Full Immersion Server

The essence of what an Elder Scrolls game is about feels tarnished [to me] by the direction taken to build this game; which is, keep the game as appealing to as many people as possible. Right, I get that and this is not request for a new overall direction of the Megaserver.

What I would like to see in the future is a new server that places strong emphasis on immersion. Immersion can be singular perspective to one person and mean something completely different to another person so I wish to ask the community what you believe immersion means to you by providing a list of tools (or lack there of) and ways mechanics would interact with the player as they progress through Tamriel.

Warning: some of my propositions to create an Immersion Server will be seen as drastic to some. You may disagree with me, which is fine, but I rather you provide your own list of changes/additions that you like to see, instead. Ultimately we all know it'll not happen. =)

- One character (don't feel limited, feel unique).
- Character name only may contain one space.
- One Guild. Guilds capped at or around 100, maybe even less.
- Quests grant less experience. Seems pretty easy to out level quests.
- A harsher Death Penalty. I don't have too much of an opinion on this because it can range quite wildly from 1) losing a percentage of your health as a short debuff to 2) having to visit an Inn for a few minutes because you're fatigued (or some other reason) to 3) losing gold or experience. Emphasis isn't the penalty but the penalty being heavy enough to not want to die.
- Maps have a Fog of Darkness(War). Discovered areas stay discovered. NPC cartographers can also update a portion of your map for a price.
- Maps have no Map Pins but the character is able to add their own
- Quest Markers do not exist on the Compass or the Map. Basically, the quest tracking system is removed.
- Quest summaries are rewrote to better represent the dialog that initiated the quest. I understand this one is huge but it seems most quest summaries were built, or rather forced, to only use the compass, quest markers, and map pins. I will admit a good handful of quest are wrote well enough to find places/people but it's mid-quest/turn-in that it gets severely confusing due to lack of information of the most basic form. The worst offenders are quest turn-ins that say Go see <NPC_name>" and when you get there you expect them to be relatively where you seen them last or in the same broad area but are instead on the other side of the zone. No way to know. Sorry this bullet is so long I have a major issue with quest summaries that don't even remotely represent the quest dialog.
- In game signs!
- Residents of cities and towns can offer direction to well-known NPC's and nearby areas.
- Only first-person PoV is available. This usually has no grey area; people either love or hate the idea passionately. I understand. ~laughs~
- Weight is added to items carried and an encumbrance system is introduced. The encumbrance system can be represented in a multitude of ways from slowing character movement to adding a percentage of stamina required to do actions.
- Crafting requires materials on your character.
- Debuff if you've not ate and drank for X amount of time. Unsure on what the variable should be but at least twice per full day/night cycle. Debuff could be losing a percentage to all resources and movement speed.
- Rested experience (upcoming feature to those not aware) doesn't exists as a game mechanic.
- Hovering over NPC's only shows they are <Gender Race> instead of their Name until you talk to them.
- All fast travel removed.

Anyways, that's my vision of an Immersion Server. Probably only have hope for In-game Signs though, at best.

Enjoy the game, and I look forward to additions, comments and lambasts from you all. =)

Waste of text. ESO Mega-Server tech does not support separate 'Servers' like some other MMOs do. Not going to happen in ESO, ever.

I'm aware, as made quite clear throughout my write-up. Looking for more of discussion on what people would like on an Immersion server, is all.

I disagreed totally with the preamble and the first few suggestions, didn't read on any further. If there's a meaningful point you were trying to get across, this wasn't the way to do it - it got lost in a wall of text.

How about a full naked server...adults only.

Or a cheese head server, only helmets are cheese.

How about black and white server, no color at all.

Or server for only those wanting to play the banjo or drums?

Lets just get all these "special snowflake" server ideas out of the way with one word....

    NO!

    What about Argonians?
Many names are 3 or 4 words long with dashes in between.

Also, the server would need to be full open world PvP and have all NPCs kill-able. I wouldn't feel fully immersed in a world I couldn't kill people in.

Something I would like to see: ESO in a local co-op mode. Still needs an active subscription, but your machine (or a bought server) does all the work. You set the rules, can mod it to your hearts content, but the date is separate from the servers.

And you choose who can play or not, ala minecraft.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

Nice and if we, theoretically, had the option to create our own servers I'd make grouping [mostly] mandatory by adjusting the difficulty of encounters and quest objectives. Throwback to the first era of mmo's (well to the first Neverwinter Nights (not bioware), Meridian, UO, EQ, etc) instead of this train ride through the park with the map as our lash to pull us to sustenance.

You should check out Rust (I think it's in Alpha or beta, correct me?).

It's not really an mmo. But you spawn naked, have to eat etc. and if you die you lose everything. You can also build your own houses etc.

Your ideas are really interesting and nice but do not work with AAA mmo titles - only niche games.

read over a few, I think a Fog of War would have gave ESO a nice touch in the exploration direction, maybe even have maps be things you find in desks, wardrobes all that noise, but seems like it would have been more trouble than it's worth.

I'd rather they didn't, it would mean allocating resources and time on managing another server when they could focus entirely on what we currently have.
Furthermore, a few of the things you mentioned can be currently done by yourself and there are some addons which make the game 'feel' more like a traditional TES game (if you look hard enough).

So ultimately, while I can respect that many players come from a non-MMO background, I feel this would be a waste of time. There will always be something to ruin a players 'immersion', best to deal with it an move on.

I kind of like quest markers but that's because I get lost or turned around really easily. Maybe they could be optional though. I loved seing places I hadn't been yet pop up black on my compass in Skyrim. I got pulled off in random directions all the time.

One space in your name? Why? What if Eric the Red wants to play? What's so bad about a name like that?
Scura di Notte - Altmer Nightblade (gear)
Lalin del Sombra - Bosmer Sorcerer (alchemy/enchanting)
    Angevin Sarkany - Bosmer Dragonknight
Alkemene Velothi - Dunmer Warden (Morrowind)
Sanna yos'Phalen - Altmer Sorcerer (provisioning)
    Cosima di Mattina -Altmer Sorcerer
    Naria Andrano - Dunmer Templar

I love your thinking, many of the true role players would love that, but it wont happen as it would require to much of a re-work.

Sorry, OP. ESO players really, really hate any idea that makes a game less like any other generic modern MMO.

No, ESO players are opposing radical changes to the basic nature of the game they are playing. Simple difference.

There is a VERY easy fix for ZoS to completely and totally make you happy.

#1 - ZoS continues with ESO as they are, improving it, balancing it, adding cool features, etc.

#2 - You wait until the next numbered TES game comes out (already in progress but the next Fallout will hit first) and then go play that.

    #3 - Win/win for everyone!!

Thanks to those that did want to participate, though. It was appreciated but half the other posters rather discuss how this is a void subject rather than debate or elaborate on the subject. I don't mind on-topic discussions not favorable to my perspective but most would rather have this subject non-existent as if it's unfair for them to have to of read when they simply could ignore it.
