How long do you think the server migration will take?

And also moving the Data center is proof of it dying and going F2P.

Not sure if sarcasm or if you're serious. If you're latter, mind elaborating a bit more why it's supposed to be proof?

Why so pesimistic? I think it comes before.

Yes it seems like a proof of expansion to me. Why would you invest money in new hardware/building/staff if the game was dying?

Just letting you know now, don't expect to get in and play like nothing happened after the server is running. Lag, crashes and error are to be expected. So have a plan B for tonight as well...

I wonder if people could bet here and pay in game gold, a bit of gambling wouldn't hurt. Great idea.

Is that what's going on now? I'd expect it to take longer than expected rather than less so, but consider that most of Europe has very similar time zones why not do it overnight when it would inconvenience less people?

Ah come on, we are hardly inconvenienced.

And the tech people on EU side will already be working well into the late evening. You want them to work the early hours of the morning too?

It may not be possible, EU law may forbid working at night.

Do Europeans use AM and PM when referring to time? My understanding was that American civilians and a sprinkling of others are all who don't use 24-hour time.

No AM/PM in Portugal, but in informal writing and most conversations people will use the 12-hour system, with AM/PM given by context or by stating the period of the day, e.g. 7 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon, 9 at night. In formal writing you'd use 7h00, 16h00 and 21h00 respectively.

Doubt it. All EU countries surely accommodate companies that need to operate 24/7. But they also enforce increased pay for night time/overtime.

[EDIT]Thinks are looking good for us minority positive thinkers! Apparently they're on step 3 of 3 (quality assurance):
We're moving right along! We just completed step 2, and our QA Team has started their verification testing.
Hopefully they'll get it right at first try ;)

It's a shift based world and tech. support for many systems are 24/7. However since it's a subscription service and we've paid whether we're online or not, I don't suppose that there's much incentive for Zenimax to pay unsociable hours rates.

Assuming that the hardware is available is it a big job in terms of manpower? I think that I'd assumed that essentially the bulk of the operation was just a massive data transfer exercise with a bit of human oversight (I'm not a tech. guru).

    Lets see...

Going to be at least a couple of hours to remove cables and unrack the servers.

Then more to pack them securely and ship them to the port.

A few days on the boat?

Then get them to the new DC and unpacked.

    Rack and cable.

Realise they left the cables in the US, doh!

    Return flight to get cables.

    Power them on...

    Maybe 3 weeks?

I can see you crazy folk are all assuming they are just copying data to a new server farm!!

I can't believe I logged on 1 minute after the announcement went up and there were already 21 guild members online.

I wanted to be first *kicks ground*
