Lockpicks

In every other TES title (and Fallout for that matter), I've gotten into the habit of buying all the lockpicks I come across, just so I was always on the safe side. Here in ESO, it seems I rarely snap a lockpick, and master locks are so rare, that I don't see me going through my cache anytime soon. I get bored from time to time and try the auto pick option to see if it's really the percentage it says (with little success there), which usually eats up a dozen or so lockpicks.

So was curious how many do people save? With the Thieves' Guild on the horizon, I worry they will be useful, so I don't want to ditch too many, but I'm sitting on close to 500 right now, and that's after giving away about 3 stacks.

I always have 100 lock picks on me and am destroying a ton of them. I hardly ever snap one and locks are incredibly easy, even the master ones.

Can't see more than 1 stack being useful

I just keep one stack. If I start to get low (meaning, around 75-80) I just run in a few buildings and get more.

I snap them more when I am tired or just not paying attention. I don't see a need for more than one stack.

    Same as Welka ^^

I always have 100 on me, and every day have to destroy extras because of all the extras I find in random chests/furniture.

This is an aspect of the game that I've become sorely disappointed in. Lockpicks are as common as dirt, as are 'Simple' chest. Even "Master" chests are pretty easy. Often, I'll pick a chest - and there will be another lockpick inside to boot.

Chests should be harder. Fewer "Simple" locks and more "intermediate" and "Master". locks. And lockpicks should be rarer.

    Just my opinion, tho.

Chest difficulty is based on your level and the area you are in. If you create a new character, and get someone to teleport you to Cold Harbour, every chest you see will be master or impossible.

I always find heaps and never seem to break them. So as soon as I get a stack of 100 I halve it and destroy 50 and just keep them on me and repeat. You don't need more than that.

Haven't found any masters in VR content. Or Coldharbour. I ran into one master lock back in The Rift at level 40. So this isn't necessarily true.

I keep 200 on me and deposit the excess in the guild bank. Because you just never know when you are going to need them all.

I know its not related, but I think the value of them, gold wise, makes no sense. buying from a merchant costs 9 each, yet when you sell them, they are worth ZERO gold???:(

I keep about 100 on each character which I assume is overkill. But what if free lockpicks are harder to come by once the Justice System is here? Just call me Mrs. Contingency.

Lock picking is a little too easy. And it's not the timer, it's the chances on breaking the pick that is not difficult at all.

    I have 8 'toons.
    6 of them have lockpicks.
1 lockpick takes up the same amount of room as 100.

All 6 maintain a stack of 100, whenever they break a few they pick up a few.

They completely failed when making the chests.

The picking difficulty is your character vs the zone.

    This makes no sense.

The XP is about the same regardless of the chest being picked.

    This makes no sense.

The loot inside seems to vary little from how difficult the chest it.

    Also makes no sense.

Every NPC is apparently a closet thief and has tons of lockpicks lying around their domicile.

There is so much they could do with chests and lock picks it actually boggles my mind.

I typically have a stack of 100 on each character and I put any extras I get into the bank until I have another stack of 100.. which will inevitably go on a future alt.

ZOS should make them worth 1g so they're not completely useless. I have 1 full stack on each of my alts, the rest either goes into the guild bank or gets destroyed.

There really shouldn't be *any* 0g items in this game ...

I keep every lock pick I come across, but I only keep about a stack on each of my toons.

Extras go into guild banks, or I flat out give them away in starter zones.

I've also sent them to developers of addons I enjoy. I mean, I send gold or something as well, but nothing says thanks like a lock pick.

I get a lot less of them now with the swords etc. in boxes. I actually got down to 80 the other day. (before random loot items in boxes I often had 200+, and would destroy the 2nd stack)

Completely agree with this. They are so easy I don't usually need mare than about 20-30 picks on me. Make them a tad harder and give some better loot for the extra effort.
