Once you have completed the Mages Guild storyline, is collecting lore books the only way to increase your rank/standing with the guild ?

If you mean to get to level 10, then the 'blue-ish' Lore books are the only thing that increases rank.......

I have just hit VR10 and never really searched these books out( even though I explore a lot), consequently I only reached lvl10 Mages Guild 2 days ago!! :p

I've gathered every lore book this far I think except couple from group dungeons. Vr4 and mage guild 9 and about 5/6 done.

Yes and always has been the one and only mean to level Mages Guild.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's culture. And the Elves.

    Help make this compilation complete!

Keep in mind that you earn bonus XP from completing lorebook collections, which can often be done in one area. But Mages Guild definitely took the longest time to get to level 10.

Yeap , you need the books.

If you dont have the patience to search for them , get the addon , makes it really really easy.

There are plenty of things in this game I will spend a lot of time for, but looking for lorebooks is not one of them. 30% of these books are in impossible places. I figure it will take you years to find them all.

Here's a link for the those who want it.

Rubbish. My first toon I ignored the lore books then realised I needed them. Got the addon and found enough to get me to lvl 10 in about an hour.

I've explored five zones so far, and have gotten the lore book achievement for each one without actively seeking them. But then again, freestyle exploration is my favorite activity in Elder Scrolls games. Most of the books are definitely in obscure locations, away from map markers.

If you don't count cyrodil you have to get just about every single lorebook in your home alliance and the first enemy alliance to hit 10.

He was talking about not using the addon. It does take forever if you don't use the addon. I knew the locations for quite a few of them from beta and PTS and still didn't hit mage guild level 10 until I was halfway through VR. This was without using the addon during my first play through.

There are some that are in some pretty remote places and there are some that are easily missed in group dungeons, Cyrodiil, in locations that I snuck past with my NB.

Yes but there are addons that show you where lore books are, as well as maps showing their locations. And of course the Ahievements page lists all the Lore books you've found, plus how many in each section is missing.

So if you google the lore books, find out which ones aren't there, then you can track down the missing books.

I call BS even using the addon no way you ignored them then got 200 or so lorebooks spread through at least two alliances in an hour unless you have some massive speed hack. It takes 52 lorebooks just to get from Mages guild 9 to 10. Even if you were already at mages guild 9 which I don't know how you would have done ignoring them that would be 1 book a minute it takes more time than that just to walk.

More to point, without Cyrodil but including Coldharbour you can get to mid Level 7 with Lore Books alone in just your starting Faction. Finishing the Mage's Guild questline up through it's conclusion still doesn't quite get you all the way to 10, but it's close. You will have to gain access to your 2nd Faction's zones to finish it.

And for any that want to know, you gain 5 Mage's Guild XP for each Lore Book found.
