Maintenance Times!

I'm curious what the devs do between the time(15-50 minutes) our client updates to the time they open up the mega server? It's no big deal, I'm just curious to learn if they are running a few last tests or do they have to let the radiator cool down before they kick it and fire it back up?

We need a thread like this for little tidbit Q&A's that might get our curious little minds on this side of the construction zone...

Having managed servers for cloud application services, my guess is they probably do some basic tests to make sure nothing is obviously broken - basically looking for something that would be unexpected based on the testing they've already done on the public test servers and making sure all changes propagated properly. They'd also probably run a brief traffic simulation to make sure no network components were misbehaving before inviting the post-maintenance surge of logins and activity.

Hey @Troponin. We typically provide an update on the forums if maintenance is taking longer than expected. We know you're all eager to get back into the game as quickly as possible, so we'll always do our best to let you know as soon as we can if the server will be closed longer than our typical maintenance window. :)

In the meantime, check out these new patch notes!

Hey there, guys. We hope to reopen the North American megaserver within the hour. We'll be sure to update the forum banner, as well as social media, as soon as it's back online. Thanks for your patience!

Wow, thats very awesome of you to inform us all. Thank you so VERY much! bow.gif

Thanking them for doing their jobs.... badly.

Thats why they do such shoddy work.

Lets all hop down to the Fast Food place this guy works at and insult him for not making our burgers fast enough.....

You're rude, and know nothing of development. Have a dose of your own medicine friend.

I've said this once and I'll say it again, when you post "regular maintenance' the majority take that as 1-2 hours. We're sitting on more than 3 hours now. Please update us on how long it'll take, the team has got to have at least a decent guestimation lol guess+estimation. Thanks
@alreadybaked The way I look at it, regular Monday (NA)/Tuesday (EU) maintenances, when they roll out new patches, normally take ~4 hours, and Thursday (NA)/Friday (EU) maintenances when they do server reboots take ~2 hours.

So if it's Monday/Tuesday and taking more than 4 hours, or Thursday/Friday and taking more than 2 hours, then I start to wonder what's going on.

1-2 hours for regular server maintenance only and 4-6 for patches seem to be pretty much the norm these days.
