So, are they removing the VR in phase 4?

I have watched the quakecon panel and have noticed several things...... Champion system is coming out in 4 phases.

1. Balancing VR content (Currently already in the game)
2. Allowing Veteran Ranks to be gained by doing activities that grant regular xp, exploration etc. (They also mentioned in the road ahead an increase in PVP XP)
3. Phase 3 was implementing the champion system, you look to the constellations etc.
4. Gear that doesn't require a Veteran Rank, released in "Season"

Now after watching the justice system video I realized that the character was level "50" right now it is impossible to be that level as right when you go from 49-50 you hit VR1.

My question is..... at the end of this all when VR's are converted to champion points (Which Nick Konkle talked about a very recent interview) and the gear has been re itemized like they have been talking about.... Are we all going to be level 50 with x amount of champion points depending on what VR we achieved?

Overall the main thing I want to know is are they eventually taking Veteran Ranks out and putting us all back to level 50?

I would much prefer that we are all level 50 with x amount of champion points. Please let me know if you have interviews/solid evidence of them removing VR system completely. Thanks!

Not sure i have proof of it, but i watched a few podcast before quakecon and from what i understood the champion system should replace veteran one, hope they mean even the veteran rank.

they are NOT taking the veteran ranks out and you will earn champion points while you rank up.

It is still under speculation that all gear may be set to 50 though.

There is an extensive interview on esotr about this

Every veteran is level 50. Being Veteran Rank 10 doesn't mean you are level 60.

And you may not have noticed this, but once you hit level 50, if you don't read the e-mail the system sends to you, you stay at level 50. If you open the e-mail and read it, though, you'll see your rank instantly go to VR1.

To be honest, I don't care how many times they explain all this, I just know that it's going to be another setback which will cause 100's of QQ threads, because of players wanting the game their way.

    VR levels are going away.
    Level cap will be 50
Champion pts are account wide like Diablo 3 paragon levels used for passives.

VR content may stay but the levels will be removed

Won't be a setback as the champion points you get will be determined by VR you achieved.

Yes, but in every test of anything ever done by the devs they have been VR 12. In the updated build with justice system/champion system etc that was shown at Quakecon 2014 they were level 50. I'm pretty sure it isn't just because they didn't open the mail.

Ugh, I saw the eso quakecon notes and my heart sank a lil when I saw that apparently they think players like having to do all faction zones on the one toon. So not alt friendly. ;(((( Where do they get there info from ;(((( I have a feeling vr will just kinda kill the game for me.

i like the idea to be able to do it but i will probably do it on my alt also ;)
still is the better solution to gain vr rank now and skill/skill point.

P.s.: yes i hate grinding claglorn and will never do it

@Laura Have you got a link to that interview? It definitely hasn't been made very clear whether the end-result Champion system is an outright replacement to Veteran Ranks or being added as a parallel.

Personally I would like it as a parallel, that way there is both the horizontal progression of Champion Ratings and the vertical progression of Vet Ranks.

Its pure speculation at this point... paul Sage did say in an interview "we're going to rework the way veteran levels are obtained"

My understanding is that Veteran ranks are staying, all that is changing is the way you level up.
Instead of earning veteran points, you earn XP .
This change was to balance out the gameplay.
Right now you earn XP and VP slightly differently.

I'm sure most have recognised that you don't get VP for opening chests, or discovering new places etc whereas you do earn XP (sub level 50) for these challenges.

I've watched the quakecon video 2 times , and Paul states that he wants the experience of levelling to remain the same through the process, and the current veteran system is too much of a departure from that.

Also with regards to seeing a level 50 character in videos, I would put money on that just being a template , and I would suggest you ignore the level displayed.

Veteran Ranks are here to stay.

With regards to champion points, again this is my interpretation.
Post level 50, there are currently zero ways to develop your character. There are no more attribute points, no more skill points (quest and skyshards aside)
The champion system will award you with champion points that you can add to passive trees, plain and simple. Nothing more, nothing less.

It seems like a fairly robust system in that it can be expanded indefinitely as the game ages. I'm looking forward to it for two reasons.
    1. Some much needed post 50 character progression.
    2. Some seriously diverse builds (Provided they can address other build balance issues eg stamina.)

It's defending a very bad desig choice, nothing else.
Some people like it according to the forums, I have yet to meet and talk to a single of those people in game. Maybe I just accidentally joined a few very niche trading guilds full of people who like having alts and hate being forced to save other factions royalty, and the rest of the game is full of people who love that ***, what do I know.

faction loyalty isn't even a thing to some people. Its a game, they are all pixels that are programmed to try and kill you. The challenge is to kill them first. What flag they wave has no baring.

Having just listened to the whole section on the Veteran System update, I still think it's ambiguous. @ZOS_PaulSage only said they are not removing Veteran Ranks when Veteran Points are exchanged for XP (Phase 2). He still hasn't said what happens to Veteran Ranks at Phase 3, when the Champion System is introduced, aside from that Champion Points will be gained by XP.
He did make a mention to "everybody level 50 and above", and also mentioned [paraphrased:] "introducing new Season gear that is not restricted by level", which both to me suggest that Veteran Ranks (above 50) and Veteran Gear will still exist.

I just wish someone @ZOS would come and give clarification. Even if they come and say that they haven't answered the question yet because they haven't completely decided whether to do away with VRs completely.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌, @ZOS_GinaBruno‌, please, try and find out for us whether Champion Points are an outright replacement or a parallel system to Veteran Ranks.

I agree with this but right now I can't be convinced either way that they are staying or going. They don't mention VR's at all after phase 2.... the character that is level 50 must be a big deal.... every template they have ever made or shown has been max VR not once has it been 50. On top of that what is the point of VR if gear is no longer restricted by them? How do you earn champion points.... obviously you can't get one for every VR you achieve as that wouldn't make sense.... you wouldn't earn nearly enough.

On top of all that Nick Konkle said in an interview recently..... (will try to find link) It was on twitch and he was doing it from what looking like his home on Skype..... with another dev that is the one that developed all the abilities in the game.

Nick said something along the lines of "Right now, veteran ranks are part of the progression and we may increase the levels of those because right now it is part of our progression system." If you listen to the interview he makes it sound like it is part of the system now and that they may increase the levels but they won't when the champion system comes out.
