Does it take to long to level in veteran ranks?

I am veteran rank 2 and I been questing for awhile and it seems like it takes forever. I was questing for 2 hours and went from 30% xp to 42% xp questing none stop while skipping all dialogue. Is it just me? am I doing something wrong? Suggestions are appreciated.

Think of it like this, non-vet (one faction) has 50 levels and vet (two factions) has 12 levels. So instead of leveling 50 times in one faction, you only level ~6 times per faction. It's gonna feel a lot longer, but my suggestion is to not think about leveling and instead think about how to adjust and experiment your style of playing to be the best. I've had a lot of fun in vet, leveling other weapons and play styles.

Now if you already know how to play the best, or are doing light armor + resto/destro (from what I hear), I could see how vet levels will be very monotonous and slow. I honestly think Zeni sat down and said, "What's gonna happen after their (our) first faction? It's gonna feel grindy, but let's do vet levels, where they (us) go slower and it's a lot harder, and hopefully they have fun experimenting and tweaking their builds while believing Cadwell's ridiculous story." I think now they've realized the error of their ways and are implementing the champion thing, but honestly I haven't minded vet levels and I just finished at v11.

    Edit: typos

One veteran level needs approximately the XP of 10-20 normal levels. Exploration and similar secondary XP sources do not seem to work.
Since they are 12 Veteran levels but only 50 normals, it will indeed take long.
Currently Veteran levels are a grind. At best you can choose a good place to grind to do it faster.

At least it means you don't have to upgrade your gear taht often ;)

I went from VR1-2 in a day or so of not so rigorious grinding. My exp to level is somewhere around 900k right now. It was ~150k in my late 40s. Take that how you will :)

Also, I found that doing delves/dungeons in Craglorn /really/ helped.

The ranks are an illusion. All they really are is a progress bar for how many of the quests you've completed. So asking the question, "Are the ranks too long?" is the same as asking, "Are there too many quests?" When you finish every quest, you'll be at the top rank.

It only took me a little over a month to go through all the Vet Content, with the exception of Craglorn.

Just remember.. Do EVERY single quest. That is how you level the quickest in Vet Ranks.. I gained very little if any experience fighting anything in Vet.

"Skipping dialogue" to speed things up will make the process feel longer. That's what happens when you try to rush something that can't be rushed. And the exp bar watch doesn't help either, though unless you remove it from your UI altogether, it is unavoidable.

Generally, each zone will garner you a Vet level, as long as you do world bosses, dolmens and delves along with the main story of that particular map - as guided by Cadwell. But I found there was quite a difference in how long that took. Some zones are exp heavy earlier than others, so you feel like you are making progress faster than the last zone. The length of skill point quests differ also. Unlike you I play the story and some zones I finished in a couple of days, others took over a week.

I read a suggestion that the fastest way to do VR zones, is to complete all the world bosses and dolmens of the alliance you are currently in, then go back and do the story. Of course this was back when people still grouped for such things; it may be harder to get a group to do that with unless you are in a guild.

For me, I found it was the quickest and least boring way. Running around in circles killing the same thing over and over again made me fall asleep several times and I barely gained any experience doing it. Got lots of loot, but little experience.

But I also consider doing World Bosses, Dolmens and Dungeons as part of doing all the quests.

Dolmen/Bosses/Public Dungeon for the the whole zone you just entered then ..
    Main story.
Absolutely no need to do any other quest !
In fact its pretty straightforward and not as boring as it sounds. You discover the entire map with a generaly cool story. You ll get into the rythm easily.
But most important and why grinding in Craglorn is a bad idea ...
You ll miss so many skills points ( we talking about 25 skills points from quests alone here ..)that you wont be able to adapt your playstyle to future situations ...
And you wont be able able to max your skills thanks to quests completions.
In a word you ll gimp yourself real hard.
I have 5 weapons at lvl 50, 2 craft at 50 and hirelings in all other professions + extraction and improvement.
With this method when I finished Caldwell I was V10.5.
And then I grinded to V12 in Craglorn in half a day doing Shadow ...:)

Don't try to grind all the way to the top unless you wanna run yourself into a wall where you don't have much to do (unless all you're looking for is PvP, then go ahead). The stories are pretty good, if you just work through them you'll come out fine once you finish both factions. Like was stated earlier, you learn a lot more playing through different styles and tweaking yourself as you go and come out with more skillpoints etc.

There was a point where I wanted to just hit Craglorn as soon as I could, but before I got there I realized there wasn't any reason to burn all the way up to V12 and you'll just miss out on a lot of content.

well about that topic i actually agree.
my main char als has 270 skillspoints. i leveled by doing the entire content. (so all quests - collecting shards - doing all the dungeons with most achievements also and so on)
and even i am by no means a pve player i wouldnt miss doing that because the quest lines - story and even the look of the game are awesome and entertaining.

but for my alts i only grinded. (my record from level 3 to v12 is 38hours actual playtime)
big downing of grinding obviously is the lack of skillpoints.
i have around 120 on my alt and can only play 2-3 pvp specs. (which is enough for me on that char though - and also respeccing is way cheaper than on my main ;) )

when i said its super easy and fast to get to v12 i didnt say it is the best way in the game to level. i only said it is by far the fastest.

I like both questing and PvP, but I understand some people are just after PvP, for those I think instant max level would be an option. It's a shame it's not available.
