It's highly unrealistic to be riding the horse along the beach, be perfectly fine riding in water up to the horses knees, and within another step or two be ejected from a disappearing horse.
The horse and rider should easily be able to walk/wade through water half-way up the horses flanks, and slowly swim through deeper water if your horse isn't laden with armor and packs.
I don't think most people expect to swim away from shore, but seriously, a horse shouldn't disappear as water starts to pass it's knees. Thats just stupid.

It doesn't add much to the game. I prefer them adding character swimming with underwater zones. And it could actually work with spellcrafting (alteration school ) to make you breathe under water.
Please no. I actually like that you can't go underwater in this game. I know that I'm likely the overwhelming minority in this, but I have a very severe hydrophobia (well, virtual hydrophobia) and I start hyperventilating when underwater stuff comes along. I didn't finish a lot of content in a LOT of games because of underwater crap.
Yes, I know it's ridiculous, no I don't need you to tell me that.
And yes, I did complete a lot of content in other Elder Scroll games that required underwater moments...but...I had help...>.>

In other news, I got dismounted while going through a cave in the north of Rivenspire (between Northpoint and Doomcrag). That was unnecessary IMO; there was no valid reason to kick me off in there as it's part of the open overworld and a required part of the walking route.
