Why are heavy attacks so slow?

Currently I have max weapon dmg, and yet my heavy attack does about 5 less damage than my lava whip, and I am nowhere near max spell damage. But lava whip is instant....why in the hell would I even bother with heavy attacks when it has that long wind up, and does less damage than an instant ability? I wanna be a 2h bruiser but it's so freakin gimp compared to all these instant spells.

Maybe I'm being too simple, but it seems to me like making heavy attacks wind up more quickly, like in skyrim, and costing stamina, would be a HUGE step in buffing stamina builds.

and then you could have passives that make dodging cost magicka instead or something like that. Or make dodging after using a stamina ability cost less and regenerate stamina/second....stuff like that lol.

They mentioned during QuakeCon they'll be adding some abilities that would trade magicka for stamina. That would certainly help stamina users out. But I don't think that tying dodging to magicka would make sense.

Yeah it wouldn't, but I'm just brainstorming here. Heavy attacks still seem so useless though.

I was just testing it out, and my 2h light attacks were doing almost the same dps as just using heavy attacks.

    that doesn't make sense.

The only time I ever really use heavy attacks is when an enemy is disoriented, and I only do a partial "wind-up" in order to get the knockdown effect.

love the idea of buffing heavy attacks but making them cost stamina. say 100 stam per heavy or 200 would be fine. i think there should be a perk that makes all stamina related things like dodging running etc take up half the stamina but also uses same amount in magicka. (so the total number is the same but it draws from both pools evenely untill one runs out then 100% in the remaining one). it is completely viable, u can use this magicka to create fire from nothing but not use it to power your own body (electrical impulse through muscle) it can easily make sense

I like to start with a heavy attack from stealth at times (ka-POW!). But I haven't really paid attention to whether that's more efficient that some of my skill bar abilities. I just like doing it. :)

Light and especially heavy attacks in this game are meant to be weaved throughout a player's animations in order to see max dps. Try to wind up a heavy attack and use a weapon ability to cancel the animation. If you do it at the right time (max windup usually) and get a feel for it, both the weapon ability and attack will register their damage.

strange. sounds more like taking advantage of game mechanics, rather than doing what the devs had in mind. I'll try it out, even though theres no actual weapon ability worth using in 2h line other than crit charge and the finisher.

I still think heavy attacks would be better if they were faster and cost stamina like in Skyrim. Currently they just feel like they are only in the game to knock over disoriented targets in pve.

Sorry I didn't clarify; you can actually just use any ability, doesn't have to be a weapon one.
