Character slots and inventory management

This subject has surfaced many times and in many varying formats in these forums. Yet the issue seems not to be getting attention. It is an easy fix and one that would alleviate a lot of inventory manipulation eating into precious game time. There have been some good suggestions on these boards.

Selfishly I would like the opportunity to play some other characters from the very start of the game to re-experience the game. I enjoy ESO and that includes the beginning. The problem I have with that desire on my part is that three of my character slots are occupied by mules necessitated by inventory management for my crafting efforts. I have one character dedicated to one craft so the skill point drain early in the game is not so counter to combat skills. This makes resource inventory management a nightmare of cycling through all my characters allocating inventory about every two hours.

Any relief here would be great! But more character slots need to be added along with inventory relief. People that love this game enjoy starting new characters.

Thanks

Can I just ask how you manage your other characters and their inventory. Do you have one character for provisoning items, one for runes etc. I am about to create some alts to support my LVL 37 as I find that I have don't have the money for more bank space or a bigger bag.
How does it work using alts as mules as I have never done this before and am concerned about getting myself into a complete mess!

That's it in a nut shell. One toon holds the runes, another toon holds more runes and glyphs, one toon holds the huge number of provisioning things, another toon holds all the tailoring materials and items to have traits learnt, another toon holds all the black smithing things and items with needed traits, the bank holds all the different gems etc. Oh, nearly forgot my woodworker, she has loads of wood in its raw and finished state and things needed to have the traits learnt too. 8 toons in all.. and then I have the fun of shifting it all around for at least an hour or more twice a day.
    Sooooo sick of it.
Why don't the devs look at this, play like this and see how soul destroying for the game that this is???
I so wish I could reach through the screen and yell at them,"play my game for a day and see how much you enjoy it" .. but I can't.

One of the first things I did was create myself a personal bank. I made a guild and found 10+ people that wanted to join to keep the bank open for me. Now I have access to a 500 slot guild bank on all of my characters along with whatever bank space I purchased. The sad thing is that it holds a constant 450 items out of the 500 slots and you have to get a mod to restack everything since the game doesnt do it for you.

It's one of the weakest points of the game and still not addressed. I have to wonder if they are afraid to mess with the banks after the bank bug.

I would like more character slots simply to be able to mess around with different ideas. Sometimes in games I discover my favorite characters by accident. While the Racial skill lines aren't everything they do play a factor.

The issue of the inventory and bank is another thing altogether. Coming from a standard TES game it is a bit befuddling how little space we have to store items. I really wish we had different sections of bank at least. There are really three possibilities how they could lay it out to give us a reprieve.

    1) Player Housing: Give us a house like we had in Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind. This one is the most obvious, but it would give each of our characters a place to store food in the pantry, armor and weapon alternates on the wall, Metals and such at the Blacksmithing Forge Containers, Wood and Resins at the Woodworking station, etc etc. You get the idea. This one is kind of the most obvious, and why I think they've done little to nothing about it yet.

    2) Personal bank space. As it stands now, having one bank actually doesn't make things too easy if you level more than 1 character. Most games give you a personal bank, with a small account bank to shuffle things between characters. This game has a large account bank, which is nice, but very limiting if you ever use more than one character.

    3) Bank partitions. Different partitions of bank space could theoretically store different amounts. The Enchanting and Provisioning partition for instance could have larger storage to match the fact that they require ridiculous amounts of space to even be functional. Having a partition for different bank uses might be a cool way to go, and in some ways represent having a house storage. It would also be great for ease of use, in finding what you need quickly.

***As an aside, some things could stack better. 100 items? Really. 20 items for enchanting materials? Just giving us better stacking space would be nice, particularly when I don't think glyphs should take up tons of space.

These are all just random dreams I've hoped for with regard to inventory space. My gut feeling is they're going to use player housing as a means to do a lot of the personal banking I've spoken of. I don't think they want to change the current system, because they are looking forward to this feature in the future (even if it feels like an awful long wait for us).

Player housing would fix a lot of these problems. Heck, it could even be a commune where each of your 8 possible characters gets their own room!

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Mules.

Now, I had to chuckle when you asked how does it work, because this system we have to take on does not work, at all. But, it is what we have, and what we have to do until they realize that the Bank/Storage space limitations are not helping anything in the game.

You do want to limit, heck, even name your Alts to reflect this, to a certain type of Mats. Otherwise trying to remember who has what will drive you nuts. Also, give each Alt at least the first bank upgrade. This will give you 60 spaces per Mule. I can't see me making it any bigger as an Alt Mule is destined to be deleted at some point. So, to that end, I even make my Mules ugly.

Also, make these Alts work for you, if you craft. It takes about 8 to 10 level 20 to 30 items being deconstructed to gain enough levels in each crafting profession to get the minions. You can get what you need with a single run through a public dungeon at your level. All 4 of my alts have 3 minions each (Wood, Clothing, Armor). So, I get 12 emails a day from just those alts (have to log in to get the email) and I get Mats, Trait Gems and Tempers from them. The mats are low level trash, but the Tempers and Trait Gems are useful and helpful and add up over time.

I have used an add on that tells me what my Alts have in storage (Inventory Insight I think it is called), but it crashed my game when I was switching weapons, so I only use this on my Mules who just spend their lives standing outside the bank.

I've stated this a hundred times before, but I'll say it again. All they have to do is increase the stack size to 500 or 1,000 and the problem would instantly be solved. Ten stacks of ingots would now only take up 1 or 2 slots instead of 10.

I imagine they are well and truly frightened by the size of a character file that could develop if they let us store items the way you could in Skyrim. Most players of that game being absolute pick up everything types, they accumulate so much stuff it requires houses with storage containers just to keep it all.

I imagine at some point houses will be a money item attached to an expansion, though where this game could possibly go with PVP being end game I have no idea. Maybe PVE needs more attention?

Not sure about more character slots, but I see your pain. I have 8 Characters and 1 main 1 alt and the rest basically mules. I have a lvl 10 maxed out provisioner with 99 bag slots that usually only has 1 or 2 empty unless I put stuff in the bank to make food.

Do you have your bank fully upgraded? I find it hard to believe people still have issues with 240 slots unless they're trying to keep every green item they find or the useless provisioning materials.

From all the discussion on the forums it seems reasonable to assume that the majority of people who have issues with storage aren't in a position to have accumulated anywhere near enough gold to have been able to purchase bank and/or bag slots in those kinds of quantity.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

Heck with the banking situation, I want more slots to make gag characters. Give me fifty slots! I'll use 'em all.
