Remove Former Emporer Perks/Buffs?

All for it. When the new server comes up, all former emp buffs and achieves should go away. The people who were homed to the active PvP servers, and earned their emp, will eventually get it again especially with the shorter campaigns. The losers who farmed it on empty servers don't deserve to keep it.

Better than the guy pulling all your LAN lines, which he probably should do as well anyways.

I'd like to know what other ways he plans to prevent farming for former emp, because simply raising the AP requirement is easily gotten around.

Well i think that only the Emperor should have the buff as if your dethroned it probably means your dead! Sorry to be prompt but it kinda how it was. It will stop all this farming lark on the quieter servers. All they should get is the title.

No, ZOS should review (if the data for it is stored - most likely not) the growth and circumstances of their road to emperorship to determine foul play. Otherwise they should just fix it and move on.

When I became emperor the first time my real goal was clear: I wanted those former emperor passives. I was the first emperor on a low populated server of my faction and the enemy certainly didnt make it easy for us. I knew the passives weren't actually that strong, they usually don't make a difference at all, but it was a way to at least strengthen my character.
And yet I had only a single day to enjoy the "real" emperorship until I lost all keeps and had to abdicate so the next one could be emperor once we got the keeps back... yes, that's right, for most of the people actively playing on my low populated server actually belonged to a guild trying to get the passives for all members. And I needed them to get them myself. So maybe you could say I was one of those emperor farmers. I don't mind.
With Celarus the emperor trading between the factions reached a new level and the ex-title became really laughable.

Now I really, really hope that emperor farming will end as quickly as possible. And it would be very nice if the players who didn't get it the "right" way (wether that implicates players like myself or not) would loose passives and title.
I wouldn't mind if all had to loose the passives so its not that desireable to farm emperor. And it would be totally okay if ZOS said I'd have to loose everything as well if that would make the title/skill line something special again.
However it is done, please get rid of emperor farming and get rid of ex-emperors who got their passives and title that way.

This is the major problem. It's like one person is crowned Emperor then wants to let everyone in their faction sit in the throne and try the crown on too. The perks are not all that powerful, but what it has done (and likely continue to do) has caused the Emperorship to become a total farce.

The entire concept is somewhat flawed.... In reality (and most fiction) an Emperor shares his/her title with no one and retains it until death. So "Former Emperor" = Dead Emperor. There aren't tons of former emperors (nor kings for that matter) running around a battlefield fighting with the troops.

It's become so abused that it really needs to be reworked. I suggest:
    • Move former emperor passives at the highest levels of the alliance war skill lines. (It's not as if an Emperor gains the throne without his/her legions)
    • Only reigning Emperor would have the actual Emperor buffs while in power.

When update 3 launches with the new AVA format they need to just do a clean slate and see where it goes from there. I saw too much flipping in Vol to ever think well of any emperor trading/farming however certain individuals want to call it.

As far as 'stepping aside' so someone else can get emperor? That's absurd. That's as absurd as that one school where the librarian tried to force this kid in a competitive reading program to 'step down' so 'other kids could have a shot at #1". Even worse, it's like asking the Packers or Broncos to not play as competitively to let some of the more obscure teams have a shot at the Super Bowl. No. If you want the number one spot, you better freaking earn it. You claw your way to the top legitimately, and if someone's ahead of you, you knock them off with superior skill and ability. None of this bullying the current lead to 'step aside' because you want the top spot for the sake of wanting it.

AVA is supposed to be built around competition. How else do you get those rare awesome Super Bowls with the underdog teams like the Saints or Seahawks? They got there because they worked their butts off to get that far. No less should be expected of anyone coveting Emperor.

I picked no. I PvP a lot and am not a former emperor but I think going after all former emperors is not something ZoS should ever do.

There have been many who have traded keeps and got emperor, but there have been many who have rightfully earned it.

ATM the Former Emperor tag means little to nothing. Before I would think twice about trying to solo one with such a tag. These days I find they are just as easy to kill as the next guy.

The Buffs are so low, they make as good as no impact to the Game.
If someone thinks he has to trade Emprer. Well I pity them, if they don't know what else to do with there time.

They are incentive enough for rampant Emperor Swapping. I'd say thats a significant impact to the game. Remove them or at least make it so title has to be held for 2 weeks strait or something before buffs become permanent feature.

    6) Former emperor buffs actually undermine Full emperor status. Emperors are expected to abdicate so that others can get the buff. If they don't they are made a pariah, disparaged, and excluded. So not only does it ruin the faction war, it actually ruins the role of Emperor altogether because one cannot enjoy Emperor without incurring the wrath of every Former emp farmer on the server.
.....How fair is it to reward a player at the top of the leader boards with a system that does nothing but make his own alliance hate him for enjoying?

I've seen this first hand and it's sickening. A player excels at the game and holds emperorship and is cursed at, ostracized and ridiculed because he won't abdicate the title to someone else.

Get rid of the perks. Make it have a really cool costume you can keep as a former emperor and leave it at that.

Of course. It's idiotic that they haven't removed it from the game, at least temporarily, until they identify the cheats (most are).

When I see the title I just assume "cheat" unless they're one of the names I know that earned it. That's a shame because there are some names from previous campaigns I don't know that would have earned it but, statistically speaking, I'm odds on to be correct.

When I saw a level 47 former Emperor the other day I knew this had gone beyond ridiculous.

I would think that the majority of people who got the former emp title legitimately would not mind a reset. (Once you've "really" worked to get it once, getting it a second time is probably not that much of a feat.)

I think emperor buffs should go as well. but former emp buffs definitely need to go. im honestly surprised people are that desperate for what is, in all honestly, a crappy buff. I AM NOT scared to take on a former emp,(and I suck) because its the same as fighting a "regular" player.

Exploiters aside, being an emperor requires a lot of playtime and is kind of an achievement. I'm glad there are those passive buffs even though I will never be the emperor. It makes it fun. Although I would also like having a special buff for my guild if the emperor is part of it.

I think all former Emporer passives should be removed. People can run around with the Former Emporer title all they want - these days few are impressed as they assume (as I do) that it wasn't "properly" earned.

To me, "Former Emporer" = "Cheater" - unfortunately. And I know it doesn't always apply, but that's what I associate with the title

kinda sucks for the ones that earned it.. but this is more about solving the problem of Emperor Farming than anything.. it's rampant even on the short duration server so I'm not sure the upcoming changes are going to solve it... Would be best just to tackle and eliminate the problem (former emperor buffs) at the root, rather than try to contain it...

Yes Please. I don't think the title/skill line has become what was intended. Watching emp swapping go on all day is a bit sad and changing the campaigns in the future won't fix the past abuse. Get rid of the former emp bonus, leave it as a title, and make a really good reward for being in the top ten at the end of a campaign for those players that rank well and would normally aim for the former emp bonus rotation.

I don't really care about the bonuses, but I hate the emperorship trading. Anything to stop that from happening would be welcome. I would probably remove both the title and the bonuses so that there would be absolutely no benefit from being an emperor for 2 seconds.

Now that I've thought on this a bit I think I have a solution that is fair and basically leaves the system in place.

    Make it so:

Only ONE Emperor per campaign can earn the persistent passives. The Emperor that holds the title longest earns the right to keep the passives.

Maybe even make is to he has to hold it longest and has to be emperor at campaign's end.

That will put some pep in their step and give incentive for people to fight on even if it is to dethrone the final sitting emperor.

This is the direction I would like to see as well. I want the emperor to be a point of leadership, as the name suggests, not a trading card as it is now.

Leadership is what makes a campaign thrive. The success of players in an MMO is typically due to strong leadership. So in a way the success of an MMO is also dependent on there being adequate leaders to carry players through the challenges. The Emperor system could be a brilliant opportunity to identify those leaders who could give direction to veteran and new players alike. Instead that opportunity is squandered by the former emperor system.

I would like to see the Emperor system move more toward a leadership position. I see great value and potential in allowing for a more broad leadership role in PvP.

The problem is while some traded for it some really worked for it.

IMO - the perks should be earnable through normal PvP so everybody can get them. It's not like the emperor got it on her/his own. I would make it like a normal skill line that opens at a certain alliance war level. Getting emp gives you all of them at once.

While we disagree on the first part I do believe that you have a nice solution. +1 to that.

I think that I have only seen one Emperor that wasn't a Farmer Emperor. Sadly, that campaign was demolished without notice during mid-campaign in May.

    It's ridiculous to reward has-beens.

Although desirable it really doesn't give you much. Getting rid of it would rightfully *** a huge portion of the pvp community that has worked very hard to get it, even if they haven't "yet". Have some respect for other people and at least think for a second that maybe everyones circumstances are NOT what your having visions of. Also if you'd like it then go get it like other have!

There's an Emperor that sits near a resource where people suicide and just hits them once with crushing shock. Gains full AP. Multiply that by the ridiculous waves of people that go through that resource to get to a camp further up... Wow, that's a lot of folks. That one player has not contributed to his alliance in any manner however he holds the top Emperor ranking on the leaderboards for his faction. One can say that folks shouldn't run carelessly into an enemy resource to port up to a forward camp... And I would agree but that is not an excuse for a poorly thought out ranking system.

Farmer Emperor is not a merit of skill and either the leaderboard ranking system needs to be reworked or the buff needs to be removed for Farmer Emperors. I still can't believe that the PvP Lead thought this would pass as an intelligent ranking system.
