank, now that it is more secure. Before, all that was in there were racial stones, low level crafting mats, low level potions. Now we have aspect stones, blue weps and armors, and other actually useful things going in.

I belong to a large guild where its open to all members; if members abuse the priviledge they get booted from the guild. Granted not a lot of really valuable sutff gets put there. But people put excess mats, traits, random equipment, lockpicks, recipes, etc get put there.

it just takes one person breaking the rules to clear anything of value out of the bank. They will usually quit the guild for you after, you won't even need to boot.

I have just recently been invited to my 4th guild attempt. Started out refreshing, but after about a week, seems to be like all the other ones I join. Being new to MMO, I really feel limited on my fighting abilities and mechanics. Not to mention that I am more of just push the buttons and click kind of guy. I am not a leader, but a great follower. With that being said, I really enjoy the crafting and want to share it with the world. Between two characters, with each doing 3 crafts, I have maxed out Alchemy, Provisioning, and wood working. Enchanting is at 32 and I am making v12 cloth and metal. Doing very well with traits and can now craft a few 8 trait sets.
In real life, I am a lab tech because I enjoy the supporting role. It comes second nature on ESO to be a support guy. I want to support my guild, the guild bank, individuals when needed, but here is where it becomes ehh.
I make food. I sell some of the food to the vendor, I save some to put in the guild bank. I don't just put any food in there, I put in level 45, 50, all blue and I put them in there at stacks of 20. The way I see it, anyone with common sense and a need for that food, would take out a stack of 20, split off 4 or 5, and put the rest back in there. Nooo, instead, some level 25 player goes in and takes out 4 stacks of 20 food items that he or she cant even use, and poof, all your work and dedication to help build a guild bank is blown away. Lucky for me, I just did that as a test to see if the food would stay there. Although I am once again, new to a guild, and need to give it a little more time. I refuse to make powerful potions and or create food to donate to a guild bank that is open to everyone. My belief for a guild bank is that anytime you take something out, you put something back that is equal or better. Once in awhile an exception is fine. After all, we are in their to help each other. But should we not also be helping the guild as a whole, as one? When I go into pvp, I want my war leaders to have a bank full of powerful potions to help lead the way, potions for our healers to be crazy on magic, ect... When we first meet up and group in pvp, I want someone to be able to deal out food buffs for who need one. I Personally believe the guild bank should be monitored and open to a select group. New members wanting access can ask for stuff, and or you can create an oath for that person to promise to always give back a little more than they took, if possible. If it is not possible, then explain. I bet most of the successful guilds in all of MMO, have someone with an eye on the bank at all times.

generally speaking, if the guild bank is open to everyone, don't put anything of worth in there unless you don't care who gets it.

Also if I saw a stack of 20 food I needed, I would take all 20 because you burn through them fairly fast. Same with potions, I have over 300 triple heal pots on me atm, and I regularly keep buying columbine because I can go through 50 of those in one long sitting of pvp (I need to change my drink potion key, it is still the right handed key and I pretty much have to stop everything to move my hand from the mouse to press it)

I have two guilds I care about right now, my all female guild, and my pvp guild. The all female guild bank is ffa, (because the work of babysitting the bank logs isn't really that much fun,) and the pvp guild is for all full members. The second one gets a lot of useful stuff, and I've been actively encouraged to take whatever I want. I do this, but since racial motifs and blue recipes are the things I can give back, and they don't seem to get used, it makes me kind of sad. So I just craft stuff if people need it and I am able.

I don't really feel like the guild bank would be a sticking point for me one way or the other. Either I don't have access to it or I do. I have a guild bank I use to hoard things already.

Guilds just need to give me things to do and people to group with. That's what a guild is about imo.

That sort of rambled halfway through there but I got to my point eventually.

In all 5 guilds i belong to, new members have no (withdraw) access to the bank until they're promoted by an officer.

They all have some sort of grace period until a new member is allowed to take stuff from the bank.

How about a banking transaction history that is visible to all guild members?

Couple that with the ability to limit how many items can be withdrawn based on guild rank and I think you might have something that would more or less self-manage.
