Dunno , but i would not get so annoyed by it.

People like to create terms and try to say all the players at that side are like X , but that is not how it works.

Im sure you can find other RP guilds that would have welcome you just fine, you were just unlucky.

This is ironic because you are constantly lumping all pvpers together as griefers or exploiters.

And that just proves you do not read many of my posts , i already also stated quite clearly that i dont believe all PvP players are griefers , the problem is for example , you could be considered a griefer in many cases , even if you dont think that is what you are doing.

If there is a PvE player doing quests , and you kill him just because you can (which you already said is something you would do , not because you want to do him harm , but because you like to kill every enemy player you can and you dont think dying is an issue) , that may cause that player grief, because to him dying IS and issue and he really gets really annoyed that another player made him lose time, gold...

Ofc , that is going around the big issue that is players that actually want to grief others by killing them ...

Like i said also multiple times , i have nothing against PvP players that want to bash at each other. When they start to want to hunt PvE players that dont want to PvP at all i see an issue.

none of that would actually make me a griefer though. Griefing takes continuous effort and not just one instance. It requires far more dedication than killing people as you see them so thinking you are griefed does not necessarily mean you are.

Anyway, this is a derail but I will concede that while I disagree with you, I see the difference in what you are saying as opposed to sweeping generalizations.

in MUDs they call it MUDsexing. When I first heard people mockingly throwing this term around I didn't want to say anything, but was perplexed as to why they all put so much thought into the idea of people having sex in mud...

So... you were ignored? That's it? Sorry, I can't help but point out that we are only hearing half the story here.

My guess would be if they went to the trouble of putting you on ignore, then you probably weren't exactly "open" to the idea of role-playing anyway.

Ive been part of elitist raid guilds and pvp guilds but neither have ever treated me with such disrespect as the role players I encountered on Daggerfall a few nights ago. I thought you Rper's were cool and casual and had fun but man was I wrong. I was so messed up by the whole incident that I have zero desire to ever attempt roleplaying ingame again.

So I ended up at this tavern in some town I cant remember to get I don't know what and found about 9 players inside mingling with npcs and talking very formally and rp-like. I listened in for a bit while leaning back against a wall *emote. They were talking about alchohol and playing drinking games and this.....made me excited to want to join! So I googled "how to roleplay in videogames" and did a quick crash course read-up, then back to game and waited for a good opportunity to get into the action. There was no action! They acted like I was invisible, I got more play from an npc encounter I swear!

I approached the group playing drinking games first (they were split into 2 groups) and said "mind if I join in? I just arrived from a grueling experience and could use a drink with some friendly faces". .....no answer....2,3,4,5 minutes pass. So respectfully I accepted that they may be deeply involved in their....drinking game rp so I go over to the bar where the other group is any say hello to 2 females having fun rping. So im thinking, hey alchohol, fun women, lets do this......2,3,4,5 minutes later still ignored. Then I realized the terrible truth....they all ignore listed me!

Yeah, that's my rp experience in eso. No pm from them saying "hey we are doing our own thing but if you are interested heres our website" OR..... "hey sorry but this is an exclusive event" OR EVEN.... "hey we just don't [snip] like redguards so [snip] here please". Nope...none of that. Instead I was talking in a room full of people that didn't even give me a chance to play with them. How do I know they all ignore listed me? Because I messaged every single one and it didn't let me.

And do I care that I dropped a Nova Ultimate on their faces on my way out? No, little rp elitist, I didn't really-really want to play with them anyway. : *(

[Moderator Note: Edited per our rules on Cursing & Profanity]

SO I will just say, I'm not an elitist by any means BUT I do play with most of the chat elements disabled.

In essence if you /s, /z, /y, etc I would not see that you were trying to interact with me. I do this because I don't want to be bothered or interrupted.

I have another tab that displays everything except /zone.
I have a third tab that displays only /zone, whispers and group chat.

Just assume that during their RP session, they have certain elements blocked. Don't take it personal.

oh god. Especially if it's people LARPing anything by white wolf.

Even the social rejects that fill the ranks of table top roleplayers can look down on -somebody-.

Do you think they were all in a voice chat? Or maybe group chat? So they basically didn't see your interactions? They can also turn off zone chat...so possibly the chat channel you were using didn't even show up?

Some thoughts based on interactions in other games, the reaction of people attempting to roleplay can vary based on whether the name of the character simply screams "I have no interest in being an organic part of the game world", and whether the character is wearing clothes.

Im going to be the better player here and move forward and hope that I don't encounter these Rp elitist types ever again. I guess I may have come off as too excited and willing..... and considering most of them had women names, id guess they thought I was some kinda creeper perv. It didn't help that I had no pants on, but that was only because of an addon bug with wykkids outfitter.

Sorry to hear you had that type of experience. I would say that your opinion prior to this was pretty true for the most part. I know any group I would RP with either would have let you in on the fun or at least would have said something as to why they didn't let you join in. I do hope that in the future you get a chance to take part in RP with a good group of players and not like those ass hat milk drinkers.

I have seen inclusive and exclusive RPers in ESO.

My orc has an orc like name and isn't Iluvyermum, and pepemcgee etc. so half the time I'm cooking Someone will talk to me (or if I'm in Nord lands... drink at me). Orc in the EP isn't the most popular character.

Maybe 2 months ago I was cooking in the Rift (I think I was doing pub dungeon bosses and ran out of food) and minding my own business, and had several people demanding that I leave the inn in whispers because I was interrupting their RP thingie.... not in character or anything (in character anti-orc stuff is fine with me)... player whispers. I was cooking...no emotes, no typing of any kind... just making 20 or so items.

One of the people in the inn was a RL friend of mine and she was totally embarrassed when I told her they were trying to kick me out of a public space.

I really don't see what the big deal is. They ignored you. That's it. They weren't abusive or said anything nasty. They just apparently didn't want to play with you. Sure it would have been nice if they had at least acknowledged you and said something but again, not a big deal.

I hope it doesn't discourage you from trying to RP or interact with other players though as there are still plenty of players that would buy you a cold one.

All of my characters, as you can see from my signature, have RP names. While I haven't had a chance to really play my Pact Kajiit much I'm really looking forward to some RP hostility... so her Nordic upbringing can come out!

When I see irregular races in a faction and their name is more Lore-based and less 'Peepeepants', I actively seek them out.

In their own way video game roleplayers are more elitist than the most hardcore raid guild. In my experience they take roleplaying very seriously, are offended very easily, and are very cliquey. I would suggest approaching them with OOC comments next time to gauge their receptiveness to your joining in.

I find RP a little weird in video games to be honest, kind of like trying to 'read' a movie. But each to their own, I just try and stay out of their way.

I can't imagine that RP is any different to any other part of the game. I spent ages in Cyrodiil looking for a group the other day. In the end I just ended up on my own running dungeons collecting Skyshards and don't even get me started on Dungeons.

The population of ESO is much more unfriendly than other games I have played, being someone that came on my own I noticed. I blame the guild system if I'm honest and the lack of any faction loyalty.

I find just the opposite. When I do happen across someone that's not friendly it's all the more noticeable for being the exception that proofs the rule. Public Dungeons have provided hugely entertaining and positive interactions. It's rare to happen across someone who's a complete Chapeau du Derrier.

Granted, the fragmentation that comes with multiple guilds is a bit annoying.

There is a lot of jaded role players out there who think they have to have flawless grammar and all role play their characters as if they have some ivy league education and its a very clicky social club. These people tend to be social outcasts with weird fetishes and enjoy the flirting more than actual fantasy role play. who only really get along with a particular type of person. Anything from outside their circle is almost completely ignored.

You'll probably have better luck joining an RP guild specifically and meeting up for guild functions. I'd imagine the trolling they deal with makes them hesitant to interact with spontaneous rp.

Spontaneous RP is the only RP that counts in my opinion.

If you have to set up playdates for your rp, you are doing it wrong.

Spontaneous RP is some of the best RP I have ever had. Too bad for them for not at least responding to you IC and telling you off or something. I would have been ok with an IC or OOC response.

I am getting my characters together to RP. I love to RP and though it may be a rocky start with someone you don't know at times....it can end up being the best. I used to have a Draeni on WoW that would go to the mailbox and pull out bombs, wagging her tail and having one poof on her, making her smell a bit like sulfur and have it all over her face. Got the best RP reactions on that and the start of RP.

There are arsehats in everything. Don't troll them, ignore them. They are no longer worth your thoughts. It is their loss.

Feel free to PM here or whisper me anytime. I have characters all over NA and plan to get a few on EU also!!

Only it is sort of a big deal, seeing as it obviously did discourage the OP and he has mentioned that he doesn't want to try again. First impressions are key in a lot of things, and it's very discouraging if you see something that you weren't previously interested in, but it seems like fun and you want to join in for a change, to then have that entire group put you on ignore for no reason. Obviously not all roleplayers are like that, but it certainly doesn't make us look good.

Had it been a decent group of roleplayers, the OP might have had a lot of fun and might have given RP a genuine go. If your very first experience is this negative, it doesn't give a lot of incentive to try again and it often makes people not want to bother.

However, I do encourage the OP to give it another go, because roleplay can be very fun if you find the right people. I'm really sorry that you had this negative experience, but we're really not all like that. :)
