Should ESO Remove the Class System? Yes No, Other?

    Yes - Remove entirely
The introduction of spellcrafting renders all arguments against a classless system moot. The classes seem like a remnant from an earlier development stage, and they don't fit the rest of the character system.

We can only hope the devs also think like this.

Only 4 classes doesn't feed the usual altoholic MMO gamers. Even though I always play mostly only a main toon that I like the most, I wanna try different game styles and learn about whole new skill set, just for the fun of it. So yeah, please do add more classes, that would be fun!

I thought of removing all classes option at first, but since you have an option to change the trait lines I chose that option. I would still want to see classes, but only if I had more flexibility.

If they had structured the system so that you chose skill trees instead of a class, even if you were locked into those choices, I think it would have been much better for the game. At the very least it would have been reminiscent of the TES way of things, with the lock in being for the mmo side. Immagine the possibilities for alts with the mixing and matching.

Anyways, it looks like the spellcrafting system will render this all moot.
This one has an eloquent and well thought out response to tha... Ooh sweetroll!

The good point about a class-less system there is no class balancing issues. Beside that, it would allow "play as you want" statement become a reality ;-)

Wrong a removal of all classes would force all players to use the 10 best abilities in the game or GTFO for PVE and PVP. Classes help make certain individual skills exclusive and it is certainly the way it should be IMO.

In the long run.. the only part of the classes that will matter are the passives and any unique skills.... so a Sorcorer can use Bolt Escape.... a Templar has an insta-cast 1000+ heal.... Nightblade has a insta-Cloak... and a DragonKnight.. (well is basically just totally made up class) but i guess maybe talons....

Those elements should have never made their way into an Elder Scrolls (read: non class restricting) game.... but they are here...

So everyone can pick from the 4 MMO archetypes (very non-ESO which only has 3) and go from there....

Its only the people who have no MMO expierence at all,or dont play group content (IE pure soloist entitlment players), and Pure PVP'rs that thing this idea is good. not a Person with any Group end game expierence would think this is good, nor a group minded PVP'r. Classes are in MMO's because it makes for Community, group dynamics and end game mechanics. The onl way it would work is if you had limited Skill points and a hard no respec out of the original lines you picked. the people that want this want to build a god character that can do everything. thats simply lame BS.

I don't believe they wanted to create classes to limit players. With spellcrafting and hopefully its stamina counterpart being released sometime, classes will simply be a template on what you want to create your character.

Elderscrolls had more classes pre obvlivion , you could pick no class and try to build a chr but you kow what more often then not the dummies gimped themselves. If you played any of the other ES series you would know there were far more classes in ES . So your statements are completely wrong. the reason they started with this watered down Bull crap system of skill trees instead of hard classes was to dumb down the mechanics and resources for console development. Class systems are far better in games. and a very needed feature in MMo's

Rift really did this best imo. Themepark MMOs kind of need classes, but more diversity is good.

Conjuration, Illusionist, alteration .. should be available to all ...not class specific.
They choose these class sistem because they where afraid to launch the game with a True TES class sistem.

The thing I hate most, is that you have to use magicka even if you want to play a 100% warrior brute.
Never used magicka in any TES game (maybe a couple of restorations, but only on lower levels)

Agreed. In previous ES games most of my characters only used magic for healing and buffs. All damage was done via weapons. Still largely true for my characters in ESO (other than my summoner and dark priest.) Yeah, I know it probably gimps them with current combat mechanics, but hey. That's the way I like to play.

Sure it does, as long as you decide that the "classes" aren't actually classes.. I have a Paladin (2h templar) Ranger (Bow sorc) Summoner (Daedra summoning sorc), Rogue (duel wield nightblade), Dark Priest (resto staff nightblade), and my 1h&S DK. (not sure what would be a good "class" name for her yet.)

Add more skills/skill lines to the existing classes. I'd love to see a frost skill line for nightblades or sorcs.
    Main: Breton Nightblade "Shadow Cleric" (Sustained Damage/offhealer) 5L/2H - Resto + S&B
    Alt: Argonian Dragonknight (Stam DoTs/Tank) 5H/2M - S&B + Bow
Alt: Nord Templar Berserker (Rawr) 5M/2H - Dual Wield + Two Hander
Alt: Altmer Sorceror (Pewpew) 7L - Destro + Resto

I'm desperately confused. How would removing classes resolve the "Elder Staves Online" issue? Every class can already build for that and succeed with it, why would it be any different if everyone had access to every skill? Then there would just be one "sticks and skirts" build instead of four.

The class system mandates some variety and gives you basic matchup knowledge at a glance - oh hey, DK abilities, I've got a decent idea as to what skills he might use and can prepare for those.

And holy crap, the ability to customize a class in past games doesn't mean classes didn't exist. Even in the main character could step outside the box, every NPC was bound to the "rules" of their class just like we are in ESO.
    Thank Stendarr it’s Fredas.

The problem with making it completely class-less is everyone moves towards the same skill bars. At an absolute maximum it could be a fun experiment if everyone could pick 3 class lines. Shadow/Siphoning/Dark Magic could be fun...
    Main: Breton Nightblade "Shadow Cleric" (Sustained Damage/offhealer) 5L/2H - Resto + S&B

You just said you could make up your class and name it whatever... One of the best things about the series. That's what I mean by classless.

I've played countless hours of all the games since Morrowind and spent countless more making mods for them.

While Morrowind and Oblivion presented class names a player could pick that had higher starting values in certain skill lines, the class meant nothing else really. All players has access to all skills.
