Now that the game is on steam, will we be seeing the Fart Shout mod any time soon?

No, really; my question has a valid point. With the multitude of mods available on Steam and Nexus for Elder Scrolls games, and with the depths they traveled to (some depravity, some intriguing), how long do you suppose it will be before this game becomes a multiplayer Skyrim?

You can't use those kind of mods for an mmo. So it won't happen.

As mentioned above, the sort of mods we love for games like Morrowind,Oblivon and Skyrim will not be coming to a game like ESO. We can get UI mods and that's about it really.

As an mmo, TESO won't be modable by users.

There are already a large number of interface add ons created by the ESO modding community. The thing is, since this game is a multiplayer, it has limits to what you are allowed to mod because of what is considered cheating.

Rust never sleeps. Steam will find a way.

I believe addons would get much better community support and donations in there if ZOS of course gave redemption keys to the authors :/
Do you mind? I'm busy doing the fishstick, it's a very delicate state of mind.

Well, basically, all mods can be considered as cheating (excluding official addon api, ofc)

Hacks already exist, but you won't find them on Steam because it is cheating.

Cheating isn't a problem in single player games (and really isn't cheating,) because it doesn't affect anyone else.

There are no mods for games like Rift, which is playable through Steam, in the manner than there are for Skyrim, for example, because it would effect the gameplay of other players. Typically because it would result in you getting an unfair advantage.

I think it would be cool if they put addons instead of mods in the workshop.

Personally, I use only 2 addons (dps meter + show softcap).. And I didn't use any mod in Skyrim and Oblivion. But it was cool browsing workshop and see what people created ^^

It'd be really neat if UI mods could be Workshop-able.

That's really something Steam has to do. I remember Steam mods for Skyrim always had to be in compressed .bsa format, and I know add ons for ESO are mainly just loose files so I'm not sure it will happen. It's pretty easy to get the add ons from ESOUI anyways.

I don't think they will open workshop for UI mods.

These UI file as are usually "modified" through changes in loose files (as was said) that overwrite the others. Changes to documents, lua files and texture files. They don't come in the small package like the BSA format for Skyrim.

I haven't looked at the Steam page to see if they have some anti-cheating enabled so I can't speak to that. Sometimes when you use UI mods or mods then your Steam achievements won't count on some games.

They should let one thing be player modable..... Player housing.

I kinda liked how Rift has their housing. Some places are just that..places..you can get the spaces or houses, items, buildings, decor, etc etc through quests, points earned in game. You also of course can buy them with real money.

However you could build things right from the ground up. It was not "moddable" per se but it you were able to make a unique environment.

I would like for far more things to be gotten in game for this than to pay for them. However I think I got like 3 houses or places for houses with just simple quests.

    No.

I don't know why people haven't grasped this yet in this thread, but mods like we see in single-player Elder Scrolls games don't work in an MMO environment. Only the UI can be modified. Stop asking for more, because it ain't happening.

Just looking at the steam reviews and this forum i sometimes wonder if people realize that a mmo is fundamentally different to single player game. You cannot allow mods that give you new OP armor because it is an unfair advantage. Eso is not a single player game and game balance has to maintain. I sometimes wonder if people think before they buy eso or if they just see elder scrolls and think ahh it is skyrim with multiplayer...

You could probably do texture mods, they work in other MMOs. Only you can see the texture changes, of course, but it's doable.

I've never heard of another MMO that allows players access to texture files. Modifying textures opens the door for all kinds of cheating.

I used a few and created a few back when I played WOW, just changing armor colors and such. Its purely visual and only you can see the changes, not sure how you would use that to cheat.

I'm not aware of any approved addons for WoW that would allow that, and here's how you use textures to cheat:

Replace specific textures with see-through textures so that you can see through walls. Replace nodes with giant glowing signs. Etc., etc.

I agree, Rift's Dimensions system is awesome, hands down the best 'housing' feature of any game, on-line or off, that I've played.

And while the Store rightly has many things for Dimensions, fluff stuff is what works best in F2P MTs, in-game items and drops from chests etc. are still more than adequate to build some impressive buildings.

Textures didn't support transparency and changing something's shape would be the model, not texture. I'll be honest, I don't remember if it was approved or not, I just remember doing it.
  • kassandratheclericb14_ESO
Texturing was NOT approved on WoW and could in some instances be a cheat. If it was just an armor or skin for the player (as you can guess there were more than a few naked textures...but many were actually cool body tattoos and textures for necklaces) usually they usually didn't say anything. Textures for anything else could get you banned from the game.
