Is playing Vet toons worth it till Champion System

So it is well known champion points are replacing veteran points. We will gain champion points and experience in place of the Veteran points. So my question is. Is playing your Veteran toon worth it till the Champion System is released? Or should we just park our Veteran toons for now? Basically are the Champion points going to be retroactive for the amount of work we have done while waiting for this system or are we wasting our time working our way through the old Vet system?

    Yes, they will be retroactive.

However, if in the Champion system we get 1 point after every 100k xp, we wont get the same amount of points for all the vet points but for what we would have normally gotten in the new system.

Okay this is complicated, so we wont get the point for all the zillion of VP points we accumulate but what we would have accumulated in the content in the new system!

Yes. A Vet 12 player will get more Champion Points than a Vet 2 player. But they still haven't confirmed whether Veteran Ranks are being removed. All we know so far is that they are removing Veteran Points and that you will increase Veteran Ranks with XP instead of VP as Phase 2 of the Veteran System overhaul.

Whether the Champion Points system is added in parallel to the Veteran Ranks, or as an outright replacement in Phase 3 of the overhaul is not clear.

I thought in the first webcast where they initially announced it they said that Champion points would replace veteran ranks and 50 would be the top level?

Regardless I don't see why you would park your vet level character for months unless you just want to level alts. Otherwise what is the point of playing the game at all?

For the sake of discussion lets just assume for every VR rank a player acquires the equivalent of 5 champion points. I am making that value up for example purposes. When the system goes live, a VR12 character would start off with 60 champion points (VR12 x 5 points per VR rank) right off the bat to spend. That is how I understand the system will work.

What I haven't seen explained anywhere is what will happen to a VR12 character's VR12-quality gear. I imagine a lot of players have yellow-quality VR12 gear, which means it has the highest stats possible in the game. Will VR12 gear get converted to level 50 gear but now require a minimum number of Champion points to equip? In other words, it retains the same exact stats, but a level 50 can only equip it if they have accumulated 60 champion points. Something like this would allow ZOS to add more end game progression content with progressively better loot rewards tailored to players with the highest champion point total.

That is a good question. I guess they could make a passive that allows you to wear different gear but that would effectively be the same thing as the VR levels are now. The feeling I get is that everyone will get the same level 50 gear but your passives will make it better with +x% magicka +X% weapon damage etc. At least the ones they have announced so far make it seem that way.

So my question is what happens with stuff like Worm cult sets that are dropped at VR5 and VR10 levels? Will those be made in to two different sets or will they be one set? Also what about all the sets that drop at different stats through all the VR levels?

I honestly think they came up with this idea because it sounded like it would fix a lot of the complaints but don't even have all these details worked out yet.

I'm confused and can' be bothered to read up on this new system, so I'm going to keep playing as though it was never mentioned. Then when it's implemented, I will proceed to run around like Chicken Little and shake my fist at the sky. My strategy is soundproof.

(This sounds like sarcasm, but this is actually my plan.)

Will there be something more to do for these 'Champ points' once you've completed the 3 factions, other than joining mindless grind trains?

I've not found anywhere to get V12 gear from on my own, so I'm currently finishing off the group quests in Craglorn on the rare occasions I find someone else willing to do them. Can't join my guildies because, due to an arbitrary keypress on the char selection screen made before I know they were all playing, I'm the wrong faction.

After 16+ zones cleared solo, is that 'game over' for the solo gamer in the times he can't dedicate a solid chunk of time to finding a group and then progressing through the V12 content?

It honestly makes the most sense. Just play the game and enjoy it and change when and if it comes.

I would suggest that you not spend a lot of time in the Vet levels, but do know that the work will not be without reward.

I'll say it this way, when the changes come...which may not hit until December, you may feel the conversion is great or that its unfair. If you're the type of person who insists on having your efforts rewarded, re-roll another toon after VR1 and enjoy the lore and new experiences of the game.

    This is what I'm doing.

But equally, when asked in an ESOTR podcast, Paul Sage said Veteran Ranks would not be going away.... hence the reason this needs clarification.

Yes, currently as a solo gamer, that is it unless you want to PvP or group up for Trials/Dungeons. However, Wrothgar is coming Soon™, and Wrothgar is a new solo PvE zone.
