Hey folks, we've removed some of the ongoing off-topic discussions. Please focus on the thread's topic and don't bait each other into completely unrelated rants.

Umm ZOS_JanS, you should be aware... Siege Perilous is not a player run / "illegal" server, it's developed and hosted by Electronic Arts. It's no more "player run" or "illegal" to play on than the Atlantic or Pacific servers.

...how would this be even remotely feasible?

Many many games have done this, UO comes to mind..
Actually, "many many" is probably two or three at most and none probably this century .. EVE of course is excepted here, it has little in common with any other MMO really.

Just look on Steam. There has been two games on the top-selling list for the past YEAR that offer this type of gameplay. RUST and Day-Z. These games succeeded (made millions in profit) while still in development despite not even having a centralized persistent server.

The MAJORITY of Minecrat servers also offer up this gameplay. Minecraft as you know is one of the top selling games of all time.

Then yes there is EVE, which has been doing VERY well for over a decade with no signs of slowing down, in fact, the game has been steadily growing despite CCP's very limited advertising.

Then you have games like Mortal Online and Darkfall Online that are not only surviving but raking in the dough despite being otherwise complete pieces of crap. That was harsh, but the developers of those games make a habit of exploiting their fans.

Wildstar, the most hyped PVE mmo of the day is offering up world pvp/bag loot. etc etc.

Then there is Lineage, which is several times bigger than even WOW.

Someone mentioned survivial horror games ITT. Rust and Day-Z would be very good tittles to look at for Paul Sage and co to understand what the pvp community wants in PVP mechanics. This is the reason Cyrodill is dead and why the Justice System, while potentially interesting will be glossed over by the vast majority of players, pvpers don't want risk-less PVP any more than roleplayers, gold farmers and gear-grinders want to be forced into some PVP metagame for daily loot.

Classic example, UO in it's death troes tried to salvage it's subscriber base by forcing PVE players into PVP situations and it satisfied neither group. While not quite the same, even Diablo II had a hardcore community larger than some PVE MMOs entire playerbases. They nerfed PVP risk in D3 and the hardcore community died.

I'm not going to argue the merits of the full-loot gameplay dynamics over the endless grind for more gear and need for more and more content. I actually enjoy both. The simple fact is some people like the drama and risk that come along with >roleplaying<, others just want to power up their character sheet. You shouldn't try to force people to roleplay and you aren't going to get people who like the risk and political drama inherit in "hardcore" MMO roleplaying to all the sudden enjoy a nihilistic "gindfeast".

Granted I'll still enjoy ESO without roleplaying ability, but they're going to have to add story and content on the regular, I simply don't enjoy running the same dungeon a dozen times for a +2 sword or doing mindless daily quests over and over to have every bonus point in the game. Materialism is bad enough when people do it in real life... in a video game. Sorry, I was born in the 80s but I'm not a nihilist. I do raids and qeusts once over cause I enjoy a good story, but if you want to keep me playing i need human interaction and political drama,"epic phat loots" and grinding raids to "complete myself" don't interest me (or the millions who play what has come to be known as "survival MMOs").

PS: LOL @ the cliche "go play Darkfall Unholy Wars lol" comment. "Go play some low-budget re-branded 8 year old game that never got out of beta", real intelligent, there are open source projects of the same type that have been better implemented. At least suggest something that defines the genere, , EVE, Day-Z or RUST.

I'm not questioning that it is in the minorty, I'm just challenging the 5% number. It seems lower than I would have guesstimated.

From a poll I recently conducted its seems at least the ESO community is close to the 5% number. While this is not indicative of the MMO market as a whole it is relevant to the OP.

The only thing I believe should be fully lootable is npc humanoids, like in Skyrim, you kill a person, their whole inventory is lootable. I did enjoy that and it's more realistic than fighting a fully armored and weaponed enemy and then looking at his corpse and only seeing a health potion and a trifling rune of flame. As far as the OP went, losing all your stuff to another player wouldn't work in this game as it's too hard to come by. Yes I know this is an old thread, but I just saw it so spare the necro comments since necromancy is something I'd also like to see in this game as a player skillset.
