Fixing Flaming Oil

Zenimax, please fix Flaming Oil so that it isn't used as an overpowered PB AOE ground attack weapon.

Currently oils are very strong because they are placed in small enclosed areas where people must run across. Because of their small footprint, many oils can be placed in a small amount of space. Oil often ends up being one of the highest damaging abilities on the battlefield. I'm not really sure this is the intent of how oils were intended to be used.

How to fix this:

Make its area of effect a downward pointing CONE AOE. This would have a very minimal AOE radius on a flat surface (like maybe the size of the oil pot itself) but as you gain elevation over enemies (like on a wall or tower), you have a larger hit circle.

Why don't the dev's just remove keep walls as well..?

Oil pots are currently the only defence that a small group can have against a large enemy force. Changing this means that only a large group can defend a keep.

This really is a learn to play issue, there are multiple skills, whether they be single player focused or group focused that can remove negative effects. It's not hard to completely avoid this problem

Oils are some of the fairest tools in Cyrodiil PvP.

    - You can see them from far even when they are inside buildings (because of the glow).
    - They can be killed fast with other siege weapons.
    - They are in a fixed position, it takes about 2 seconds to put them up and if a player putting an oil up gets attacked the action will be cancelled (and the oil will not appear).
    - Everyone can use oils (they are cheap).
    - The largest part of the damage oils do can be avoided with a skill that everyone can learn (Purge).
    - No matter the level or the gear of the character that uses an oil it will always have the same damage potential.
    - A group can easily run though an area with oils and take no damage at all thanks to heals, damage shield (stacking), and Purge.

If there is a problem it's that larger groups can keep standing in the area of effect of 4 oils or more and take no damage at all. Which kind of defeats the purpose of oils.

Same as the other prior two posters, I think the oil pots are fine. If you were to dump a real oil pot, the coverage on the ground would be the same regardless of the elevation.

    Just what I was thinking...

I think oils are fine as they are. They can be a pain when you're attacking but a gift when defending, especially with a small force against a zeurg. 1-2 people can hold back many times more until support arrives.

I see no reason to mess around and change oil as there are things that need a lot more attention in Cyrodiil.

If you would dump a real oil pot, it would make a slippery floor.

Boiling oil is dangerous when it is dumped on enemy heads, not when they step into it.
