1.3 Set bonuses... and making big changes to stats

So I just saw the plans for set bonuses to be changed to have 2, 3, 4, and 5 pieces bonuses.... and overall it looks like a great change. Not only are all the 5 piece bonuses better than they used to be(some were pretty awful), but now it will be possible to mix and match stats that you desire.

This brings up a big issue for me though. It takes a lot of resources to make a legendary set of armor. If you are planning to make such huge changes to set bonuses, a lot of people who crafted these sets already will be screwed.

Understandably, changes happen in MMOs,. but this leads me to a concern I have... I am basically scared now to craft anything at all...

I plan on crafting a full set of gear tailored to my Nightblade who uses "melee" class abilities. What this means is that I need to gear for weapon crit, but spell damage... well lets say I craft my legendary set of gear that I have been saving mats for all these months, and then you announce in 1.4 or whatever that now melee class abilities will use weapon damage as well as weapon crit? I would be very irritated.

I guess what I am trying to ask is are there any other big changes planned for the near future? I want to avoid wasting so many mats on a gear set that could be made useless by big changes to stats or set bonuses in the future.

Your essentially asking them to confirm patch notes months in advance, just so you can feel better making gear.

It's never going to happen, for small patches they don't even confirm till it's live.

This is an MMO, it's subject to change, you know this. It's up to you if you want to gamble and make the gear. All gear gets replaced eventually, roll those dice and take your chance, or don't.

Just don't expect the devs to radically change how they convey upcoming changes, just to put your mind at ease.

i dislike how weak the stamina buffs are, i mean 78 stamina stamina for a 2 set? atleast 78magicka is good as it's only used for spells. stamina is used for 2 things god dammit
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

I am not specifically asking about a patch. I am asking if the devs have any future plans to change how any of the stats work. Kind of how they have voiced how they want to add certain things like a crime system, but those things aren't necessarily coming in a patch anytime soon.

I am just wondering if they have thought about changing how weapon/spell crit works, same with weapon spell/power, and how all these stats interact with class abilities, because right now the whole system is really messy.

And yes thank you, I know I will probably replace my set of golden gear eventually but I put a lot of value in the mats I have collected since the game came out. I don't see the harm in seeking information or just asking a question since devs do answer threads sometimes.

If you are not comfortable with upgrading to Gold because of gear changes then don't upgrade anything to gold at all. They already stated they are adding in PvP gear sets and more rare gear as drops. It will always be like this.

I have a 3 piece Willows Path set upgraded to Yellow.
I have a 5 piece Twilight's Embrace set upgraded to Purple.

Both of these sets will no longer have benefit to me after the update.

I don't mind replacing them with newly crafted and upgraded sets.

This is a given in most MMOs that gear change due to adjustments, new gear will be available throughout the MMO's life time, older gear may get obsolete, etc. etc.

If you fear things may change with 1.3, never craft anything then as it'll change again at some point.

    When is this being implemented?

    Start of August.

It's not just the crafted sets by the way. It's all of them. e.g. Warlock set "special" now moves to 5 part bonus. You can find details on all the sets on the PTS forums.
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/118944/1-3-0-armor-and-weapon-sets/p1

There's a certain amount of outcry from those who have already maxed out all their stuff to legendary level. http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/119087/refund-crafting-materials-or-cancel-setbonus-changes/p1

I think you're confused. I guarantee this player was using this setup for the 10% bonus to spell crit, now that will be changed as Willow's Path will be aimed more at stat regen while Twilight's Path seems to be more of a tank or self-healing build oriented set, so they will have to find other sets to use as a caster. Not sure what you saw as invalid about his point because it is 100% valid.

I think it is safe to say a majority of players (casters) were most likely using the 3 warlock, 3 willow's, 5 twilight setup, which will not be viable once this patch hits. Even though change like this is expected, I doubt another one of this magnitude is going to happen. Even if they decide to change the way certain stats work at some point, it most likely won't be for quite a while or won't be a change that would require total reconfiguration of gear (at least you would hope). So I say, upgrade the hell out of that gear when you can, even if it only gives you a few months of usage, this is an mmo so those mats will find a way into your inventory again. Or you can always get rich and buy them :D
On second thought, let's not go to the forums. 'Tis a silly place.

Did you actually read the notes? They are changing those sets again before the patch hits. OK you still lose 2% crit but there are other things to be gained.

Twilight’s Embrace: Updated the set piece bonuses on this set:
3 piece bonus: Increases Spell Critical by 4%
4 piece bonus: Increases spell power
Willow’s Path: Updated the set piece bonuses on this set:
2 piece bonus: Increases maximum magicka
3 piece bonus: Increases Spell Critical by 4%
4 piece bonus: Increases health regeneration

I am not going to worry about it. I will craft myself a nice legendary set when i hit VR12. If they later change things around, i will craft myself a new one. Sure, getting the mats again will take time, but i am not in a hurry.

I'm already aware of the modification made in 1.3.1.
My post was made prior to 1.3.1 being introduced to the PTS, when both sets had their Spell Crit removed.

Um...you were able to mix and match sets before and get the unique ability. What they did now is give you stats on 2,3,4. A terrible idea that has nothing to do with zeni trying to make sets more interesting. This is basically a nerf/balance to prevent people from using multiple sets of 3 and get the unique ability, something I had found fun and cool about this game. Right now you could wear Warlock, Dragon, seducer, and magnus and benefit from the unique set abilities. Come nerf time, these wannabe new sets will replace that with giving you stats instead.

If they had creativity in mind they would have kept the unique abilities at 3 pieces of a set like they are now and then improve them again at 5 piece. However they decided to give you something as odd as
    2 piece= 10 magicka rec
    3 piece= 10 stamina rec
    4 piece= 10 health rec

You know....for the player who doesn't know wtf he wants to be.

New gear sets will come in and sooner or later the level cap will be raised - anyone who has ever played an MMO will know this.

Fortunately, unlike other games, it does seem - at least at this time - that ZOS are attempting to keep the gap between maxed out gear and average gear in the same ball park.

So budget accordingly - if you really feel that you need to run a maxed-out, full legendary set then you need to make sure you have the means in place to get the mats and/or gold to manage that. Some people will do this; many won't.

That's how it should be - for those prepared to put the effort in they get some marginal advantage; for those unable or unwilling to put in that extra effort they don't get that marginal advantage but at the same time they shouldn't be relegated to the level of food for the ubers.

They are actually lowering the OC on Spell Power and put spell power on a lot of sets. I am curious to see how this will end up. Will people just push their spell power in to OC territory, or switch jewelry to reduced cost and hit the OC with set pieces. I'm also curious with the Magicka OC going up how much more damage we will be putting out.

Whoops, didn't see they updated the pts notes. Wasn't it easier to just say that rather than point to the new notes though :)

On a side note...looks like they caved to magicka builds after about a week even though it took this long to even start making stamina builds on par (as far as enhancing them with gear sets). I know people will say they were reacting to feedback, but when an overwhelming majority of your player base uses the same gear setup, OF COURSE they are going to complain about a change to it. So where ZOS sees data saying "oh a majority of players don't like this change...it must be bad."...no...a majority of players don't like that change because they would rather keep doing the same thing they are used to doing rather than change up.

Not that I'm entirely against this change, though I'm hoping this just keeps the pressure on to buff stamina builds.

This should be done by buffing Stamina in the first place! Not by the Gear.
