It's not a matter of skill, it's a matter of realism. People want the game to seem realistic. If I hit you in the back of your head, why would it not hurt you?

If I set you on fire, would that not hurt more?
Its a bloody MMO with spell casters and cat people, and you wanna argue realism?

Setting someone on fire does hurt in this game. You are confusing lore realism with physical realism. Cat people and magic are in the story of a fantasy game, however, shields blocking the back of your head when it is in front of you is just lazy mechanics.

Take a step back and..... Wait for it.... 3 In front of you.
This is not like wow where you run up start waking and, you have to move around, even if your a tank.

If you're arguing realism, you can't say one is more real then the other in a fantasy game. If I set you on fire, it hurts in this game, But you don't run screaming and panicking now do you? If you're light cloth armor, and I come along and hit you with a sword, You would be dead now would you? How realistic do you want to go here? Because at some point you have to realize this is a game with mechanics in place to make ti an enjoyable game.
How about this, if I shoot you with Snipe while your riding around on your horse, It should instantly kill you...Because ya know..Realism
MasterSpatula wrote: »No, it doesn't make sense. No, it's not realistic. No, changing it is not a good idea.
This would make tanking impossible. You can't tank if anyone who gets behind you can easily kill you, and 3 or more enemies is extremely common in dungeons and in world PVE. If three enemies want to flank you, they're going to flank you; you can't prevent that. If you can't block behind yourself in this game, you simply can't tank. It's that simple.

Yes I can, because the story has lore. The lore writes the rules and a shield blocking behind you is not in the story. It has no explanation. People want a fantasy, but they also want some realism. Why do we have gravity, or gold, or weapons, or shadows coming off the trees? Because it makes the world seem realistic, and things like magic are explained in the story. A shield is not explained because it is just lazy mechanics. I mean, why even have armor and shields in the first place? If you could just make anything realistic, perhaps we should just be naked and block things with our thoughts.

Again, if you're going to argue that you need some realism, I should be able to instantly kill any cloth user with most bladed weapons, and things like Fire.
Heavy Armor Users should probably die to Lightning Attacks instantly.
Hell most attacks in this game should flat out kill pretty much everyone instantly.

The player has a certain amount of resistance to pain and injury. I am not arguing about how unrealistic other things are. You seem to believe that since some aspects of the game are unrealistic due to limitations or comfort levels, that all unrealistic aspects of the game should just be ignored. If developers thought like this, games would never improve. Perhaps clothing should get set on fire. I never argued it shouldn't. From your argument though, what's the point in having armor in the first place?

that's not what i believe, I believe the exact opposite, you have to make some concessions when making a game, and demanding realism in a game is silly. Hence why I pointing out how silly your realism argument was.

I don't make demands. I point out flaws. Yes, in games there has to be some balance, but why should someone have the ability to block from all angles? Of course there's the lag factor, but other than that, it there any other reason it should be this way?

People have already said why, Because in this game if you couldn't block from all angles tanks would instantly die the second they charged into any fight.
In previous games they basically had other ways to mitigate damage, In this game there is only blocking... and blocking requires stamina..which gets eaten through incredibly quick while blocking.
I mean if you don't think it works that way, Go out in pvp right now, and don't block at all in PVP, and that's how it'd be in pretty much every fight after the change went in.
That's not even taking into account PVE.
