Switching over to light armor and one handed weapons

Currently My templar is level 22 (I take for ever to level, I just like exploring) and I am wearing heavy armour and use a two handed sword. I was thinking of levelling my light armour (current level is 4) and to do so I would switch to all light armour with a one handed sword and shield.
How affective would I be? Obvious my armour would go straight down, I am looking to be more glass cannon(y) then tanky.
Thoughts?

UnholyPerfection✭✭✭Not sure why you would use one handed and shield if you're trying to be a glass cannon. I'd say Destruction Staff or if you like melee Dual wield.

✭For leveling armor sub vet levels I always keep at least one of each armor type on so it gets leveled. 5/1/1 and I often put training traits on the two odd balls. This way you have lots of options available to you later on.

^This really is the best way, especially with the training traits. I also used training on my weapons for most of the non-Vet levels because it just seems to make them hyper level, which helps with trying out different weapons as well.On second thought, let's not go to the forums. ✭✭✭I use 5 light 2 medium and one hand and shield...but I'm a Nightblade.
My girlfriend is on 5 light 2 heavy with one hand and shield, she is a Templar.
It works great for both of us.
We use primarily class skills for everything; Shield provides an extra enchantment slot, which will be even more useful when the softcaps go up in 1.3.
Using two seperate hand slots, instead of only one weapon slot (ie: staff, two handers, bows) will also allow us to make use of better bonuses on the upgraded sets.
Shield will give you some added armour stat; it also makes it highly effective to block attacks (which mitigates some damage and stops CC effects completely).
You can hold down block and still use instant cast skills, that may be less help to you as a Templar though (I know my girlfriend uses Puncturing Sweep for damage combined with healing effect, but that has a cast time which inhibits block)"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. In this game, a Templar is whatever you want it to be.I saw some one posted about destruct staff ... personally I hate seeing temps with staves .... were not mages ... were hammer wielding guardians of the light ...
My Templar is a mage type, and he kicks major ass. Light armor with sword/shield is a great combo, you will have a ton of spell resist and also have fairly high armor if you morph puncture for it.

You can make any class any type of character you want and it will be viable for 95% of the game. If you really really want to run in elite dungeon groups, than you may not be able to dps as a Templar. But then again, Templars make the best healers, so there has to be a balance somewhere...

You can definitely tank and also offer support heals as a Templar, which is viable through the entire game. You might not set any speed records, with players doing this, though.1 -

I find my medium armor, 2H and bow, stamina Templar pretty fun in PVP.0 -

I use Two-Handed and Bow with 5 Medium 2 Light in PvP on my Nightblade. I still cap magicka, but still... the whole robe and staff only thing really doesn't apply to PvP the same way it does to PvE.
If we are talking about dueling, then having a resto staff as your secondary weapon is optimal, but for zerging or roaming or ganking, there are lots of viable options.

I tried 3/2/2 with my second character - always heavy torso, and light gloves and sash - moving the 3rd around when I change my gear, so the armor skills stay around the same level.
Currently level 22, with armor skills between 21 and 24, working fine
I'd advise to train them all - LA, MA, HA - because you probably don't know what you'll want to do in 30 levels, and also what the game balance will look like at that point.Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.
3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
- Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
- Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
- Add block penetration to 2H.0 -

Level light & medium.
Until VR1 I was like you. 7/7 Heavy, Sword, barely any other Templar abilities than healing.
The at VR1 (pre 1.2.3) was in for a shock. Tried many things. 3 months fast forward.
7/7 Light with Aedric Spear abilities and Shield. Or 5 LA / 2 MA with DW/2H and mix of Aedric Spear and Dawn Wrath.
And that is my setup for VR12 PVE and Cyrodiil. Qbar 2 has Resto staff, and tried Destro staff but didn't like it.0 -

Kcttocs✭✭✭I absolutely love playing my templar now that I leveled one hand and shield. I wear all light armor too. I was like you I started with heavy armor, but majik regen sucked bad, so I went all light armor and resto till vet level. Light armor and all the passives greatly mitigate majik damage you receive so you have to watch out for those archers and guys that throw those stars... those hurt.
Here is how I play my Templar with Sword and Board now...
1. Shield Charge- (uses stamina) knocks down your target-pick the archers or healers.
2. Immovable - (uses stamina) from heavy armor skills, don't need to wear any heavy for this and it gives great armor bonus as well as prevents stuns and knock backs.
3. Ransack - (uses Stamina)taunts, but also gives another armor bonus
4. Sweeping Jabs- to take out the mobs, because you cannot block while using this ability is why you use immovable above and you don't have to worry about being thrown in the are from someones heavy hit.
5. Situational, Usually a heal, peircing javelin if two healers are in the group or sun shield.
My Toon has zero stamina, but I try and take advantage of the stamina pool I get by default which helps me last longer with my majika.0
